Bad News for Mayfield fans, Good News for Mayfield haters

No need for links, you all know me and you know I don't lie, but the rumors are growing (including Dan Patrick) that the Browns are seriously considering Mayfield at #1 Overall. It could all be a smokescreen, but it doesn't sound that way too me. Apparently the Browns GM has a special advisor, his right hand man if you will, who loves Mayfield, believes he's the best QB in the draft, and he's been telling the Browns GM this kid reminds him of Brett Favre who he coached way back when Favre was a neophyte just out of college, and the Browns GM is listening. We'll see what happens, but it sounds like Mayfield is seriously in play for that #1 Pick.

I wouldn’t call myself a hater. If we take Mayfield, then I’ve got to trust that our guys did their homework and will get this right. But if the Browns do take him #1, that means we’re going to probably have a shot at Darnold. And that’s a beautiful thing my man.

I may be crazy, but I think Rosen (provided he stays healthy) will be the better pro. I got spooked when a supposed expert said that Darnold reminded him a bit of Sanchez --- yikes!! Same body of work, ball security issues, USC...

My own personal QB rankings have Darnold at #4 ....

1. Baker Mayfield
2. Josh Allen
3. Josh Rosen
4. Sam Darnold

If not for the concussions issue, I would have Rosen #2

That said, I suspect Darnold will go #1. Casserly polled 25 GM's and Scouts and he won by a landslide. But he reminds me of Sanchez too.

Unless these rumors are true, in which case the #1 QB on my board (for months) will surprisingly go #1 Overall.

well if true, i would obviously be disappointed..

darnold's ball securities & INTs issues are troubling to me but he would probably be my pick after mayfield.. but the word is the giants won't let him slide past them..

i'm concerned about rosen's health issues & i've read somewhere else, he is one of the least accurate deepball passers of the projected 1st rounders.. not just the big 4..

as far as allen, i've scene & read many creditable factors why he struggled so mightily with his overall accuracy.. still, i can't think of anyone that learned accuracy in the NFL..

do we trade down & get rudolph or jackson??

personally, going defense (again) in the 1st, especially after trading to get a QB would be insane!!

*sigh*

go jets..

not that i want allen (he'd be my 3rd choice), but a certain brett favre had a worse completion % in college (52.4%, closer to 55% if we throw out his freshman year) than allen (56.2%). so i guess favre learned accuracy in college

it's the top story on espn. but we are in smokescreen time of the year, so take everything you read with a grain of salt

If you're going to look at off the field problems, think about poor Josh Rosen.
If he comes to New York, every time he steps outside, he will be swarmed by women yelling, "Are you married?" "Have I got a daughter for YOU".

Not surprised, IMO Mayfield is the best QB in the class. With the Browns QB history it would still be an upset if they went Mayfield over Darnold.

okay Mayfield No. 1 then the Jets hope the Giants take Barkley or Chubb so we get Darnold... As long as we pass on Rosen we good... I just don't see this kid a lifer in the NFL, with all his negative marks... Knowing the type of QB Mike Maccagnan likes wouldn't surprise me that we take Allen...

Yeah but you wanted Lamar Jackson before Baker so should we really trust your rankings??

look at the ones he is responsible for drafting...

Tom Savage, Christian Hackenberg, Bryce Petty only Petty was more of a WC QB the other two are Strong Arm QBs with the boom or bust options... He is 0 for 3 so far, doesn't bode well if he was the only one making this choice... But since the entire organization including interim owner Chris Johnson, they can't all be that daft... can they?

Mayfield to Browns
Darnold to Giants
Rosen to Jets
Allen to whoever trades up to #4 or #5
Which would make the trade up to #3 necessary and a shrewd move by Maccagnan. Keeping next years #1
I feel Rosen may turn out to be the best pro QB of the lot. I'mhoping that is who the Jets draft,no matter what. Second is Mayfield.

Everyone of us: I like Rosen but not Mayfield or I like Darnold but hate Allen or I hope we take Mayfield and not Darnold or Please take Allen, Rosen gets hurt too much, etc.etc,etc. Me, anybody but Mayfield. Well, not Jackson or Rudolph.

This is why I'm not excited about drafting any of these guys. None are a sure thing and the chances of us picking the right one are probably 1-i-in 4 or 2 in 4 at best, because odds are they won't all end up good. Also factor in that 2 May be gone when we pick. Personally barring a trade up, I think only 1 is gone when we pick

I don’t think the Giants are taking a QB. It’s got to be Saquon. They need him badly for Eli. And he’s the best player in the draft.

The consensus seems to be that none of these guys are sure things like Luck or Wentz were. But how often do “locks” at the QB position enter the draft? More often, there is a red flag with all of them. Rarely is a guy perfect.

Like it or not, Macc has no choice. He has to get a FQB. This QB carousel has gone on for too long. We’re not going to win without one. Trent Dilfer isn’t going to come along and defy all the odds for this team.

I get what you are saying but are they doing their due diligence or have they come to some kind of consensus of who they have No.1, No. 2 and No. 3? If so then I am content they have come to some finalization in who they would target and welcome...

But forsakes the information floating out there makes the team happy with the top three on their board but is it a consensus or just content?

Looking at the roster and using the past season as a reference:

Teddy Bridgewater maybe healed to walk but is he capable football shape?
Josh McCown named starter because he was last year, but he ended up on IR...
Do we keep the 3rd year guy or 4th year guy and I will bring this back up later...

So drafting which QB? Do we want the guy that needs 1 year to sit? 2 years to sit? the pro ready accurate, guy that comes with some questions if he loves football enough to be the guy? or do you take the obnoxious, arrogant, short guy that is technically ready to take day one snaps if he can see over the line?

So with the knowledge that our starter last year ended the year on IR and has a history of taking risks that he gets banged up often, are they banking on him to be the starter opening day?

Are they taking a chance on Bridgewater hoping he is healthy and will compete to not only win the starting job but possibly become the starter long term?

If Bridgewater proves he is NOT healthy (Football Shape) they will indeed cut him only losing $500K gtd but opens the door for us to keep either Hackenberg or Petty for at least this year...

So which one tho would we keep? I mean we would then have a 39 year old veteran with no guarantees he make it through the season, and one of tho two other this regime draft selections in Hack or Petty... The reason I say this is who is going ot be the backup because the rookie will likely be third string...

Now if they take one of the two pro ready QBs in this draft either Mayfield or Rosen then technically either one of those two could initially be named the backup with Hack or Petty 3rd string...

Some talk that Allen is literally Maccagnan's type of QB prospect, but now with Mayfield could be the No. 1 overall pick would they attempt to draft Darnold whom is on a lot of team's big boards as the No. 1 Overall because of his ceiling...

As long as the team is on top of things and not going into this draft with one eyed closed I am all for giving whomever it is a chance to prove the naysayers wrong...

As for me I don't covet any one of the Top 8 QBs in this draft but in order of Team breakdown who fits us best:

Darnold if we are confident in Bridgeater/McCown combo...

Rosen if we are not confident in Bridgewater, and expect that McCown will be the starter and Hack/Petty...

Mayfield if Darnold is not on board and we are confident in Bridgeater/McCown combo...

The only problem is we won't know where Bridgewater will be and there is guaranteed who is going No. 1 & No. 2...
