Well, it's not a capital offense, but luckily society does not agree with you and a solitary punch IS a felony, which means it is not right and NOT ok.

A single punch in a mutual confrontation is seldom a felony, it's generally simple battery. Striking a 71 YO man from behind is though, it's battery on the elderly.

So what does Geno have to do this year to have you guys back on his side?

Besides win a SB, absolutely nothing!!! And I was one of the biggest Geno supporters on this board. Sg3 and I went at it like cats and dogs over this issue.

Um, win?

I love these posts that say "he could go 15-1 and people would complain about the 1", never realizing they're being more ignorant/annoying than the posters they're talking about.

Winning heals all wounds. If he comes out and shows us what his supporters think he can, there won't be enough room on the bandwagon.

Unfortunately, I don't think I'll ever get the chance to prove I'm right . . .

Regardless what kind of reception Smith receives in the locker room, the fans are going to be a real problem for him. He's reached the "Sanchez" point of no return.

The only thing he can do to get the fans back is the next time he is on the field he has to have a monster game. Not just OK. it's got to be special.

A high % of the fans right now have moved on from him. If he comes out and shows any signs of rust, they are going to murder him. I don't think he has the maturity to deal with it.

In all honesty, IMO the best thing that could happen for Geno Smith right now is to wind up on another team. I also think it's the best thing for the team, and the fan base.

The problem is, this fan base is way too black and white. I don't think there's anyone here claiming to love the guy or say he doesn't have faults. On the contrary, there's plenty of people carrying torches and pitchforks for the guy, and he has no chance at all with them. Macc and Bowles obviously haven't thrown in the towel like them. What are they seeing?

But as you say, the people who say "he sucks and will never amount to anything" sure will change their tune if he turns it around. I'm sure we'll hear all kinds of excuses if that were to happen.

those who are done with him or those who still support him??

I'm not saying either way what will happen with Geno Smith this year. I'm not pretending to know what will happen.

I'll leave that to all of those who are convinced that he has no chance of getting better. They seem to know, and would rather bash the guy than root for him because he has a NYJ jersey on.

To each his own, I guess.

One of the things they were seeing when Smith was anointed opening day starter by Gailey was the fact that Fitz's health for opening day was heavily in question. They wanted to prep a QB as the starter early on, and Fitz was a question mark.

Early in the HC search the Jets were very infatuated with Quinn. They got cold feet when he was going to the Super Bowl, and didn't want to lose both Quinn , and Bowles.

If Quinn had gotten the job the rumors were heavy that he was going to dump Smith. Not putting to much stock in the fact that just because Smith is still on the team means that Bowles and Gailey are enamored with him.

Aren't many other viable options out there.

I don't think most fans are carrying any pitchforks, and torches for Smith, I think most were willing to let him have a fair competition for his job.

This latest, of many incidents , have just badly soured them on him. As both a player, on the field, based on what they have witnessed for the last two years, and as a person, and leader, after numerous arrogant, and immature acts.

i'm not claiming to know if smith will or will not get his spit together but i'm no longer interested in finding out.. i've reached my breaking point with the guy as a QB & the way he carries himself as a man.. is that against the rules??

you on the other hand are sitting firmly on the fence in this debate.. you very carefully pick & chose what to defend as far as his game & character reminding all how much crow we will be force fed if smith ends up succeeding as a NFL QB.. insinuating people are essentially "mouth breathers" if they don't cry for poor geno getting punched in the mouth.. hell, i've heard more crying for poor geno here than from his teammates, peers, ex players, coaches & execs combined!!

but if he remains a flop you're in position to say "hey don't look at me?? i never said the guy would be any good & i never said i liked the way he carries himself.."

but smith's detractors are the ones letting our "egos" get in they way of seeing things clearly??

Consider me a fence-sitter then. I'd like to think that the professionals that we now have running the organization had seen enough to have given Smith the starting job. I also think that they would have cut bait with him if he didn't perform against real opposition. Unfortunately they didn't have that ability because of the broken jaw. I am quite willing to move on as many others are here, but I want to see if the change to Gailey's scheme is as beneficial to Smith as it has been for our other QBs.

fortunately bolwes has enough wisdom to recognize a couple of 6th grader's could have handled things better then the starting QB getting dropped by a kid just trying to stay in the league..

translation; smith's issues coming out of college was not his ability but his character/immaturity..
