So far he has led a bunch of millenial retards. He is dominating in a spread offense. Also his accuracy comes a lot from the system he plays in with short quick throws against some of the worst defenses from the Big 12 in college. He holds onto the ball which is why he has to escape many times. The NFL will figure him out real quick. Either you are going to be right or I am.

Lol, the scouts and opposing coaches talk about his great release and how quickly he gets the ball out which makes him so tough to defense, and you claim that "he holds onto the ball" as the reason he has to escape many times. You are just reinforcing the sense that you have not actually seen him play because everything you are writing is completely inaccurate as far as his play is concerned. His accuracy comes from "short quick throws?" He is the most accurate deep passer I have ever seen at any level, and I have heard many analysts say exactly the same thing. Here, take a look at some of his "short quick throws," and how he literally puts them into his receivers' hands:

Did he hold the ball too long here, or did he make magic? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mnbM9o4iaU

i admittedly watched very little of mayfield during the year. and i only caught the tail end of the 4th Q and OT last night. so i recognize this is a tiny, tiny sample size. but from what i saw (against elite talent and not the crap Big 12 defenses he usually feasts on), i was unimpressed. he did complete one nice downfield pass after scrambling around, but otherwise it was all short passes. and it seemed like in OT, they took the ball out of his hands and relied on the running game. now that's play calling and not on the QB, but why wouldn't you let your star QB throw the ball in OT.

i'm always hesitant of spread QBs coming from college, especially when they play in a conference not known for playing any defense. he may put up video game numbers against this competition, but against NFL defenders he's not gonna always be able to scramble and buy time.

personally i think the 6th pick is way too high for him

He has the best OL in college. Probably best TE. Very good WR's and RB's. He won't have that offense in the NFL. He is a product of the system and the skill players around him. He wouldn't come close to those numbers playing at any other school. He doesn't play under center at all. He is probably under 6 feet tall. He is a complete douche on and off the field. He doesn't make many tight window throws. I even saw him have all day and held the ball too long a couple times vs Georgia. In the NFL, thats a sack or a pick.

To me all these are major red flags.

Nobody seems to mention the throat slash either. Baker Manziel cant help himself. Its not trash talking. He has zero class and got what he deserved last night. Thats why this happened.

So the good news is that one of the 'good' QBs will fall to us. The bad news is it is because they ain't as good as we thought........

You're beginning to get the picture now. We'd be just as well off picking in round 2 or 3. P.S. Don't tell Tebow I said this but he's right about Mayfield. Against a really good defense he struggles and does things that he won't get away with in the NFL. Anyone who watched his last game could see that and his personality problem showed it's ugly head there again as well. I won't say that he can't be serviceable with coaching by an NFL coach but I don't believe he could come in and start. Maziel is not a fair comparison because he is a drunk while Mayfield is just childish with no self control.

There is no doubt that he had a great OL and superior weapons at Oklahoma, not denying that at all. But imho you greatly underestimate his talent and overstate his flaws. All a guy can do is excel in the system he is in, so that is a BS criticism, and you have zero idea about how he would have done playing at any other school, that is pure negative conjecture on your part. He is not a jerk like Manziel was/is, he is a super-emotional guy who does have some growing up to do, but who is adored by his coaches and teammates, something which was never true about Manziel. Perhaps you might be willing to stop childishly referring to him as "Baker Manziel" every single time you mention him? If something like that is cute once or twice, it just comes off as petulant or spiteful when continued ad nauseum, and I admit that I find it irksome already. He is not under 6' tall, and he is very solidly built. And please stop saying ignorant things like "he doesn't make many tight window throws" because that is simply not true, he makes tight window throws all the time. I don't know why you have this irrational dislike for him that causes you to try to support your arguments by saying things that are demonstrably false; watch any Mayfield highlight video on Youtube and you will see him make dozens of tight window throws. And geez, the guy just put up 48 points against one of the best defenses in the country, and that after climbing out of a sickbed. If you listen to any of the postgame interviews he had practically no voice, so it is clear that he was still sick. And see what the real experts say about Mayfield, including the Georgia coaches that just beat the Sooners:

Oh so I need to listen to the "experts"? The same experts that said Watson was not worthy of a 1st round pick and I desperately wanted him. I know what I think and I have been right many times and been wrong way more than that. I have watched the OU child play numerous times. And more often than not he had a great game while at same time being a douche. Being emotional doesn't make you grab your junk, but being a douche does. Being emotional doesn't make you bounce a ball off the helmet of a team warming up, but being a douche does. And I guarantee you that these are only the things we know about. There are more than likely other off the field things that have been covered up. Every time you mention his great attributes why don't you mention he doesn't have the ability to get under center?? If you haven't stood next to him then you have no idea if he is 6'0" tall. I have said numerous times he is a great college QB. I just don't think he will be even close to that successful in the NFL and I don't want to waste the 6th pick on him. And when you say all he can do is excel in the system he plays in is BS and you know it. Tebow excelled in a system. Petty excelled in a system. Geno excelled in a system. Another thing is you have to have a strong arm in MetLife. He has the bust potential of any QB.

As you implied, time will tell if you are right or I am right. But:
  • How do you know "he doesn't have the ability to get under center?" Just because he hasn't had to do something doesn't mean he can't if he needs to. Again, time will tell.
  • I said you need to listen to the "experts?" I suggested you hear the opinion of some very successful college coaches who had just played him, as well as another college coach, Lane Kiffin. Not the so-called pundits. And for the record, I also really wanted the Jets to draft Watson - although I have no complaints about Adams.
  • His arm is plenty strong enough to make every NFL throw, MetLife or not.
  • The team that is smart enough to draft Baker Mayfield will also be smart enough to use him in a way that takes advantage of his unique skillset, as a lot of teams have started to do with their young QBs. He is an inspirational leader to his teammates, and that goes a long way even in the NFL.

We will see. I believe he is an incredible college QB. But like with more than most Heisman winners they flop in the NFL. I just hope the Jets don't waste a pick on him. Let someone else take the risk.

I'm neutral on Mayfield right now. Just curious. Do you consider Josh Allen with his 56% completion percentage a risk as well?

Raise your hand if you were 20 Y.O. and never drank too much or mouthed off to a cop?

If you did neither of the two, congratulations, you were a much better kid than me, and Namath, and Mantle, and Ruth, and the list is endless.

But sorry, I'm not passing on an exciting, potential FQB over it, who has balls of steel, is deadly accurate, and flings the ball all over the yard like a young Drew Brees.

If he's still on the board at 6, I'm running that card to the podium and taking him.

If he implodes and it fails, so be it, but you can't win in this league without a FQB, so I'm taking the risk.

I know. I've said it before. We look at these kids and give them a hard time because they do stupid things. Looking back at my college years, I was an animal. Imagine being in the spot light where you are looked up to by everyone and can get away with anything, while at the same time you are still just a stupid kid. Only you won't know you are just a stupid kid for another 10-20 years.

I wouldn't have drafted my college self and while I still might be somewhat of a dumbass, I am no where near the dumbass I was in my 20's

At what point does it become an issue?
I could overlook one mistake, kids mess up but when it continues and they don't seem to learn from the mistakes. It becomes a concern.
Do you hitch your franchise hopes on him?

GOOD LUCK trying to parlay COMMON SENSE to one yahoo in particular. But I am total agreement. We all put on our pants the same way. Now, there may be some idiots out there that truly believe they are better in life than other people, however we all know they are full of sh*t.
