Steve Young was black? I never knew...

Oh, you were thinking Vince Young. Well, I was only pointing our successful QBs in my grouping because the response was to someone who felt Winston was an elite QB prospect, so I only stated mobil successful QBs...if you read 2 posts down, I compared him to tarkenton...that makes 2 white QBs and 3 black QBs I've compared him to...if you included Big Ben, it's a 3:3 tie, but I didn't say Big Ben, the above response did...

Gotcha -- sorry for the misunderstanding.

I'd take Bradford or Foles as insurance policies. If Winston/Mariota is on the board when the Jets pick, I run up the isle with the pick. Neither Bradford, always hurt, or Foles, Philly fans were actually glad to see Sanchez come in last year, are the long term solution.

Winston/Mariota may be. Or maybe not. LOL

Both Foles and Bradford would excel with Gailey as OC. I do worry about Bradfords' health so Foles would be my primary target. I could see him here winning a lot of games for many years.

I have mixed feelings on both of them. Bradford I would take in a heart beat except for the fact that he can't stay on the field, which is mega.

Foles in his first year looked like he was going to be the next hot QB. Last year not so much. Even before he was hurt. Are they both better then Smith? You betcha. Would just for once like to go into a season with a QB who I thought was really good.

Sammy Watkins - WR - Bills
Sammy Watkins' target count is expected to drop this season.
Watkins' 128 targets last year tied for 21st in the league and led the Bills. But now there's more talent on offense (Percy Harvin, Charles Clay, LeSean McCoy) and coach Rex Ryan will feature a run-based offense. In six years under Ryan, the Jets ranked 4th, 5th, 6th, 16th, 2nd and 1st in team rushing attempts.

Allen Robinson - WR - Jaguars
Allen Robinson (foot) is considered ahead of schedule in his rehab.
Robinson continues to gradually increase his participation in drills as he comes off a stress fracture. "He's progressing really nicely," coach Gus Bradley said. If Robinson is healthy, he projects to lead the Jaguars in targets as an NFL

Jarvis Landry - WR - Dolphins
The Miami Herald expects Jarvis Landry to serve as Ryan Tannehill's "go-to guy, particularly in the early part of the season."
Landry isn't a favorite in the fantasy community due to athletic limitations and low yards per catch, but he's likely to be a 2015 target monster, especially after DeVante Parker's setback with his foot. A high-volume slot receiver, Landry averaged nine targets per game in the second half of last season. He's less desirable in standard leagues, but could push for WR2 value in PPR this year.

Martavis Bryant - WR - Steelers
Ben Roethlisberger says he's seen "growth" in second-year WR Martavis Bryant this offseason.
Bryant spent the spring learning mixed-martial arts to improve his hand usage at the line, and added ten pounds of muscle. "I have seen a guy that wants to be good, wants to be great," Big Ben said. "Every day he is working at his craft and talking to me about things he can improve on. You just see him continuing to grow and learn from the best in the business who is in his room in Antonio (Brown)." Bryant scored eight TDs in ten games as a rookie, despite playing well under half of the Steelers' offensive snaps. He has WR2 upside in year two.

Cody Latimer - WR - Broncos
According to Yahoo's Charles Robinson, Broncos WR Cody Latimer "checked out mentally" during his rookie season.
Latimer has an abundance of physical tools, but wasn't mentally bought in as a rookie. Robinson reports Latimer was "unmotivated" by his low depth-chart standing, and took "a laid back approach to pretty much everything that comes along with NFL preparation." While the 2015 offseason reports have been glowing, this is an obvious red flag for Latimer's short- and long-term outlooks.

John Brown - WR - Cardinals
Carson Palmer said he expects "huge things" from second-year WR John Brown in 2015.
Brown has been one of the more buzz-worthy players around the league this offseason. Beat writers, teammates, and coaches are all expecting a spike in production for the bulked-up sophomore. Brown will travel to San Diego after this week's minicamp to work out with Palmer. Brown has a shot to lead the Cardinals in receiving this season in a sort-of "passing of the torch" from Larry Fitzgerald.

2014 draft pick (non-Wr) -

Logan Thomas - QB - Cardinals
Coach Bruce Arians said second-year QB Logan Thomas is "still a work in progress."
"He still makes those wild throws and you scratch your head sometimes," Arians said. Offseason reports haven't been glowing for Thomas, who was an erratic mess at Virginia Tech. The Cardinals seemed to be the perfect landing spot for him with Arians, but the quarterback guru hasn't been able to get much out of Thomas. If Thomas can't flip the switch in Arizona, we doubt he can elsewhere.

I posted this as well on the OTAs thread, but worth posting here as well. Evans had a largely non-existent rookie season and according to writers, started slowly in OTAs but seems to be getting some traction lately. Would love to see continued improvement from the 2014 draftee. This from Scout blogger:

"Shaq Evans flashed at times during New York’s set of OTAs and had another nice practice on Tuesday. Last year’s fourth-round pick made a nice grab on a sideline and another solid catch down the seam on a pass from quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. Evans is one of several receivers presently fighting for one of two, potentially three, roster spots behind Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker, Devin Smith and Jeremy Kerley."

2014 Rookie Class Post -

Blake Bortles - QB - Jaguars
Blake Bortles said he's aiming for a $100 million contract.
"That’s the goal," said Bortles. "I try and get better each and every day and why not make a career out of this, not a job? I want to be here long term and do as much as I can to make this team better and have a blast doing it." Bortles' current focus should be on winning games, not increasing the size of his bank account. The 23-year-old has a long way to go to earn a nine-figure contract. Bortles reportedly worked hard to improve his mechanics this spring, though we won't know if the changes took hold until the regular season.

2014 Draft Class -

Troy Niklas - TE - Cardinals
Cardinals second-year TE Troy Niklas will undergo ankle surgery on Thursday.
Niklas went down in Week 11 with a high-ankle sprain that required surgery. He again rolled his ankle in Tuesday's minicamp practice and needs another "procedure." Coach Bruce Arians expects Niklas to be ready for training camp, but the ankle is an obvious concern for last year's No. 52 overall pick. Tight end is a thankless position in Arians' offense, leaving Niklas well off the fantasy map.

2014 Draft Class post (i.e. non-WR):

Jack Mewhort - G - Colts
The Colts have used second-year OL Jack Mewhort strictly at right tackle throughout spring practices.
They're preparing to start Mewhort there after he spent his rookie season at guard. Incumbent RT Gosder Cherilus is a replacement-level player who is battling chronic knee problems. From left to right, we'd guess the Colts' Week 1 line ends up as LT Anthony Castonzo, LG Hugh Thornton, C Khaled Holmes, RG Todd Herremans, and RT Mewhort. It's a sub-par unit, but the Colts didn't have a great line last year, either, and ranked No. 3 in total offense.

Johnny Manziel’s old high school coach has moved in with him

Johnny Manziel
AP
Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel has more than teammates looking out for him.

He has a new roommate.

Via Pat McManamon of ESPN.com, Browns cornerback Joe Haden said that one of Manziel’s former coaches from Kerrville, Texas was living with him.

An official at his old high school said it was Julius Scott, who Manziel has hailed as an influence in the past. Manuel told the Houston Chronicle that Scott “had the single biggest impact on my development as a player.”

Manziel hasn’t talked to reporters since leaving rehab, but Haden’s done plenty of talking for him.

Having Scott around is an extension of other moves Manziel has made, including having LeBron James advisor Maverick Carter by his side, as he works to stay on the right path.

Glad we get them in week 2.

Luck is always going to be tough to beat, but it can't hurt to have an OL that is still finding its way . . .

Bum sandwich...just like I thought when he was coming out:

Logan Thomas - QB - Cardinals
ESPN Cardinals reporter Josh Weinfuss thinks coach Bruce Arians "has had enough" of second-year QB Logan Thomas.
Thomas' place on the roster is in serious danger. He barely saw any action by the end of OTAs and was quickly yanked off the field on Wednesday after communication issues with his offensive line led to pre-snap penalties. Chandler Harnish and UDFA Phillip Sims are in the mix for No. 3 duties with Thomas.

Martavis Bryant - WR - Steelers
According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Martavis Bryant has left an "imprint" at Steelers OTAs with his "obvious athleticism and speed."
In addition to taking up MMA and adding ten pounds of muscle, Bryant spent the spring running routes in sand. Bryant said running in sand pits and on beaches was designed to improve his mobility. "I used to not be that way," he said. "I used to be just big." Ben Roethlisberger has praised the sophomore breakout candidate for "working at his craft" and "wanting to be great."

Marqise Lee - WR - Jaguars
Marqise Lee (knee) is expected to miss next week's minicamp.
Lee hurt his knee at OTAs. Both coach Gus Bradley and Lee hinted that while Lee may be able to participate, the smart decision is to be cautious. Because the Jaguars added very little at receiver during the offseason, Lee's standing on the depth chart should be okay as long as he's ready for training camp.

Kelvin Benjamin - WR - Panthers
Kelvin Benjamin (hamstring) resumed practicing Thursday.
Benjamin has been battling a nagging hammy issue for about a month. His return to workouts confirms there was no serious tear.

Davante Adams - WR - Packers
Aaron Rodgers said Davante Adams is "starting to reach" his "humongous upside."
Adams gained Rodgers' trust quickly as a rookie, easily icing Jarrett Boykin for the No. 3 wideout gig and earning 11 targets in the Wild Card win over Dallas. If Randall Cobb had walked in free agency, Adams would be set up for a huge season. Instead, Adams will have to settle for an inconsistent role behind Cobb and Jordy Nelson. He's still a quality fantasy-bench piece and handcuff to the aforementioned starters. There's a lot of talent here and a league-best passing game.

Jadeveon Clowney - LB - Texans
Coach Bill O'Brien said Jadeveon Clowney will be eased back into action when he returns from microfracture surgery.
The Texans expect Clowney to be ready Week 1, but he won't see a full complement of snaps upon his return. Aside from J.J. Watt, the Texans don't have much in the pass-rush department. Whitney Mercilus will handle one outside linebacker spot, but snaps are up for grabs after Brooks Reed signed with Atlanta.

Also note, ironic, Richard Sherman and Calvin Pryor; Communication majors.
"Communications Major" is college football-ese for "Players who either aren't smart enough to collect a college degree, or aren't the least bit interested in one because all they care about is playing football and getting to the NFL on their known level of talent."
It's right up there with a degree in "Sports Training"-aka a Phys. Ed. degree, and "Underwater Basket Weaving".

Aaron Rodgers couldn't even finish his Communications Major degree program at California. He still doesn't have a college degree.
Think he will ever need one?

It's all in the past now. Not much really that we can do about it right? Idzik was a sh*thead. We have all established that now. But we weren't really worried about that at the time. We still thought we had a decent GM.

Really the tell tale sign for me was the CB spot going into last season. Idzik had almost no talent at all during TC at the CB spot. Everyone wondered if he would sign another corner and yet he decided that pinching pennies was more important. Talk about stupid. Then that idiot Patterson went awol on the team and Idzik actually let him get away with it. Then, two days Idzik actually gets the point and gets rid of Patterson. Beyond dumb.

So now he's down one corner in a stable of sh*t corners to begin with. So what does he do? He says the Jets do not need another corner. That right there was career suicide. Milliner was a walking injury and who the hell knows what kind of player McDougle is?

This is to say nothing about Idzik being too dumb to be aware that Rex needs corners to play his defense. If you don't have corners you get burned over the top and that is exactly what happened to the Jets last season.

And really the most telling thing about Idzik's incompetence is what the new regime immediately did when getting the job. Bowles is similar to Rex in that he loves to blitz. So Mac immediately goes out and gets Revis, Cro, and Skrine. That tells you that Mac KNEW that the Jets:

1) Needed multiple corners.
2) The existing corners lacked talent and were injury prone.
3) Mac was also smart enough to see that his coach needed corners to play his scheme.

The actions of the new regime exposed Idzik for the retard that he was. Good riddance

Johnny Manziel - QB - Browns
Browns QB coach Kevin O’Connell wouldn’t rule out Johnny Manziel starting.
"My thoughts on Johnny haven't changed," said O’Connell, who worked with Manziel during last year’s pre-draft process. "Right now coach Pettine's been very clear that Josh McCown is here for a reason, but we build everything around competition." McCown is comfortably ahead of Manziel at OTAs. Manziel hasn't shown anything to think he'll factor into the Week 1 job, but could make starts this season.

Josh Huff - WR - Eagles
NJ.com believes Eagles second-year WR Josh Huff will be used "way more than people expect."
Beat writer Eliot Shorr-Parks goes as far as to say he thinks Huff will have a better season than first-round rookie Nelson Agholor. It's a bit of a #hottaek , but it's certainly possible Huff takes a step forward as an NFL sophomore. As one of Chip Kelly's "guys," he should steal outside reps from Riley Cooper and will be a factor in the return game. It'll be worth keeping an eye on Huff's progress during training camp.
Related: Nelson Agholor, Riley Cooper

A.J. McCarron - QB - Bengals
Bengals second-year QB A.J. McCarron has had a good enough spring that the team may only keep two quarterbacks.
There are apparently "rumors" that McCarron could push Andy Dalton, but that's skipping pretty far ahead considering McCarron has never so much as thrown a preseason pass. McCarron does look to have a comfortable lead on Josh Johnson and Terrelle Pryor. McCarron was a fifth-round pick in the 2014 draft.

Johnny Manziel - QB - Browns
ESPN Browns reporter Pat McManamon said Johnny Manziel fumbled three snaps in a span of six plays at Tuesday's practice.
All of his fumbles came in the shotgun formation. Manziel seems to have gotten his personal life under control but on the football field he's still having trouble grasping basic concepts. The Browns haven't ruled out the idea of starting Manziel, but at this point, he just doesn't have the chops to compete with Josh McCown.

Davante Adams - WR - Packers
Aaron Rodgers said WR Davante Adams "has star potential -- for sure."
Rodgers, who previously went on the record saying Adams is "starting to reach" his "humongous upside," is talking up his second-year wideout every chance he gets. "Davante is a very polished player, and he has an excellent demeanor for a guy who’s going to be a star," Rodgers said. "I mean, he carries himself like a star – which is a very high compliment. There’s only been a few guys around here who’ve had that charisma: Charles (Woodson), Julius (Peppers), Greg (Jennings) always had it as a young player. But there’s very few guys that really ‘get it." Adams is going to erupt if anything happens to Jordy Nelson or Randall Cobb.

Marqise Lee - WR - Jaguars
Marqise Lee (knee) will not participate in this week's minicamp.
Lee's left knee is the latest nagging issue to sideline him. It wouldn't be a big deal if he didn't already have a reputation for being stuck in the training room and if he didn't underperform as a rookie. Lee is expected back for training camp.

Sammy Watkins - WR - Bills
Sammy Watkins (hip surgery) was getting some 11-on-11 work Tuesday.
Watkins' rehab from a offseason labrum cleanup is progressing on track. He'll be a full go for training camp.
