And therefore, we're NOT strong enough to even belong to the top ten. We have almost NO depth on offense, our QB sucks, and our ST is suspect. We are NOT a top ten team and that's just the way it is.
What's nice about this season, is that we are really not that far off competing for a SB. But although there are not many players we need, we may NEVER find them.
This is team is about 3 or 4 players away. But the biggest player that's need is a FRANCHISE QB. Who knows if we'll ever find that? We haven't had one for what now? Not since Kenny O'Brien?
That often takes teams 20 years or more to find that guy. We have hope for Bryce Petty, but who knows what he'll ever become.
An objective ranking of this team is somewhere in the high teens. I would put them at about 19 and I think that is fair.
It shows a MASSIVE amount of improvement since last season, but still a few players away.
Not sure I agree that the Jets have no depth.
Not going to discuss it here(been discussed a 1,000 times) But we disagree that Ftz sucks. Don't think he's a "carry the team on his back" kind of QB, but I think he nicely fits the model for a "ground and pound team" which is what the Jets are.
OL-Jets just pulled a guy off the bench in Winters, who handled an elite NT is Suh rather well. Don't know what will happen going forward, but it looked good Sunday.
They are also carrying a guy on the roster named Qvale, who, as Ham has pointed out, the Jets have gone to great lengths to protect him from waivers. He's getting some snaps as a blocking TE. Have to assume they are very high on him. They drafted Jarvis Harrison, who some people put a 2nd round grade on. Guys a monster. Reason he was still there was the rap on him is he doesn't love football. Wants to play basketball. Lets see what the CS can do with him. He surely has the natural tools.
WR- Marshall and Decker are as good a tandem as you could ask for. Kerley isn't getting any reps, but he is certainly a reliable slot guy, with good hands. The reason he isn't getting any reps is because the CS seems to think they have more talented depth. Smith, a very talented kid who was drafted early in the 2nd round . Owusu, tall kid, big speed, if he can stay on the field can be a major contributor. Enuwu-Another big guy. I haven't been to impressed, but somebody on the CS seems to be in love with him.
RB- Again Ivory and Powell compliment one another very well. Stacy is a stop gap until Ridley returns to practice week 6, and to games week 8. If Ridley can return to what he was with the Pats, they are going have a powerful smashmouth running game. Don't see any reason why he can't, he's only 27 I think
TE's- So far the weakest unit on the team
That looks like pretty good depth to me. Back up's on any team are back ups for a reason. They all have some question marks which keeps them on the bench. That's true on ALL teams not just the Jets.
All in all looks like a pretty good group to me
