Jets’ Defense Cannot Make Up For Lack Of Elite Quarterback

Maine jet can't wait for the team to collapse. do you really think you need to tell fans of 30+ years anything about the team they don't know for themselves.

Well, personally I thought the asking price to move up and grab Marcus Mariota was worth it. I also liked them taking Bryce Petty. I would advocate taking another QB in next years draft. In fact, I wouldn't stop until someone stands up and shows they can lead this team. The jets QB situation right now is a mess!

what was the asking price to move up to #1 ? i wasn't aware that tennessee announced what they would take?

as to the rest, you're basically saying nothing. you seem to be complaining for the sake of complaining.

btw - that mess of a QB situation has the team 3-1 and has petty (who you like). so again, you offer nothing

And you do?

actually the same plan as you. groom petty and probably look for another QB next year

but i don't start threads almost weekly talking about the jets not having a franchise QB, nor bitch and complain at our QB at almost every opportunity.

i recognize what we have - a hold-the-fort veteran and a raw rookie.

The Qb debate is getting tired. We all know Fitz isn't elite, so stop beating a dead horse. Unless you have a immediate solution, it's really a boring topic, you're not breaking any news. We play the season with what we have, and take action in the offseason. That's all there is to it

Thank you, thank you, thank you, smarrrrrrt post!

I guess I'm confused by this thread. I assume you're saying that the only way the Jets will win is with an elite QB. Ok... Which elite QB do you suggest we go and get? I don't remember there being too many elite QBs available in FA that we could afford.

so what is your solution? should we just go to the franchise QB store and buy one with woody's money???

was there a franchise QB out there this past off-season that we should have gotten? who in the draft should we have taken over williams so that we have our franchise QB? do you think bowles and macc don't know that it's easier to win with a franchise QB?

it's easy to bitch about not having a franchise QB. how about offering a solution?

The franchise QB store. Brilliant. :hand-clapping-smile

Why offer solutions? It's so much easier to play the armchair GM game in showing how much smarter we are than the people running the Jets.

MJ doesn't enjoy victories unless he feels they are part of a bigger picture. In his opinion having an elite QB is the lone requirement for believing the team has a future, and therefore has only enjoyed minimal Jet games over the past few decades, and has no idea when he might start enjoying them again.

Personally, while I'd like an elite QB as much as the next guy, I'm MUCH more interested in our CS/FO. That's the one thing successful teams have that supercedes the QB position, and also something we can assess along the way as we continue our search for the Holy Grail of QB greatness.

While it's WAY too early to make any diefinitive conclusions, I think we're all pretty happy with what we've seen thus far from Bowles/Macc. Whether we go 7-9 or 10-6 is irrelevant -- just keep putting a quality product on the field and show improvement along the way and I'll feel REAL good about our future, short AND long-term . . .

We looked like a Rex Ryan penalty filled team and thats what today showed.

I'm not sure the Jets' penalties were the same type of flags there were under Rex. I didn't see a bunch of personal fouls or false starts or 12 men/illegal substitution penalties. There weren't the dumb penalties, the mental mistakes, so often seen with a Rex team.

I'd just like to add that SB's have been won by teams with non-elite QB's. Remember Trent Dilfer? I like to think the Jets may be able to get it done with a merely serviceable QB, if all the other parts are there, like a great defense and a solid running game. Perhaps the Jets can get it done with somebody like, let's see, Fitzpatrick!

It so nice to see a defense actually get off the field on 3rd down. Rex was awful at that.

Was Troy Aikman an "Elite" QB before he won 3 SBs in 4 years?
Last thing I remember about him coming out is his UCLA QB skills couldn't beat Rodney Pete's at USC - TWICE - and where exactly is Rodney Pete in the pantheon of NFL gawds?
Aikman was Neil O'Donnell with a better team around him, is all.

People are STILL arguing over whether or not Favre was an "Elite" QB - (stupid people only).

Were Brad Johnson, Trent Dilfer, Doug Williams, Mark Rypien, Don Strock, Bob Griese, Earl Morrall, or a certain Jets QB that had a career pass completion percentage average of 50.1%, threw 173 TDs to his 220 INTs, & finished his career with a (62-63-4) W/L record, "Elite QBs"?
Shit no, NONE of those guys were "Elite" QBs - but they all won a Super Bowl ring.

But that's not good enough. This league is about winning the SB, it isn't about having a winning record or merely making the playoffs. It's about hoisting the Lombardi trophy. That's the goal. Everything else is called failure.

So why do you even follow the team? Seems to me you should follow the off season and see if the team gets an elite QB. Then either watch them or not based on that acquisition. Otherwise, you will just simply never be content. You have complete control over your happiness. The Jets are not likely to win the SB this year, why would continue to subject yourself to such consistent "failure."

A very wise football man once said;

Gentlemen, we will chase perfection, and we will chase it relentlessly, knowing all the while we can never attain it. But along the way, we shall catch excellence.

What Vince Lombardi was trying to tell his players, was that you may not always get what you want, but if you try, try, try, you just might get what you need.

A (4-12) team cannot realistically expect to go (19-0) the following year, but if they work sufficiently hard and everyone does their job to the best of their ability, they will do better this year than they did the year before.
Wash, rinse, repeat and sooner than you realize - you ARE that team closing in on perfection.

Mainejet, you CANNOT let the perfect be the enemy of the extraordinary, and by any measure what the Jets are doing with the people they have, in the 1st year of a new administration, is every bit as admirable as what they did in the 1st couple of seasons under Rex Ryan.
In fact, this is a BETTER team than those 2009-2010 squads, & if only you'd take a moment to see it through the haze coming off that bitchpipe you've been puffing on lately, you might actually recognize that truth.
