Maccagnan wants to trade back and acquire more draft picks

Is it as obvious to everyone else as it is to me that the Jets will never get this thing turned around simply by using the draft? To me, this team has so many areas of deficiency that just relying on our compliment of picks every year won't cut it? Mac simply isn't the kind of guy that can get 4 to 5 good players for the next 4 years, is he? I've seen nothing to indicate that he's that kind of guy? Because yielding 3 to 5 good players every year for the 4 seasons is imo what it's going to take.

This thing is getting completely blown up and they are over from scratch. This team will not be fun to watch for the foreseeable future.

The foundation of the team needs to be built from the draft and finished through FA. We have a good young core of players, but need more from this draft. If the team makes strides in 2017 with the youth on the roster, you spend next year in FA and draft from a stronger QB class next year.

I believe it can be done. But patience is a must.

So honestly you think that Mike MacCagnan is the guy for that job? You think he's the guy that can draft a lot of good players for the foreseeable future? Then, he'll mix in the right amount of free agents at the right spots to build the Jets into a contender> A guy that can build a roster that has a constant youth movement of young talented players that steal playing time away from veterans and battle veterans for starting nods in training Camp?

Because that's the guy that I am hoping the Jets have in MM? I will honestly tell you I have serious reservations as to whether he is that guy? I look at what he's done and see we are pretty much right back where we started in 2014 and I wonder if he's the right guy for the job?

You are much more optimistic about these things than I am. One thing I do know is that Mac does not have any more "do over's" in the cards. Woody is allowing him to blow up the roster and start from scratch two seasons after Mac ran a "competitive rebuild", which ultimately blew up in his face. This time around he will be expected to succeed in the way of drafting and forever changing the climate with the Jets.

I really do wonder if he's that guy?

What we don't know, but I suspect that Woody demanded the BS 'competitive rebuild' for marketing purposes. If he did, then the last two years cannot be totally on MM. Again I don't know for sure (nor does anyone on this forum), but I believe that things would have been done much differently from a roster-building and player development perspective. I'm hoping that Woody's stint in London keeps his hands out of the cookie jar and lets the football guys run the show. That may be wishful thinking, but I'm hoping.

it is actually the other way around...

there are teams always clamoring to move up BUT what they are offering isn't always worth the move...

Well, why is that the Patsies can always trade down whenever they want to and get great picks in return? If Mac is such a great GM then why hasn't he been able to execute any trade downs?

You're making a ton of assumptions in this statement. We don't know thought process or mentality,or what orders complicate picks.

you answered your own question... the Patriots trade down to stock pile with teams willing to pay the bill to move up... The last two years MM wasn't in the right position to make moves and get the value of said picks he was trying to trade down from...

Being 6th overall just outside the Top 5 in every round allows us to finagle with teams interested said prospect that falls out of that top per round and teams will bid against themselves to make that move which will lead to us reaping the reward of stock piling... Unlike the first two years of this regime, they were in the process of getting younger while trying to stay competitive.. Since last year was a complete failure, time to overhaul from the ground up and that means we need more picks and trading these picks this year is the optimal thing to do...

I cared. I'm sure Rex cared . Pretty sure it bugged the shit outta Woody.

Just the fact that you were pointing out that in 2015 the Jets went 10-6 and that was a good year.
i didn't see at as good. And the coach you just fired kept you from reaching the playoffs .

That's all it had to do with my comment
you guys can be happy with the state of the team
I'm not

This again? Seriously? We're going to rehash how 8-8 is better than 10-6 because Rex beat the Jets twice?

So were the Jets as good as the Pats in 2015 because they split?

Well you brought up how 2015 was a good year , guess my opinion doesn't count , whatever .
Nope , not getting into it.
ill take it at face value : 2015 was a great year and the rebuild is the way to go

I didn't say great year. I said good. And 10-6 usually gets you in.

I guess record means nothing. It's all about whether you beat a former coach or not.

I will never understand that mentality.

You don't half to that's my feeling
guess it's an old world Italian thing in my blood
Maybe this will help you out

vendettist, noun. C19: from Italian, from Latin vindicta, from vindic?re to avenge; see vindicate. ... 1855, from Italian vendetta "a feud, blood feud," from Latin vindicta "revenge" (see vindictive).

I have to agree with this..... Mac had just spent 50 million on expensive free agents, Mac drafted a great player with the 6th overall and Rex was essentially forced to take another coaches team and hit the ground running. The QB situation was messy and the defense wasn't quite jiving with Rex's philosophies. The Jets were supposed to be the better team and they weren't. What we found out in 2015 is that the Jets hadn't gotten any better by hiring Todd Bowles. Now? I think it's pretty obvious that Toilet is a terrible HC. There were many in Jet land comparing Toilet to Rich Kotite. That is NEVER a good sign.

With that said, and after getting over my anger, I am happy about Toilet getting another season. The guy is our HC and I want to see this thing through? He's going to get one more season to improve the team. While he has shown nothing to indicate Toilet is a coach on the rise, I do have hope...........

I don't know whether Maccagnan is the guy or not. But I don't advocate switching out GM's and coaches every two years because it doesn't start off well. Macc went for it in FA and tried the competitive rebuild. I don't fault him for that. A lot of fans and media supported it then, but now hindsight is 20/20.

I'm giving him more time to show if he can build this through the draft. He was a scout with the Texans. I think he'll be fine.

Agree, having a1 year attention span and clearing house every other year is the best way to become the Browns.

I absolutely agree. Impatience can be the kiss of death for a franchise.
