you know who you are. I admit I know a little about him but didn't scout him much thought we had a real shot at mariotta.

In your opinion do you think the petty draft prevents us from looking at cook and hack next draft?

how does petty stack up against those two because I admit I really really really really like hack

if we fall on our face and have a top pick, you still take a potential franchise QB

But, if we have a good or better than good season, I think the presence of Petty likely means that we would not trade UP to get such a guy. In order to have a good season someone must play QB at an adequate level.

I'm a huge Petty fan. More so with the Heartbreakers than with the Traveling Wilburys but to each his own.

I feel like Petty has terrific physical attributes for the NFL and the transition for him is all mental.

Can he learn a complex NFL offense, the multiple checks, reads, audibles and all the rest of it, which is light years away from what he was doing at Baylor, and can he learn to read complex NFL defenses, but to a degree this is true for all college QB's transitioning to the NFL, it will be true for Winston and Mariota as well, its just more true for Petty because the system at Baylor is pretty simple. Its like going straight from fundamental mathematics to advanced calculus.

Its gonna take time and WE FANS won't know for sure if he is THE GUY until 2016 at the minimum, don't even think about seeing him on the field in 2015 once the preseason ends, BUT THE COACHES WILL HAVE A MUCH BETTER IDEA and thats the important part. By the end of this year they will have a pretty good idea if Petty is picking up the system and making genuine progress towards being at least a quality starter in this league.

So to answer your question, we may not know at the end of this year if QB is still our most pressing need, but Mac & Bowles will know, or at least they will have a pretty good idea, and that will determine if we target a QB in RD 1 (Jones, Hack or Cook) or a much needed OFFENSIVE TACKLE, and then draft another QB after RD 1 just to be on the safe side, just in case Petty doesn't workout.

Listen, I am a Petty fan. This is the guy I wanted since the bowl games. But to say this should prevent us from drafting the BPA is completely psychotic. Mac will certainly not let having a QB already in the pipeline prevent us from drafting another truly great option. The cream rises to the top. May the best man win. Competition brings out the best in everyone.

If there's anything that I was taught by Maccagnan in this draft, it was that he is NOT afraid to go out take the BPA regardless of position, regardless if it is a need.

So put your concerns to rest. I think Mac will be fine doing what he deems best for the team.

I agree, if we happen to land a TOP 5 Pick nothing will stop us from drafting a Jones or Hackenberg if we are in a position to take a blue-chip QB prospect of that caliber regardless of how Mac and Bowles feel about Petty's potential.

But that said, I'll be shocked and bitterly disappointed if this team is in a position to draft that caliber of QB next year. I look at this roster now, and the relatively weak schedule we've been dealt, and IMO anything less than 10 WINS for this team is underachieving.

So I think the real question is, will we make the necessary and costly trades to go up and get that caliber of QB next year, and thats where I think the evaluation of Petty's progress comes into play. If the braintrust feels reasonably confident that Petty is the future, they won't feel burdened to make the kind of trade thats required to move up for a franchise QB, but if they are not sold on Petty, they might, because until you find a QB you are just spinning your wheels.
