Interesting thoughts, what is your opinion on qb play based on?

Anyone can find stats to make any argument of course. But 3rd down stats from geno with a great running game and a full season and late season inflated numbers from gimme games vs. Fitz whose top receiver was out, foster was injured, and he broke his leg after 10 games of inspiring ball. 3rd down success had a lot to do with a real threat of a running game. Not to mention things like difficulty of schedule, etc.I have said it before but I think to really be successful, you need to have a QB that can make plays. And I do not believe Fitz makes plays at QB, Making plays to me means a few things. Third downs, red zone, extending plays with feet, sack avoidance, adjusted YPA, making all the throws. Let's look at one:
Making plays on third down (2014):
Ryan Fitzpatrick: 57/94662yds 60.6% 7.04 YPA 3TDs 2ints 83.7 rating
Geno Smith: 63/115 917 yds 54.8 %7.97 YPA 8TDs 4 ints 89.7 rating
So the "worst QB in the NFL" was basically even or slightly better even last year than Fitz. Now that is not to say that is good. Rodgers as an example was
81/134 1228 yards 60.4 % 9.16 YPA, 15TDs and 2 ints
But the veteran QB in Fitz was not better at this important down.
hard to find stats for the others, but Geno is poorly rated because he fumbles a lot, throws more pics (though he was better last year) and gets sacked a lot. Now all of those are bad, so I understand somewhat the ones that move on, but he improved last year at them and would have been much better at these this year. And Fitz is not great at these things either. Combine that with the ability to make plays and I think we are likely better off with Geno in a 3rd year with better weapons and a real OC.

On Defense, for the first time in a long time we are going to bring heat with 4 or 5 defenders leaving 6 to 7 in coverage. We are stacked on the backside too. I think we are going to see a more patient defense without being so vanilla that offenses get comfortable...the key is Williams & Mo getting to the QB.
* as to which, you should have confidence.
On Offense, I just can't see how people aren't seeing the most obvious addition by subtraction in the history of the game...Rex is gone.
With our new HC, we have a new OC who runs a traditional Offense taking what the D gives with * no wild cat and * no disruptions to what is working.
IMO, all of the "so-so" talent we have isn't "so-so"...TE, RB, WR- we have good players; really good! Fitz doesn't need to do anything special. He needs to be patient and dole the ball to people "who can" make plays. As Jet fans we've forgotten what that looks like going through Schotty, Sparano, and a Rex-stymied Marty.
I am not overtly giddy, but I am really interested in looking at a team with talent who doesn't blitz 8 on a 3rd and 19 giving up 20 (as that happened a lot), and an offense willing to matriculate...ps, much is made of Fitz's arm. he's got plenty for bombs when he can get air under it. This guy is more than game manager.
So call it Kool aid, but I think we're a team without glaring holes and more talent than we're getting credit for.
I don't see 11-5 out of the question.
From what I saw in pre-season, I think Petty can give us average play at least. Which is no less then we would have gotten out of Fitz and probably Geno anyway. Can Petty mentally handle the game right now is the question. I would hope he can but haven't seen enough to know. Like I said before, its probably just me wanting to see what isnt there yet and just wishing Petty was ready. I'm done with Geno after this jawbreak fiasco and I NEVER wanted to see Fitz on the field as our QB period.Fitz can be an average QB if thats all your looking for from the QB. Do you think Petty is more capable than Fitz this season? That's all that matters right now. The coaches don't think Petty is ready to win 10-11 games, plus he hasn't faced a real defense in his football career.

I figured so, lolGailey was quoted saying he doesn't like where Petty is right now but like where he is headed. It's wishful thinking on your part.
We may have our answer watching the Browns. If we crush them, we may have a pretty good team on our hands. But if we squeak by or, yes, even lose to them, it could be another very long season.

I agree completely. We missed this telling sign when we squeaked by the raiders last year.
