2015 Jets can make the playoffs if the QB doesn't blow it

Let's end this convo please. Nothing but posts to inflame the other poster were written. We can't just say Genonono 90% of the time with no relevant content.....

How about taking action? You are simply enabling this guy who is battling everyone with his enflamed posts and unintelligible jibberish. Most of us are having civil conversation but this guy has locked horns with myself, jets82 and 55 all this weekend alone. Placing your head in the sand will not improve the environment.

Have we gotten better? Definitely.

Have two other teams in our division gotten better? I don't see how we could deny it.

Like it or not, we were bottom feeders last year. We needed to get better just to catch up to them, so if they also improved there's a good chance we're still behind.

To me it all comes down to coaching. If we can get a leg up there it will make a WORLD of difference in the outcome of the season.

If we can't, then we'll likely improve in record, but not in standing . . .
You might be right

Miami clearly improved but has a lame duck HC on a one year playoffs or fired trial

New England has a 38+ year old QB and lost Wilfork, Revis, Browner and Vereen so far

Buffalo has no first round pick and got worse with Cassell for Orton, and much worse with WRECKS and his seven coaching dwarfs in for Marrone and Schwartz

We have improved coaching plus have fixed the wide receiver, defensive back and possibly even the game manager QB crises we started the offseason with. And we have an excellent chance of adding additional playmakers at 6 and 37

Call me a blind homer but I'm optimistic that the Jets are at least back in the division competition for the first time since 2010

He insists on having the last word so he can appear as the winner. I'd suggest you let him have one more "intelligent" response so we can all rest. He had one thread locked yesterday, this nearly made it two. I see a pattern of behavior and will again alert the mods to watching posters like this. I'm sure he'll complain about that too.
I agree and my fault for even entertaining the ignorance. Everyone here has there own opinions obviously and whether right or wrong, there just opinions. Were all fans, not God or even NFL players, coaches, GMs or owners. So none of us have any insight to who will be what, who will improve, who has a chance and who doesn't and who can turn things around and who can't. Were all die-hard Jets fans here (I hope) and want the best the for our team (I hope). Like this site or any other site, our conversations should be civil and make since about our beloved team and nothing more. So I will bow down because that's what I'm here for, not entertaining the bullsh#t.

Lets make something clear here.....

This Jets team is INCAPABLE of winning anymore than 8 games with Geno Smith or Ryan Fitzpatrick. The Jets will NEVER be a playoff team with these two guys leading the way. If the Jets want to make the playoffs they MUST draft a QB. There's no other way.

Look at the facts. Has Ryan Fitzpatrick ever led a team to a winning record? EVER? Without looking I believe the answer is NO. And I've got news for all Jets fans....... He's the BEST QB on this roster.

So short of drafting Mariota or the Baylor guy, there's no reason to have hope the Jets can make the playoffs this season. NONE.

Fitzpatrick's history is close enough to Jim Plunkett's that I do think there is a precedent that a QB like him can make the playoffs. And not only did Plunkett make the playoffs late in his previously undistinguished career. He won the Superbowl. In fact, he won 2 SB's. And he was the MVP in the first one.

Plunkett, if memory serves me, was the #1 overall pick in the draft, whereas Fitzpatrick was a late rounder or UDFA?

Plunkett was a GREAT College QB at Stanford, I believe he won the Heisman trophy, and he was considered an elite QB prospect, a can't miss, but the Patriots had a terrible O-line outside of John Hannah and Plunkett took a terrible beating, which nearly destroyed him physically and mentally, but the Raiders wisely snatched him up and gave him a chance to sit for about a year, and he slowly got healthy and regained his confidence, then finally lived up to his potential and did the things people expected from him when he was in college.

i agree plunkett has the same story fitz had they never had a good team around till later in life.

the jets are the best team fitzpatrick has ever been on just like the raiders and that defense juggernaught plunkett went too.

Don't think draft order is particularly important. But yes, the team a QB winds up on is important. And what I am saying is that perhaps Fitz's failures so far are due to the teams he has been on, and there is a chance he will be able to flower with the Jets. At least I plan to enter next season being hopeful even if our QB composition remains as it currently is.

And as to Plunkett being a Heisman winner, that is really a huge shortcoming he had to overcome, in my view. In fact, only Plunkett and Staubach have won the Heisman then won a SB. So only those two Heisman QB's have been able to overcome winning the Heisman.

Agreed, the Heisman means nothing to the NFL because the college game is so much different than the pro game for QB's, or at least it used to be, now its getting a little closer with more teams running some variation of the read option to accommodate the more athletic QB's, but generally speaking you are right, the Heisman for QB's is a poor indicator for professional success.

BTW I'm surprised Namath didn't win it at Alabama?

I always thought he did because it was a storied program with a legendary coach and Namath was amazing, won a national title, so I always just assumed he won the Heisman.

Nope. When it comes to QB's who won the Heisman, if the name isn't "Staubach" or "Plunkett" you know for sure there are no SB wins. But if you want to dig back before there was a SB, one other Heisman QB did win an NFL title, and that's Paul Hornung. So only 3 NFL champion QB's in history also won the Heisman. That's one reason I hope the Jets steer clear of the two available this year.

I don't think there has been a single poster who thinks Fitz is leading the Jets to a championship in the short term

What Fitz is is the hold the fort vet QB who can make the Jets competitive again in the short term given the improvements to the WR and DB position already achieved

It is a given to just about any and all Jet fans, however, that Fitz can be a game manager who is vastly more reliable and mistake free than Sanchez of 2011 and 2012 (52 turnovers) and Geno of 2013 and 2014 (too many turnovers and foul ups to count)

Maybe we draft a long term solution in this draft or in 2016 who can take over the helm from Fitz when ready.

At least we'll be going into battle with a competent QB for the first time since 2010

I'm not saying Fitz will do it. But I am saying I think there is a chance he could do it. But I'll admit I'm a hopeless romantic going into every new season. I always seem to feel the Jets will do better than they actually wind up doing. At least I'm happy as the season starts...

Yeah, keep grasping a hold of those straws. Keep grasping a hold of that ONE exception to the rule.

In fact I will make you a promise right now. If Ryan Fitzpatrick EVER gets the Jets to the SB ( not even win it just get the Jets into one), I will jump from the building of your choosing. No matter how high, I will jump even if it means certain injury and/or death.

That's how certain I am that 1) Ryan Fitzpatrick (or Geno) will NEVER take this team to the playoffs, let alone get the Jets to the SB, or even god forbid, WIN the SB. That is quite simply the dumbest proclamation ever made. 2) You must be on some sort of serious mind altering, delusion inducing, drug that I would never want any part of.

If the Jets plan on getting better and eventually winning the SB, if that is truly what they plan on doing, then they MUST draft a QB in this draft.

If you're so certain, why not extend your offer to cover doing what you are suggesting if the Jets make the playoffs? Not so certain? Hedging your bet?

Do you enjoy being miserable every season, with the expectation the Jets will always fail? You do seem to be one of the most miserable guys around here.

Nope. You're jumping to conclusions. With what you are saying you would think I was making a Namath-style guarantee. Not only am I not making any guarantee, I am not even saying the Jets are even going to the playoffs, let alone winning the SB. I only said it was possible.

Damn, read a little more carefully, will you?
