Brick Retiring Today After 10 seasons with the Jets

it was the end of season when the movie came out if not mistaken Christmas was the day... there was 2 weeks left in the season, yes he finished the season but he was more self aware about his health and long term effects the game if he continued to play...
You are correct, it was a Christmas release.
November film festival viewing.
There was also a 2013 film of the same name.

Still the timing didn't make sense for him to retire now, unless a pay cut made the situation unbalanced.

To me, the potential pay cut does have something to do with it. At around $15 million for the season, and without past injury, it might be worth continuing to play. But at a lesser salary, the risk may outweigh the reward.

risk reward scenario, to someone like Brick that accumulated over $50 Million over the course of his career and has other interests outside football more than likely wouldn't come back either way... his perception on how the affects of the game would translate to his home life after the game was over, he was more worried that he COULD become more dependent on others rather than exiting now with his health and future still intact... too many players have been sticking around longer than they should, too many what ifs nowadays to take that chance...

the pay cut would of removed about $5 Million at max, decreasing his salary to equal Nick Mangold's 2016 salary of roughly $9 million...

now for the reason they waited is because they didn't want Fitzpatrick to say see you have the money now pay me what I want... I have to believe since they didn't make the roster cut of Breno who had one effin year of pure shyt that there was something else going on... Then they tried to sign free agent K. Beachum but he went else where... Again it opened up the door that he was gone since the seasons end... as for Mehta, and Cimini sometimes they talk out of their a$$es when it comes to drumming up stories... Maybe it was a leak of misdirection by the team, who knows...

some players like Brick are soft spoken but true intelligent players and I am saying this even if the Jets kept him at that salary he was still walking away from the game... he knew when he signed this contract back in 2010 that this year and next year were fluff year(s)... but knowing what he now knows, why risk it??? he has money, he has a family and he has other interests outside football (cooking is one of his hobbies)...

I'm sorry, I thought bricks pay was 10.6 this year, the 9 savings is his non bonus money. I think he would have made much less than 9 is the team forced the issue. He was only estimated to earn 6 on the market, a market in which there are no decent fa LT.

Why would brick stay on board all these months to dick over Fitz?

At this point is all conspiracy theory.

Maybe this isn't a conspiracy by anyone.... brick just had a very difficult decision to make, and he didn't rush to do so. Walking away from the game and $9 million isn't an easy choice.

Actually this draft is deep in tackles good ones can be had in RDs 2 and 3... And honestly think we were going tackle 1st rd all the way if the guy Mac wants is there.. He won't reach for someone especially with the so many good tackles available in this draft
would be a neat trick to draft a starting QB (petty in the 4th) & a starting LT in the second or third..

are there any non 1st round LT's that look to be "plug & play" kind of guys??

Their stock are rising but Jason Spriggs and Germain Fedi are gus that might be there in the 2nd.... But they may go late first early 2nd with their stock going up.....

Weren't the Jets high on Brent Qvale last year?

The remaining list currently on the roster at the possibility of replacing D'brick goes as follows:

Lawrence Okoye

Wesley Johnson

Jarvis Harrison

Dakota Dozier

Also, Keep in mind that Breno Giacomini may be expendable just to create some more cap space.

Think of it, D'bricks departure leaves the Jets with $9.2M in cap space. $5m will go to the rookie class at the end of this month. We still don't have enough to re-sign Fitz unless We either cut or restructure Breno.

Isn't the rookie cap already allocated against the cap? My understanding is the 9.2 Million available is free and clear from the rookies and can be spent on any Free Agents

I am not saying it was Brick screwing over Fitz but the front office keeping their distance from Brick so they can put the squeeze on Fitz themselves knowing where Brick stood...

Brick's contract had prorated bonus of $5 million - total cap would of been $14 + ...

Now there's a rumor out that brick would have played this year at his full price.

Wow I agree with the first part but would need to think about the second....maybe

Jets fans are brutal sometimes. I don't understand exactly what your qualifications are for a borderline Pro Bowl LT. This guy was in the upper echelon of LT's most of his career. He was still a good player until the end. What does he have to do for Jets fans to recognize his accomplishments as a player? He was one of the best OL in recent history for the Jets. That deserves Ring of Honor.

No doubt about it.

I said I got to think about it if you mean me LOL

Marvin Powell is not in & we put brick in.....crazy. Ok we put both in lets load it up with players.

He will go in that is for sure today they put everyone in lets look at the yanks. there will be no numbers left soon.

I want the best to be in & if we don't have the best so be it.......so with me I need to think about it.

I know two Ring members I might not have voted for that are in now but that's me

I never said he would play at full price, I actually said he would of still retired even if the contract was at full price...

No, I didn't mean you. The radio said Mehta was reporting that bricks camp said he would have played if the jets didn't cut his pay.

IMO no hall of fame. He was good but if he watched his films of the last few years.....He knew it was time.

Brick in the Hall & Klecko not....I don't think so

Very good player for a number of years.....But as genesis would say fading lights.

Hey a good guy & Good Jet.....He did walk away lucky

Yup. Thanks Brick. Sadly CTE effects can rear their ugly heads years later so don't know if he is lucky but at least right now he is 'healthy'.
