So lets start with this, when exactly is the deadline for the Pats to make a decision on Revis' option?

That is the start.

Every second we get closer to that deadline, the Jets' chances increase.

Now, I'm not 100% sold on wanting him, as I think he's a greedy lowlife. But he's a greedy lowlife who is the best CB in a quickly depleted market.

Revis will be cut.... The Pats cannot take a 25 Mill Cap hit..... And Revis goes to the highest bidder.... No discounts for the Pats cause he won a Super Bowl there. Guarantee the Pats want to do a similar contract with Revis 2 years probably for 35 mill with 15-16 this year and 20 next with the Pats able to cut Revis after this year and not be on the hook next year....

This will probably be Revis last chance at a huge contract.... He wants 4 years 70million... If I am the Jets I do it and I make sure I can cut him after year 3 with no cap charge...

I'm a little torn on Revis, too. I know he'll try to get huge guaranteed money, and probably want a 4 year deal. I see Revis as a very good player for about another 2 years. After that, you'll be paying large for a CB with deteriorating skills.

But with the market drying up quickly, we may not have a choice.

Actually the Pats can take the cap hit on the 25 mil, and their moves outlined in todays Boston Herald show exactly how this is what they are preparing for in case they can't sign him long term before the deadline. Declining Wilfork's option and signing MCourty long term actually opened more cap space for them. I wouldn't have thought it possible before but the Pats may actually never let Revis hit the open market and because it's an option still negotiate a long term deal prior to the season.

Just wondering if the Pats already have a deal in place with Revis and they're stringing it out to screw the Jets. Keep the Jets hopes up while they're missing out on other options. Just a thought.

Not saying your wrong but the only thing I see ESPN reporting is that the Patriots aren't picking up Browner's option.

Welcome to NYJF! Hope to see you post some more.

I hope the Jets aren't dumb enough to wait for Revis situation to play out and actually pounce on their other high priority FA.

No way.

Way to much to lose with a tampering suit. That's not to say they haven't made it known they are VERY interested, but there is no deal in place right now.

Suspect his phone will be ringing 1 min, after FA opens. That is if Rex doesn't spend the night serenading him in his back yard. :)

I guess, but they wouldn't do this to screw with Jets fans. It would be more likely they'd string it along to keep the Jets from moving on to Plan B in the market.

I haven't taken a look, so I don't know what this grand plan is, but does it involve actually replacing Wilfork? After all, they just let him go and created a big hole on the DL. As is, they weren't great at stopping the run last year, and will be worse without Wilfork.

mentioned elsewhere, but figured i'd put it in the official revis thread

The New England Patriots will not pick up the $20 million option in Darrelle Revis' contract, making the star cornerback a free agent Tuesday, a source told ESPN.

Darrelle Revis will become a free agent Tuesday with the Patriots declining his $20 million option for 2015.

The Patriots are expected to continue speaking with Revis' representatives about a contract, while the New York Jets have been planning to make a run at Revis should he hit the open market.

When the Patriots signed Revis on March 17, 2014, the terms of the contract were two years for $32 million, although team president Jonathan Kraft later acknowledged that the 2015 season was a "placeholder."

The "placeholder" was in reference to Revis having a mammoth $25 million salary-cap charge for 2015, which the team was unlikely to absorb and thus leading the sides back to the negotiating table where Revis would either sign an extension or be released to become an unrestricted free agent.

The arrangement worked for both sides, as the Patriots benefited from Revis returning to top form two seasons after tearing his ACL and playing for the under-market rate of $12 million for the 2014 season.

Meanwhile, Revis re-established himself as arguably the game's top cornerback, raising his profile in going from a Tampa Bay team that ended up with the No. 1 pick in the 2015 draft to the Super Bowl champion Patriots.

Revis, who turns 30 on July 14, started every game for the Patriots in 2014 and was a valuable chess piece who often matched up against opponents' top receivers in the team's predominantly man coverage scheme. He finished with 14 passes defended in the regular season and had two interceptions, although the statistics don't fully reflect his value because the football wasn't often coming his way.

Good thing none of the other free agents want our money, because revis will want all of it. Back the cap space up and dump $20 mill/season on his door step and he'll sign here.

What do you guys honestly think he lands at? $12, 14, 16 mill/year? Maxwell got $10 mill, so dont say anything silly please, and Sherman gets 4 years 56 mill and Patrick Peterson got 5 years $70 mill...so does 5 years for $75 mill get Revis?

I'd still be surprised if Revis doesn't work something out with NE. Belicheck has got to be thinking that Brady can't have many more years left so he mine as well keep the team together for as long as possible, including keeping the best CB in football. Not sure he cares about the long term cap health of the team cause I think he retires along with Brady in a year or two. That would be the smart thing to do to protect his legacy.
