I don't understand this. How did picking a guy at 30 instead of 33 impact their fourth pick?

Seriously, I'm not getting the math in this argument.
To be clear My point is simply this: I felt trading back into the 1st was unnecessary.
I feel Boston and a guy like CJ Allen or any of the CBs and S available when they picked would have been more valuable than Cooper and Ponds. I think if they would have stayed put at 33 and 44 they would have gotten equal value or more imo.

Like I said its all personal preference and opinion.

Think his drops were concentration related, trying to turn upfield before securing the ball. We're all easy catches. Did better when contested, or with difficult catches. Being a jet, he sould never see easy catches,,,,
Yep. That is accurate.........

This kid Klubiak the Jets just drafted, he was once a five star high school recruit and at some point in college, he was predicted to be a number one draft pick. Plus a four year starter at Clemson. That’s pretty impressive! I don’t know where it all fell apart, but we’ll see where it goes as far as the pros are concerned. He might surprise us all with the correct training in time or he might be on a different team in two years as a back up someplace else. He’s not the QB I wanted the Jets to draft but he’s ours now. For now anyway!
He was injured most of the season on top of what others have posted about the o line and exceptionally high drop rates by multiple receivers. Had a core strain early, a quad contusion, ankle sprain and thumb injury and played through it all. I believe he still managed to end the season with 5 consecutive wins including the Bowl game vs Penn State

Hey ! ! They finally drafted a Guard. And he's actually at least an average to good starter.
I think you're over rating Cooper. He needs a ton of work to become a starter, is limited in athletic ability and struggles with keeping his weight down.

What is puzzling us is why you think the third and fourth picks are related. They are completely separate.

The Jets wanted WR Cooper, who many thought they would take at #16, and they gave up a FIFTH round pick in order to move up a few spots and leapfrog the Bills. Sure Boston may have been there at #33 but they wanted Cooper.

THEN

In the second round the Lions apparently wanted a DE at #44 so the Jets traded down six spots and gained a FOURTH round pick. Moggie's assessment was that the state of the draft board meant that we wouldn't lose much value in the second round pick, and sure enough we took Ponds, who Tankathon projected as the #40 pick.

THEN

We used the fourth round pick to trade up for Klubnik, who was the best QB available at that point.

Moggie's trading up and down the draft suggests he was actively getting the guys we evaluated as useful rather than just picking somebody because it was our turn.

Anytime you can trade up for someone no one wants you should always do it is my philosophy.

No...............not really. I know what we are getting in him.You are correct that he is not very athletic. You are also correct that he has a weight problem, but he has been able to cope with that mostly on his own. He does need a lot of work in some areas. His pass blocking scores are very good. Last season he allowed no sacks and only 2 QB hits. That's what the Jets are looking at. His run blocking scores are about 9 points ,
( PFF ), lower for just the reasons you stated but he wasn't as bad as some are saying. He obviously will have to show some measurable improvement in that area to be an immediate starter. Right now he would be a rotational player and working his way up to a starting position. I do think he's an upgrade over Simpson but one of my biggest complaints with Simpson was that he had the 2nd highest number of penalties on the team and unfortunately Cooper had 6 of his own last season. Simpson has always been bad in that area and at his age pretty set in his ways and couldn't help himself. I am hoping that because Cooper is young, ( 22 ) they can coach that out of him. If not.........well we are no worse off I guess.

I think the biggest plus to this is acquiring the option for the 5th year for a cheap 5th round pick. If Cooper turns out to be a quality NFL receiver they gist got an extra CHEAP year for almost nothing.

Simpson isn't the yardstick here, the question is, is he better than Newman?

How do you know no one wanted him? QBs were overrated in this draft, lots of needy teams. No one wanted Allar but he went before the Jets could get to him.
Been a Jets fan for 40+ years and this is their history. I don't have a problem with the pick, but they could have got him or a replica any time in the draft. Not a single QB was worth any type of trade up in this draft.
