Can we finally play Petty now to see what he has for the rest of the season!!!

We all saw this Texans game or watching it literally as I'm starting this thread. We all see how horrible the Jets have now become for whatever reason. So I ask you, can we finally start playing Petty now to see what he has being that we will only win about 2-3 more games this season? With or without Fitz this team sucks and this is no shot against Fitz but the Jets as a whole suck.

I stand corrected, unless there was something wrong with Fitz that I or we don't know about he sucked ass today. Well the whole team did but he did his sucking as well. Fitz is not a franchise QB or anywhere near it and he's done his best over the past 10 games but he's starting to show his true colors. Play Petty and let's see what the kid has. We won't win but 2-3 more with either QB so why not play him? He's rode the bench long enough and has had all off-season, training camp, pre-season and 10 regular season games to watch and learn. Let the damn kid play already!

I'd happily see Petty take the reins and see what he can do for the next few games. Fitz will still be a solid back up and great mentor for Petty!

no until we fix this offensive line this off season then give him the chance to win the job. Petty's one problem in college was happy feet, yes he had great accuracy and touch on his throws but got flustered with broken assignments up front...

no Mangold, Breno sucking ass and Winters not much of a pass blocker will have Petty throwing into double and triple coverage trying to force the issue like Fitzpatrick has been doing all season...

Good points, can't argue it but we need some inspiration here. Something to look forward to and cheer about and this Jets team with Fitz ain't it. Maybe Petty will do the trick like Pennington did when he replaced Vinny.

Why not? I hate using past regimes to judge the current one, but the Jets have had tremendous success in the recent past in knowing when to put in young drafted QBs.

Worked for Sanchez and Geno to bring them in early. Why not Petty?

Or, we wait, let him actually get accustomed to learning about NFL schemes, reads, and defenses, and then put him out there when he is really 100% ready, rather than rushing him just because fans are impatient.

When Colon went down the team OL play started to slide... now with Mang out the OL is at best mediocre. Leave Fitz in and let the kid learn... why throw him out there with a OL that is suspect. BTW - no way will bowles make the switch, just my opinion.

One was anointed and the other was handed the job. And both played day one. Petty has sat for 10 weeks to learn. One more loss and the season is over so why not.

why not play gino instead. we think we know what he can do but lets find out for sure. if he get killed by the bad play of the OL we are not losing anything as he will probably be gone next year anyway. give petty the rest of the year to learn from fritz as they sit on the watching gino run for his life.

Because there is virtually nothing to gain, other than satisfying the curiosity of the fan base and the armchair GMs.

If the Packers had made a decision by this point on Aaron Rodgers, he never would have gotten the starting job. He sat for three years.

Seriously, I don't understand the mindset of "why not?" The guy may or may not be a franchise QB, so why not toss him out there now? Well, I ask "why?" Why toss him out there now? What is really to gain?

Cut Geno tomorrow

Make Petty the backup

And let him start the last 4 games to be better prepared to take the helm in 2016

A lot! First, we all get to see if the kid has what it takes be our franchise guy. He may not be lights out and understandably so but if he has it, we'll all see signs of it. As long as he doesn't get injured, I believe he is mentally tuff enough to deal with the ups and downs of the season. If he's not then he shouldn't be a NFL QB period!!! Second reason, sometimes teams need a spark to get their season back on track. Not saying is that but who's to say he ain't? Just like what Pennington did for the Jets when he replaced Vinny, maybe Petty can do the same here. Third, I'm reading a lot that people are posting the Jets should draft another QB this year and then every year after that until they get one. Well I think we can all agree with that 100% if we atleast saw what Petty was about first. Last, the Jets have nothing to lose here being that you ask what is there to gain. The Jets are not going to the playoffs anyway and if they do, they will be a first round exit so give the kid a chance and the experience. Let's see what he can do on the job!!!

You may disagree and that's fine, so I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree and it seems we will both have Jets fans siding with us. So let the debate began, LOL!

I hate to disagree with the sentiment of this thread, but for the 1st time this year I do believe a QB change is warranted, but I believe Geno should get the start.

At 5-5, the Jets are still alive for a WC berth. I think the reason we are having so much trouble running the ball is that the opposing team has disregarded our down field vertical game. I would start Geno to see if he can jump start this team, ignite our offense and determine if it's worth bringing him back next season.

You may be right here with you argument. I don't think we lose much here and it will be a game or two before Petty gets a shot (if we lose out).

This to me is the top reason that Petty should get game time at some point this season - presumably when the CS/FO believe that a playoff place is out of reach!

I'd be against us giving up LOADS to move up to draft a QB if we have our guy already here - I get that you can't have enough talent at that position, but of Petty shows up well, then Fitz could be an able back up for the next 2/3years to ensure Petty grows into the role!

Oh, I'm fine agreeing to disagree. And I respect your opinion, even if I do not share it.

That said, unless Petty is truly 100% ready, you really won't find out about him by putting him out there. What you may find is that he is not ready yet, and you tossed him into the deep end without him knowing how to swim yet. Could that keep him from ever learning to swim? Maybe, maybe not. But I don't think it's worth the risk.

I want to see Petty out there when he is truly ready, 100% ready, and we can get an honest evaluation. I don't know if that is the case right now.

And truthfully, I am not about to sacrifice the slow, deliberate development of this kid all for the sake of a possible wild card spot and one extra weekend of football in January.

I get it. Your angry and frustrated. So am I.

Look at what you just wrote. "We all see how horrible the Jets have now become for whatever reason."

Do you really want to throw a promising rookie, from an air raid offense, into that? In three weeks, if the entire team is still playing like a night mare, you'll be wanting to call Petty a bust, and move on.

Fitz was a part of it, but he didn't lose this game today. There is no QB on the Jets that would have performed any better under the assault Fitz was under today. Some body forgot to tell Breno, and Brick, there was a game today.

with only two wr, no te, and a hit and miss running game I don't throw petty out there. I let fitz finish up and then cut gen or trade him for some m&m's in the off-season.
