Hello everyone! It has been a long, long time. I took a rather protracted hiatus from posting as my job became increasingly more demanding. But I have a few minutes and wanted to join the conversations. I hope everyone on the Board is doing great. Great to see so many familiar names still active.

Great discussion around Watson and Cousins. Watson is really polarizing prospect. Personally, I think the kid wins. The Jets need someone that knows how to win at the QB position. The league is littered with players that have all the physical tools, but can't play the game and don't know how to win. I like him and would be excited if he was the Jets pick. There are plenty of other players I like at 6 as well. But at the QB position - he has by far the best track record. Trubisky, Kizer, etc...all could be good pros, but they haven't won anything. I would like a QB that knows how to win against top notch competition. Alabama allegedly had one of the best college defenses in recent memory, and that may be true. But Watson found a way to beat them.

On Cousins - Cousins fits a West Coast scheme and has been very productive. He has an edge to him and I like him as well. He's a good NFL QB and at times an excellent one. He would certainly be a good starter for a number of years. I don't know if he is a guy that can lead you to the promised land, but he certainly has talent and upside. Is he an upgrade over what we have? Yes, a major one. If the Skins release him, the Jets should definitely make a run at him.

I am not a fan of most of the other QBs that are out there. Glenn - eh. He's an 8 win guy. Taylor is interesting because he is mobile and has a good arm and doesn't turn the ball over. Maybe a 9 win guy. Romo, great career, but he's not coming here. Alex Smith is a solid QB but he can never seem to get over the hump. He can run a West Coast offense for sure. He'd be solid player for a few years until the Jets get their starter for the next ten years.

Looking at the current roster - Hackenberg is a complete unknown. What I know of him I like - great intangibles, work ethic, and football smart - has excellent physical skills. Great arm, tough, can make all the NFL throws. But he had a rough couple of years at Penn State and probably did not fully recover. He needs work. I think he definitely has starting potential if the Jets can be patient with him. I'd be very curious to see what kind of jump he makes from last year to this year...he could be a diamond in the rough. But unless they are sure he is going to turn the corner and develop, they need to find another player at that position. If he wins the job, great. He will deserve it.

Petty - I've always liked Petty as a potential backup. Similar to Hackenberg. Good physical tools, great intangibles. He's not as familiar with a pro system, so he struggles there. Worth keeping on the roster.

In short, if the Jets are serious about Watson and he is there when they pick, and they take him, I am good with it.

how many consecutive high draft picks do you let a GM use on QBs before you decide enough is enough??

if this report is true, what the hell happened to the "red shirt" season with hackenberg??

apparently nothing worth while..

I'm caught between lets see what Hack and Petty got and keep swinging until you hit a Home RUn... I don't care about taking a QB high again but if we do you better make sure one of these 3 guys is gonna knock it out of the park

This Probably needs its own thread at this point and I
don't know if we have one on our QB options

Now I reading possibly Alex Smith
Kirk Cousins may come available ???
highly unlikely but who knows at this point
If any of this happens the Jets must go all in.
Choices in this order
1- Alex Smith
2- Kirk Cousins
3- Tyrod Taylor
4-Deshaun Watson
5-Mitch Trubisky
6- Tony Romo
6-Jay Cutler
7-Mike Glennon
8-Nick Foles
9-Josh McCown
10-Brian Hoyer
11-Colin Kaepernick
12-Matt Barkley
13-Our Roster as is : Ofcourse that's #13

miss any?
I would do Alex Smith to 5 or 6 on this list

If the Redskins don't want him then why would the Jets? If he is a franchise QB then he won't be let go. Cousins is better than what the Jets have, but he seems really unstable and with those weapons that offense never took off consistently.
The redskins want him, I haven't heard of anyone saying they will let him go. The question is franchise him or sign long term. What other qb do they have?

I've seen predictions expecting Cousins to get Andrew luck money.

I don't understand why many of you are criticizing this report.

The Jets SHOULD be doing extensive work on Deshaun Watson... and Mitch Trubisky... and DeShone Kizer... and every other QB that will be in the 2017 draft. It's called due diligence, and if they weren't doing it then the FO wouldn't be doing it's job.

I think because this is a complete rebuild, then QBs like Romo, Cutler and anyone on the list except Watson and Trubisky won't be considered. Go ahead and kill me for this, but I also think that Geno Smith will be given a one year show me deal. There is no risk for Jets other than the fanbase blowing up MetLife. His recent tweet as quoted by Cimini, could be that he is returning to Jets:

Romo, Cutler, Watson & Trubisky are all the wrong options...

As for Smith, the current regime likes him so a possible return is not out the question but the main issue here is {Is the current future on the team?} If not, then drafting someone in the first three rounds is a NEED... Watson, Trubisky have their faults like most of these QB prospects in this draft but there are some non-media hyped QB prospects that may offer better developmental options on day 2 like Nathan Peterman, Davis Webb and/or Chad Kelly...

Supposedly we are targeting either Tyrod Taylor or Mike Glennon but I don't put too much into that as like Fitzpatrick they will be bridge type stop gap options until we develop one of our own...

i think smith has shown this organization & it's fan base quite enough since his antics on his the draft draft day, thanks so much..

maybe i'm the crazy one.. but why not (if they are ready) use this full bore rebuilding season to see what the kids this regime actually drafted have?? as opposed to the guy they did everything possible to keep on the bench last season..

what the hell are either you or i missing??

not missing anything but a team that is in the rebuilding mode, why should or would any free agent worth a damn come here... with that being said, Geno Smith is an affordable option for one year to further allow either Petty or Hack to continue development... If they walk away from Geno, then they draft another prospect who like the other two won't be ready in this regime's eyes to be the day one starter...

so there are options but which way this regime may go is a mystery...

i believe a better question is why would the jets want to pay any FA QB worth a damn durning a fire sale??

I truly believe that he is an option on a one-year show me deal. He'll be cheap and will provide a bridge to either Petty or Hack. Is he going to give you less than say a Brian Hoyer? I don't think so, so why not? The only downside I see is the fan-base's reaction, but in a complete rebuild who cares. If Hack or Petty beats him out all the better, at least we have a backup option who has started over two years' worth of games. Again, its a rebuild.

If we keep Geno, and he beats out Petty and Hackenberg, then we've got bigger problems than we know. I'm not expecting anything big from the Jets next season other than finding out who belongs. This should be an audition year, even though Woody Johnson wouldn't want to call it that because of $$$.

As much as we love the FA period, I really hope Macc shows restraint in not overpaying for star players. That is not what this team needs right now.

Draft, draft, and more draft.

I agree with that, but I still think we need an experienced guy in case neither guy is ready. From what I have seen, neither is ready.

We have 3 QBs that we still are not sure what we have; why draft another? The theory is nice to keep trying until you land one but that really is a pipe dream as they will never get any playing time. Major problem this past year is nobody got much play time except for Fitz. Even though the injuries had a lot to do with this, IMO , Gailey was the reason for sticking with Fitz. This is the perfect scenario to see if any of the three are "that guy". Make sure we are in position next year to get to the top of the draft in 2018 in case none of these guys is "that guy". Build the OL and roll everything for a top pick then.
So far I am really liking Jake Browning (but hoping we never need to consider him) and he can even throw a wet football! I hope Petty has been practicing under the sprinkler this off season,

That's the problem in a nutshell, and I'm in complete agreement about building the foundation first. Draft a C, LT, RB and TE to give a young QB a group to develop with.

Ideally I would prefer to trade back to the #12 or #13 and pick up a lineman and a bargaining chip for next year.
