According to report, Kacy Rodgers is safe, though. Bowles has been heavily involved in the defense, so I wonder if he's gonna hand over the reins entirely to Kacy Rodgers.

Can't believe that Rodgers is safe. He called the plays in late December. That is when we stunk at most

The Jets announced today that offensive coordinator Chan Gailey is retiring and Todd Bowles informed five coaches that they will not return: QBs coach Kevin Patullo, RBs coach Marcel Shipp, DL coach Pepper Johnson, OLBs coach Mark Collins and DBs coach Joe Danna.

“I informed Coach Bowles prior to the 2016 season that I would retire after this season,” Gailey said in a statement. “I thought it was best to tell him early, so that he could begin to think about how he would move the team forward on offense. While we did not have the season we all wanted to have, I think there are some great people here at the Jets and in the New York/New Jersey area. I wish them all the best moving forward.”

Gailey, who also worked as an offensive coordinator with Kansas City, Miami and Pittsburgh, had NFL head-coaching roles with the Buffalo Bills (2010-12) and the Dallas Cowboys (1998-99). After playing collegiately at Florida from 1971-73 and spending two years as a Gators graduate assistant, Gailey was an assistant coach at Air Force and Troy. He also served as head coach at Troy (1983-84), Samford (1993) and Georgia Tech (2002-07).

In 2015, Gailey coordinated an offense that amassed a franchise-record 5,925 yards and scored 387 points, the most in a season since 1998.

“I’m grateful to Chan for joining our coaching staff and enjoyed working with him,” said Bowles. “The respect that I have for him as a person and a coach only increased during our time together.”

Patullo, Shipp, Johnson, Collins and Danna each were on Bowles’ staff for the past two years.

“I appreciate all of their hard work and commitment and wish them the best,” said Bowles.

This speaks more about Bowles than it does about them.

How do these changes effect our young QBs?

The good news is Hackenberg wasn't worked with all that much this year... We need a QB guru kind of guy as the OC to develop the young guys... I am all for McCoy after he was fired from the Chargers

I'm okay with McCoy. He seems like a very good offensive coach. My hope is that Bill O'Brien gets canned and then signs with us as an OC. We all know that Bowles will fail next year. He could possibly take the reigns the following year.

For Hackenberg they worked all year on mechanics and footwork...

Hack didn't really get comfortable with this playbook as he ran the scout team...

Means he is a clean slate for whomever comes in.... Redshirted (Limited)...

Thats why they didn't even want to dress him for the final game, is because he was wet behind the ears...

They would of had to call the plays tell him where his hot read was going to be and do everything for him except throw the ball if he came into the game... If they truly knew Gailey's intentions this was the smartest move/play the Jets/Bowles did for the rookie allowing him NOT to overwhelm him by learning Gailey's play book then knowing he would have to start all over again next year with a new offensive coordinator...

There was an article early last week saying they didn't work on Hacks Mechanics at all this year and the plan was for this offseason... Now not saying this was a smart move but it makes sense to not work with Hack if Gailey was planning on retiring this year. Why work with him if there is gonna be a question on who will be the OC next year...

The defense was horrible and unachieved! He should have been the first one axed.

He's a YES man. Bowles called most of the shots. Firing Rodgers would be equivalent to firing Toilet Bowles!

If that's the case then he isn't qualified to have the job anyway. He still needs to be fired and Bowles needs to hire a DC who can get the job done

Wow, I didn't know that. This is even worse than I thought. Along similar lines, why was former LB Pepper Johnson coaching the D line? I recall that Rex had a similar situation. I can't remember who it was, but I'm pretty sure that he had a defensive back coaching the D line. Dennis Thurman? What is wrong with these coaches? Do they have dentists do their knee surgeries?
