Regardless of how you feel about him as a receiver, its clear the coaching staff has little use for him in the passing game and he's being used primarily as a returner. The numbers are crystal clear; yesterday he ran a grand total of ONE PLAY with the offense. Conversely Marshall ran 60, Decker 55, Owusu 40 and Enunwa 27.
You don't have to be Bill Walsh to see there is no roll for Kerley in this offense, therefore his only real value is as a returner, and to be perfectly honest, he's a subpar return man at best. IMO we'd be much better off with Walter Powell as the return man and the sixth WR on the depth chart. You can argue that Kerley is a better receiver, but I think most of us would agree that Powell looks like the more dynamic return man.
So if yesterday is indicative of Kerley's place in the WR pecking order, I would try to trade him for whatever we can get, even if its only a 7, and promote Walter Powell from the PS to be the primary return man.
