I watched that TCU Game live and it was one of the most exciting college football games I've ever seen. Reminded me of the Jets/Miami, O'Brien/Marino 51-45 shootout at the Meadowlands in 1986. Not quite that thrilling, but an instant classic.

Its worth mentioning, Bryce Petty will be taking ALOT OF SNAPS with the twos and these next 4 weeks. I have said time and time again, the kid is too raw to be named the starter for week one, with that being said, the amount of reps he would have missed due to Geno and Fitz play time during the pre-season will absoultely be increased.
Its the name of the game, expect the unexpected. Athletes get opportunities of a life time and if they are made of any potential, they will seize the moment. Bryce, i have vouched for him before we drafted him is that good.
Though, IMHO, the Jets brass will do everything they can to bring in a proven veteran to back up Fitz for the opener in the coming weeks. It's the smart thing to do. Yet i wouldnt discount the fact if Bryce showcases some flashes in the increased amount of game time these next 4 weeks, he will be named the back up week one.

Dan - if they sign thigpen, there will be a mentor on the field playing aND a mentor on the sideline telling him why the guy on the field did what he did...I don't expect Petty to be #2 by week 1...the Jets have done everything in their power to find someone who can play. Pettus footwork and INTS in practice have been as bad as expected...I don't think he sees the field after the last preseason game until next preseason.

How has Joe and I been on the same page consistently lately...
I completely agree regarding the regular season, though i feel Petty will be thrown into the fire in preseason as the Jets brass will feel out who they can bring in at a good price or to see who is on the trading block/or to be released.
I want to see Petty play and see what kind of progress he makes from PS game 1 to 4.

Petty will develop.. He needs a year to sit... His football IQ is very high... once the light switch goes on he will be our starting QB... My gut says year 2 but I wouldn't be surprised if that light switch goes on this season...... regardless of how he has been in camp up till now means nothing.... Once the switch flips he is our guy... this kid will develop... Again I think he'll need a year to sit but man it would be nice if it all starts to click this year.
Somebody please tell me Petty is lighting it up in camp over the past two days and he will take the job from Fitz during the preseason. I don't care if you have to lie to me, I'll take it. I just don't want to see that old ass limp throwing Fitz behind center leading our team.
He's 32, not a 40. How old are Brady & Manning? 38 & 39. That gives us 6 years for 4 SB's!!

And Fitzpatrick's arm strength has always been ranked above average. But facts are something the GSFC doesn't want to deal with in this time of shiva for their guy

Petty isn't no spring chicken in terms of being a rookie who needs time to develop.
not to let facts get in the way of your "Fitzpatrick can lead us to 12-4" posts...but 3 years ago, he was ranked 31st in the NFL in terms of arm strength...only Matt Cassell was ranked worse...

He's actually one of the weakest armed QBs currently in the NFL...
If Fitzy gets hurt, we're screwed.

Petty should get a lot of reps and a lot of time in the preseason. Great for his development and should lead to a terrific competition next offseason between Ryan and Bryce for the starting QB position.
