So holding out for your own paycheck is ok, but holding out for your starting qb is selfish? Isn't that the opposite of selfish?

Not sure where the word "selfish" came in - how about "priorities"? (Though the opposite of selfish would be restructuring but of course that's not part of the discussion)

Mo (and Fitz) are putting personal priorities ahead of team prioirities. I don't begrudge either one that right. What is Decker doing? Saying Fitz is more important than the team? More important than Mo? More important than trusting mgmt?

The only way this ends well is if it was all a big misunderstanding. Otherwise I hope he gets ripped to shreds for the decision so it doesn't become a pattern . . .

Like you said agree to disagree.

The report insinuated that this is otas, don't worry, and coach silently welcomes the camaraderie. I don't see this ad being too important one way or the other, it's almost a non story, and no, none of know the inside story.
But it does show me that our veterans see Fitz add more than a hoyer type qb.

It can't be a statement against Geno without being one against management as well. If these guys want management positions when they retire, great. But for now, just do your job . . .

Yes it can. They don't want smith to be on the team, or in a leadership position.

disappointed to hear petty practiced poorly..

where did you get your information??

Tweets thread on another site. His accuracy was off. Not overly concerned, Petty has been referred as "naturally accurate". Hope his nerves aren't getting to him, if he can't beat smith out, he probably won't develop into a franchise QB.

It was May 25. If he's still not accurate in August, we better hope Hackenberg is the real deal.

Yet the FO is apparently open to that idea or what would be the point of not showing up?

To make their feelings clear how they feel on the situation. FO has made it abundantly clear that the moment Fitz walks in the building he will be the starter. From the FO's stand point, this is about money, and nothing more. They are sending a message to the team that they are willing to put an inferior player out on the field over money.

The leaders on the team are sending a message to the FO they are not happy about it. These work outs are VOLUNTARY, as negotiated in the CBA. They choose not to volunteer to catch balls from smith.

With that said I'd bet they will be here next week at the latest , they are just sending a message they want the best chance to win this season.

Voluntary OTA's.

Exactly. Vets miss this week all the time.

Bowles directly told a reporter that Geno is not on the roster bubble . Of course, the Smith haters will say that is just coach speak, and he would say the same for any other returning player. Except.............

Coach Todd Bowles confirmed third-year TE Jace Amaro is on the roster bubble.

The Jets' tight end depth is in a sorry state. Along with Amaro, Kellen Davis and Zach Sudfeld round out the top three. The Jets received a league-low 10 catches from their tight ends last season. It's possible they simply don't plan on using the position, instead opting for an extra tackle in blocking situations or using for receivers. Amaro missed all of 2015 with a torn labrum.

But are you as sure of that as you were that "BPA is out the window"? :)

NFL network is stating from the NY post that a 3 year deal is on the table, with the 1st year at 12 million.
Now the Jets are tight against the cap, someone is getting cut to make room for the 12 million correct??
Now, bring Decker into the office, let him look over the roster and see where the Jets can get the extra money for Fitzpatrick. See who he thinks the Jets should terminate to free up money. Then tell him to go to that person/persons and tell them to pack up their shit, they're out of a job.
I know it happens all the time but never from the player holding out/ making a stand.

yes the jets are against the cap.. that's been common knowledge in jet land for months..

in order to re-sign fitzpatrick (at a realistic #) the plan was always to cut people..

if your point is, this reality sucks for marginal players, i agree.. but as i'm quite sure you know, so do a lot of things in life.....

Would be easy to put this contract together.

6 M base salary, 6M signing bonus which is spread over the life of the contract. Cut smith, +1.3 cut Breno +5. Rework Decker, and maybe Marshall. They'll have extra money

I agree, but the Jets still have to have 53 players. They're not cutting all the bottom of the barrel, they are going to have to cut better players with higher salaries to pay Fitz and then back fill with the lowest paid players. That's how you f up a roster/team. Then us fans will complain how the Jets have no depth and their special teams suck.

They don't have to cut ANY better players.

Ok so how do the Jets get to the 18 million mark that Fitzpatrick supposedly is seeking?
I don't think cutting all the undrafted free agents is going to get them there.
Restructuring is kicking the can down the road.
Pay cuts, D'brickashaw didn't like that idea either.
Would Cromartie be considered the worst CB on this team right now? if the answer is no, then a better player basically got cut to save money.
Salary cap is a big pie and there are only so many pieces. How big of a slice a player gets dictates how much of a slice another player gets.
