Does he need to be elite franchise QB like Aaron Rodgers or do we need an elite game manager based on how our team is built? has there ever been a more elite game manager than Wilson? I think this team is built on defense and with an elite game manager would be an elite team...he is what he is...which is a super bowl winning QB that doesn't turn the ball over...I guess I don't see the problem or concern...
Totally agree, but is Russell Wilson a franchise QB, the kind you can pay Aaron Rodgers money because he alone is worth losing All-Pro players elsewhere (think D-line), which you have to do when you have that caliber QB who eats up that much cap space? What are we talking about? Who gives an f about the other positions if we don't have a QB? If you can get a franchise QB, you get one.
Thats the key right there, you said it better than me and with far fewer words, if you are paying Aaron Rodgers money for Wilson, and thats the kind of money he's looking for here, and you have to consider the cap ramifications, then you better be getting an Aaron Rodgers level QB, which is to say, one of the truly ELITE QB's in the sport.#1 The Hawks are posturing and are NOT going to trade Wilson.
#2 Wilson is not an elite QB, and I've been following him from Collegiate High in Richmond to NC State, then finally Wisconsin. He's under 5'10" in his bare feet with an average arm.
#3 His agent wants him to be the highest paid QB in the NFL, that won't happen with the Jets.
Go Jets...Cyborg

When you say someone doesn't understand the market because they disagree with you on someone's value, it is an example of why you have a reputation for being so insufferably arrogant and condescending.
Flacco's deal blew up the market, where non-elite QBs could get elite money. I don't like that trend, because I think it's not good for a team. When you give a QB $18+MM, he had better be elite. If he's not, then you are investing far too much in resources at the position.
How far do you go? How long before every starting QB's salary floor is $15MM? You don't have to be good, you just need to start.

I think the reason why Seattle refuses to pay him that kind of money, and deal with the subsequent cap ramifications, is because they DO NOT view him as that level QB, and if he insists on being paid at that level, IMO its not out of the question that they might deal him for the right package.
Maybe it would be okay for a casual NFL fan to have that point of view...people who just watch the super bowl.
Kaepernick makes 17 mill per, Dalton 19, Tannehill 19.25, and Cam Newton 21...none of which has been as good in a single year as wilson's rookie year...
26 year old, infinitely better, Super Bowl winning Wilson getting close to 25 isn't far fetched...it's what he'll get. No debate. It's what his market value is...he's better than Cam...everything says so, wins, accuracy, leadership, clean on and off the field, etc...
So again, I stand by the comment if you don't think his market value is close to 25, you dont know the market.
Bottom 15 QBs already make 19 mill per, so top QBs make more than bottom QBs. Call it arrogant to understand such things all you want...I consider it lacking football knowledge if you don't see the current sticker value of QBs today.
I don't know about the stats, you can twist stats to make any argument, I go by what I see and Wilson is not in Tom Brady's class. All things being equal, including age, I'd be surprised if 32 out of 32 GM's wouldn't take Brady over Wilson, especially now with John Idzik out of the GM chair. As long as you understand Tom Brady is just as "not elite" as Wilson...it took Brady 8 seasons before he was as statistically good as Wilson was last year.
Brady in 15 years as a QB only has 6 as good as Wilson was last year.
Yep...bum.
I'm proud, I guess to be one of the apparently many "sorry, delusional" Jet fans at this terrific forum who don't think trading away a starting DE, two. QBs, one experienced and one just drafted, and a first rounder in 2016 plus god knows what else for an undersized QB who 1) has benefitted from playing with the best defense and the best RB in the league and 2) was in position to win another SB in February until he "Geno'd it all.away by passing the ball directly to a Patriot DB.
But, of course, we are ALL wrong and only one omnipotent, all seeing poster is right

I think we can all agree that Seattle is a pretty smart organization. They're not getting rid of Wilson to play Tavaris Jackson anymore than Belichick was going to get rid of Brady to roll with Cassel. It's the dead time on the NFL schedule. Plenty of "rumors" like this will pop up.

That said, by no means am I suggesting Wilson is a bum and I'd love to have him if it didn't cripple our cap. I'm just not sure if he's worth cap crippling money. I have no qualms with paying that kind of money to an elite QB in his prime, for example Aaron Rodgers who is well worth losing a Mo Wilkerson, Sheldon Richardson and Darrelle Revis. If you can get that kind of QB, its worth losing three All-Pros elsewhere, that level of elite QB is that much of a difference maker. He basically makes you a legit SB contender every year. That doesn't mean that you win it every year, but even with an average team around him he makes you a legit contender.
Is Wilson that level QB?
Thats all I'm asking, and I'm not even saying that he isn't, HE MIGHT BE, I'm just not sure because he's not what you traditionally think of as a franchise QB, but you can't argue with the results and he does have a unique skill set that probably does make him better than all of the QB's you mentioned in that prior post (Kappy, Tannehill, Newton, Dalton), but those guys are not elite QB's either in my view.
I think its fair to say Wilson is right there with Ben Rothelisberger, Tony Romo and Phillip Rivers in the tier right below the elite. I'm just not sure if he's in that small group of elites at the very top (Rodgers, Brady, Peyton, Brees) in their primes, and thats the kind of money he is looking for.
