It's still convenient that you use a certain grading system to bash Brick, but conveniently ignore that the same method says we had a good OL last year, and Breno wasn't a disaster . . .

Did I bash or state he is declining and getting worse every year? I guess that's bashing a player...though the "bashing" shouldn't be such a surprise way to describe a player in his mid 30s...should it?

As for breno, he still sucks...

It's a valid point to say Brick and Mangold are on the decline. They are.

Since finding franchise LTs and Cs is not an easy task, I would try to build the best line around them for now, allowing their veteran leadership to hold down the fort, and then look to land their successors in the draft.

We have been spoiled for some time by these two, not even having to think about those two crucial positions. Well, now may be the time to give it consideration.

Mid thirties? Brick is 31. That seems closer to early 30's. Those are still good years.

And if by "decline" you mean that he's not as good as three years ago, then I agree. But your original post seemed to suggest Ferguson was near the end. That's what I'm disagreeing with. Not based on statistics that can be manipulated. Based on my eyeballs. I watched it all last year, and Brick wasn't the problem. The guard play and Geno had more to do with our offensive ineptitude than D'Brickashaw Ferguson. Inconsistent play at both guard positions (Colon and Winters) plus an overwhelmed QB with limited weapons.

You said he went from Top 5 (elite) to bottom half of the league (below average).

I guess we have different definitions of "bashing" . . .

I think I said top 15 to bottom half of the league...you can call it bashing, PFF calls it statistical fact...

Yet somehow our OL struggled last year and Breno still sucks, despite PFF's "statistical facts".

As I said, convenient . . .

I don't buy stats that say "so-and-so is ranked 30th out of 70". Offensive linemen should be judged by the eyeball test. Far too often, linemen get blamed for things that are the result of the QB holding the ball too long, weak play at other line positions, and other factors which affect pressures and so-called "blown assignments". The truth is in the tape.

Oh, the scientific method known as the eye ball test. If you used that Cutler would be the best QB in the NFL, but somehow he isn't...but blocking and tackling and how many blocks and tackles you miss...don't worry about that. We use the eye ball test...

Sounds like a sound idea...;)

Breno was still bottom half at 51 out of 72, don't get all in your britches proud. That's not a ringing endorsement. But if you want to call them saying our oline was 13 out of 32 as a unit not bad, you're right. It's pretty close to an average oline...slightly above.

It truly all depends where we're positioned in next years draft. If we're top 10 (which i feel there is no way we will be that bad given our roster) then yes, you look to see if you can acquire your franchise QB if Maccagnan feels he's the one. Though if we're picking some where between 17-24 then we would have to give up ALOT to move all the way up. Hell, put it this way:

If it was more than Chip Kelly could handle to unload inorder to give up so much for the QB he coveted, then we'd be in that same boat. We'd have to trade away countless picks and or players as well like Richardson without a doubt.

IMHO, that's not how Mac operates at all during the draft. If its within reach, he'll bite if not, then it's BPA when its our turn.

My personal take on this season given how well this team will be coached and the talent of players that will play disciplined, we wont be in the conversation for Cook, Jones or Hack.
Bryce petty is a smart kid, for the doubters, you guys will be pleasantly surprised once it clicks for him.

If our oline cant block anyone to help our run game and prevent our QBs from getting killed (both Vick and Geno took a beating last year)...+10 wont help. I think it all starts up front. Even Geno looks good with time to throw...but Breno cant get beat like a rug by players like Werner for the Colts who isn't active in the play-offs but rings him up for 2.5 sacks in a quarter...

SUP..respectfully..first..Colts did not play Jets last year in regular season......

Second. and Im doing this from memory .The Jets OL..played a little better than average last year..their big problems was penalties.....but if you go through all 16 games....they played decent to say least.....the games they sucked in was both Bills games....some of Detroit game, some of Oakland game.....they dominated both Miami games ..played very well better than decent in NE games....played OK for 3 quarters against GB.....sucked vs San Diego, played good against KC...decent vs Denver, good against Pitt, good against Chicago...good against Minnesota, good vs Tennessee,...

bottom line.was penalties at very bad times..(NE and GB especially) killed them and Geno's inability to avoid TO's sabatoged the Jets....

Plus Rex of course
