Lee lowest graded rookie linebacker (according to PFF)

Too early to write Lee off. I like his speed and athleticism. Lets see how he progresses next season.

I don't know how anyone can assume to know what a player's potential is based on his rookie season alone.

He gets at least next season to prove himself.

I agree, you Draft a small LB based solely on speed knowing his speed wont be there after bulking up 40 lbs needed to go against big fast NFL O Linemen. Stupidity dart board Drafting & reminds me of another 1st rd Linebacker/DE Vernon Gholston during Mangini days that never made it.

well it seems he can not cover either because he got beat like a drum bt most of the TE he faces this year and wasn't that one of the reasons we needs speed?

I'm not ready to write him off, either.

That said, I think he would be more successful in a 4-man front, as I do much of the current front seven personnel. Some wanted to make the shift when the team was more 3-4 based in personnel, but right now, it seems like it's a mismatch.

Then again, I'd also deal Richardson this offseason, so I might hold off on how that plays out before making a true shift to the 4-3.

This post along with many others gives off this accusation that I will somehow get into the Jets headquarters and be sure that Darron Lee gets walked right out the door. I have no say in this. This was the Jets decision and they'll have to live with it.

All I am reporting is that he's actually been even worse than I thought he would be. IMO, this was a totally wreckless pick that as an end result put the team seriously behind the 8 ball. The Jets NEEDED a guy that would make immediate contributions from the first day he spent on the field. They also had a tremendous need for an OL. So wouldn't it have made a LOT more sense to draft an OL. The safest pick known to the draft?

For me, the Darron Lee pick has PANIC written all over it. Mac completely fucked up the draft and likely the team for some time as a result of this clusterfuck.

Darron Lee could just as easily progress next season into a better, more polished NFL player as ending up a bust. Plenty of first year players struggle to adjust to the game in their rookie seasons. That's not unusual.

I'm giving him more time.

Agree, what if he's not Roy, he's a failure?

Add him to the long list of Jet defenders who are having terrible years in 2016. This has been an epic collapse by a defense that was good enough last year to be top 10 in the league, and this year garbage. No surprise that a rookie would be caught in the same toilet bowl whirlpool.
When your offense sucks, it drags down your defence too. The longer the d is on the field, the worse they get.

lets be honest, the jets drafted the kid because he was supposed to be an "x factor" in bowles' scheme.. he wasn't as a rookie..

very big year for lee in '17.. with bowles likely not being here in '18, lee can become an undersized afterthought in someone else's defense..

But I heard he was named to the all NFL rookie team.
This does not compute.

BTW- Butterscotch - a day without insulting the academics and students of THE Ohio State University is like a day without sunshine.

MaineJet didn't start a thread about Lee making the all-rookie team.

Odd...

I know he didn't. That's why I started my post with "But".
He cited how lowly rated Lee was. And Lee's making the all-rookie team raised questions to me about who votes/ scores those things. Don't they look at the numbers MJ cited or was the competition that bad?

wait, winning a popularity contest isn't a true barometer for a players actual performance??

If playing in 13 games, starting in 9, finishing with 73 total tackles and being named to Gil Brandt's All Rookie Team constitutes sucking, then I guess we should just move on.

I mean after all, who knows better than Jets fans.

Or Gary Kipfmiller.
(If you have to look him up, I win.:global (49): )

well played Mr. 62, well played

problem with looking him up is all I could find is that he was drafted by the Jets in '72 (16th round), passed away in '87 and made the Nebraska wresting hall of fame posthumously. Now I won't forget him.

Fud, what makes him memorable to me is that when he was drafted, his weight was announced at 360 pounds! That makes him the heaviest player ever drafted by the Jets.
