Only Jet rookie to make the list. He has 35 catches and 311 yard. With a better QB, how much better can he get?

What are your thoughts on Amaro? What person does he remind you most of?

He has had a ton of drops but I think that will improve soon. It's funny because he'd make an awful drop on an easy play and then on the very next play, he'll make a much more difficult catch. mind boggling, he'll need to improve his production.

If he doubles that production next year to 70 catches for 600 yards, i'll be happy.

If we had a better qb he would have had 500 yards and at least four td's.

I think that's realistic..

BTW, can you imagine adding "the kid can't play" to the idzik soap opera??

Jace Amaro - TE - Jets
A potential spread offense is expected to benefit Jets TE Jace Amaro.
New offensive coordinator Chan Gailey is an expert at getting his playmakers in space via spread formations. So it's a no-brainer to expect Amaro to take a leap forward in this scheme. He's essentially an oversized possession wideout at 6'5/265 and Gailey will be desperate for difference-makers -- especially if Percy Harvin is cut loose. Amaro is firmly on the TE2 radar heading into his second NFL season.

Got to keep in mind that this was a horrible rookie class for TE's.

With that said Amaro has some upside, as Elias said, Smith certainly didn't help his cause. The drops have to stop though . Now.

Horrible?

You're going to be burned by that comment. Wre they banged up this year? Sure. But when we look back on Ebron, ASJ, Nikolas, and CFed to go with Amaro...I dont think we'll be calling this a weak TE draft...just one that dropped like flies as rookies.

Doesn't matter what they do in the future, the thread was based on how they performed as rookies. They were horrible this year

Ahhh, my post was about year 2. I didn't factor in year 1 since I moved past that point. We were talking apples and oranges...and I agree he needs to stop with the drop. His big drop at New England reminded me of the Stephen hill drop there a few years ago. I think he'll get better though and be on the few (maybe 2) Idzik good draft picks.

Amaro will be good. He just needs to focus a bit. He was able to make the hard catches but the ones he was open he couldn't make. Weird.

I wonder if a spread offense will help Geno and if he is suited to that type of offense??

i am not sure in a spread you need to read the defense before the snap. In a west coast you throw to a spot and the player is supposed to be their.

Spread worked good in college for him because he could rely on his athletic ability more, in the pros he won't have that edge because the players are as fast as he is.

The only way it might help is if spiller and jace become two very reliable dump-off options. I honestly think he would be best in a vertical offense myself.

or the old warren moon stand bye: The run and gun.

It's what geno and Amaro excelled with in college. Finally the jets pick a system that meets there qbs strengths.
Sanchez was a west coast qb,the jets switch to martys west coast offense the year they draft geno, a spread offense qb. It was ridiculous.

yes but like i said in colllege they can get away with it because they can survive on athletic ability alone..........in the nfl you need everything athletic ability and a brain.

which one of those doesn't geno have?

I like Amaro think his future will be bright...TEs in their first year usually struggle

yeah because they usually have to block more and it is harder for them to shed blocks in the nfl unless you spread them out wide ala gronk and graham in new orleans do.

That and they're still kids going against men. the men are going to stick, jam, and hit them ways they never saw in college. Same thing for young WRs usually struggle till last year's class. the NFL is a game of grown ass men...and rookies are fresh meat. It takes a while for the TEs and WRs usually to get off the line and get their timing down with the QB once they do...I think Stephen Hill is still getting jammed on a line someplace...

Carolina

Hill is quite the exception. He played for Georgia Tech. They throw about 2 passes a game. Think he had 42 passes his whole NCAA career. Why a WR with his natural talent would go there is baffling.

The fact a kid that big and fast could never figure out how to beat press coverage is what I find baffling.

Most of the WR's in the NFL haven't figured out how to beat a good press coverage CB. Hill hadn't even played on a team that had a passing game

I believe it was his first game in the NFL where he had two long TDs. I wet myself then and thought to myself we finally picked a good wr. That was his peak......
