I don't think anyone's saying Bowles did a good job overall last season. His mistakes have been posted here in detail. I won't rehash them for the sake of avoiding redundancy. He's a brand new coach, and I believe he should get some time to grow into the position. On a side note, I've personally seen employees start out rough and eventually become solid employees. Not everyone shines from the get-go.
I'm of the opinion that you don't kick a guy to the curb after one bad year. The Jets went 10-6 in 2015, and few people (if any) were calling for his head then. Hiring and firing new GM's and HC's on 2-3 year cycles is what teams with no patience do. Now there may be exceptional cases where a guy has to go after a year or two, like Rich Kotite, who was clearly an incompetent HC. But if this team wants to build a successful run, it has to get a better idea about Bowles and Macc before they pull the ripcord on them.
actually, i believe there were plenty of red flags in year one as well.. yes, 10-6 is nice on paper & i
absolutely enjoyed the hell out of the '15 season.. but we ended up having an extremely favorable schedule/mild weather.. i can make a strong case without the chronically flat first halves of games, we could have challenged NE for the division & a bye week.. that matched with career years from, fitzpatrick, decker, ivory & marshall was a hell of a deodorant for bowles' shortcomings in his rookie season.. & yes it was his "rookie season.." but losing to buffalo on national TV with bowles sticking to his
"no game is more important than any other" mantra was/is still maddening to me!! what a crock of shit to sell your team on!! all the way down to it's literally mathematically incorrect..
then when he had the chance to get us in the playoffs week '17 in buffalo, what happened?? yet another flat as a pancake performance in the first half..
so no.. this is not
just about year two..
as far as firing head coaches too soon, i stand by my post to sack in another thread.. i think it applies to our general managers as well..
since 1990:
bruce coslet 1990-1993 bad head coach, fired..
pete carroll 1994 fired an eventual SB winner..
rich kotite 1995-1996 speaks for itself..
bill parcells 1997-1999 resigned..
bill belichick* 1999 speaks for itself..
al groh 2000 quit..
herm edwards 2001-2005 JAG, essentially traded to KC for a 4th rounder..
eric mangini 2006-2008 JAG, fired..
rex ryan 2009-20014 amazing start, horrible end.. fired..
todd bowles 2015- awful head coach..
never understood why the perception is the jets are constantly firing head coaches..
