Forgot all about that one. Damn the memories of all the dumbass moves the Jets made passing up excellent players in the draft. Like all the damn receivers last year, passing up Alshon Jefferies and drafting Stephen Hill instead in 2011 I believe. Many more ofcourse but the three ultimate screw ups were Marino, Sapp and Rodgers.I try not to think about Aaron Rogers in even comparing him to a young upstart.
If I do think about AR my my will revert back to 2005 when he was on the board when the Jets traded thier #1 for DOUG FRIGGIN JOLLY!!
I'm still wretching over that one. IMO that's worse than Marino, Sapp or any other draft blunder
I'd still take a QB with our first pick if one fell into our laps. Heck I would trade up for one if need be.
What is your point? Name the QB you want and why you think he will be the savior?
My point is that Petty is extremely raw and 3rd round QBs have a flameout rate of 90%+.
It's a bit of a pipe dream trying to project a guy as raw as Petty, so I'd still try to go out and draft another QB.
I don't know who the saviour is, no more than you know that Petty is. There's a lot of college ball left to play, we will see who performs, underwhelms and who actually enters the draft. Ask me in March who I like and I would be happy to let you know
Can we give Petty a chance to develop and show what he can do before we draft another QB?What is your point? Name the QB you want and why you think he will be the savior?
I tell you this much, I can't wait to see Petty on the field. I'm really hoping to see if he can do what I think he can and that is be a great one. Maybe not Aaron Rodgers but a great one yet in still.IMHO, Aaron Rodgers wouldnt be where he is today had he started year one in place of Brett Favre. What he learned on the sidelines was critical to his maturation and grasp of the game. Even when he finally took over in 2008, Packer fans were skeptical of a kid trying to fill the huge void left behind by management trading Brett.
Fast forward to Bryce. Do i think he can be Rodgers? I'am sorry, as big of a fan i'am of him, i dont think so, they're two different players. Do i think he has the talent to become a franchise QB? Yes. He has every intangible that can lead me to believe he can become a great star in this league. The kid has moxy, leadership, character, big arm, accurate and has been very successful at every level being patient.
The one aspect i would like that hopefully Bryce shares with Aaron is how the franchise helps him mature. The game is too fast for him right now. He'd get eaten alive by defenses and the fans as we know it here (and i'am a victim of it as well) will term him a complete bust in an instant.
Groom the kid. Just like Green bay did. Have him learn under Fitz in what he has to offer. Just like the Oilers did with Steve McNair under CHris Chandler and Eli Manning under Kurt Warner.
Time is of the essence for a young gun to become as prosperous as Aaron Rodgers.
How about Bryce Petty becomes the next Bryce Petty and we'll evaluate if he's good when that day comes?

Pretty much. Whether they pick a QB in the first next year also depends on what they think of Petty.
If you take a QB in the first, lets face it, your looking at him as your future. if they come to the conclusion that Petty is going to be blah, they'll probably make some kind of move to get a QB they can win with.
If they think Petty is their QB for the future, they need other players in the first also.
L
I think they need to go QB early until they find one. Even if they are fairly certain that Petty can be a NFL QB, they need to keep drafting them until they feel they have their guy.
All the rest is for naught if you don't have a QB. Fitz might get you to the playoffs but he is unlikely to take you to the SB.
If Goff or Hackenburg or Kessler are sitting there when you pick, I think you need to take them.
Oooh that hurt but could very well be true. Man I hope your wrong. We'll we all do and I'm sure you feel the same.Is there a chance he can be Aaron Rodgers? Of course there's a chance. Anything is possible. But given the track record of QB's taken in the NFL and their success rates, I'd say it's much more likely we have the next Ryan Leaf.
Jared Goff looks like a top 3 pick. He's looking like the real deal. No way the Jets have a chance at him. The Jets will win too many games.
