Did they forgot to mention the Special Teams Coach?
I'd make a joke that instead of making a decision, they punted.
But they probably would have fumbled the snap.

I have no issue with Folk or Edwards. Both should return as our Kicker and Punter. And the coverage teams were decent this year. The issue I have is with the return game. We could not ever seem to do anything beyond a fair catch or very minimal gain on punts. This was huge this season. I don't know how many times we received a punt and did absolutely nothing in terms of giving the offense favorable field position. Nothing. Zilch.

We had to be the worst team in the league in that category. I don't know how anyone could be worse.

Can we find a freakin punt returner next year? And maybe some blockers?

Wow, I didn't know that. This is even worse than I thought. Along similar lines, why was former LB Pepper Johnson coaching the D line? I recall that Rex had a similar situation. I can't remember who it was, but I'm pretty sure that he had a defensive back coaching the D line. Dennis Thurman? What is wrong with these coaches? Do they have dentists do their knee surgeries?

pepper johnson had a lot of experience coaching the d-line. some guy named bill belichick switched him from LB coach to d-line coach in 2004 and kept him there for 8 years.

i personally was very happy when the jets hired him to replace dunbar (although i would have happily kept dunbar but he chose to follow rex to buffalo). johnson had a very good reputation as a coach and was seen as a future head coach. now given the talent on the d-line and the performance of the unit, it's hard to argue with his dismissal. but he was one guy on the staff i was surprised didn't work out.

johnson's been a career position coach.. i'm not sure if he's ever been on anyone's short list to even be a DC much less a HC..

not saying your information is incorrect, BTW.. all i'm saying is he's apparently hit his ceiling & it was clearly time to cut ties with him here..

His in-season press conference where he was extremely un-cooperative may have been an indication of much larger problems within the team and coaching staff. Hard for me to believe that Pepper Johnson, with his Belicheck background would tolerate all of the Wilkerson/Richardson missed/late for meeting issues. PJ may have been a constant vocal reminder to Rodgers and Bowles that they weren't doing their jobs, thus the reason for his dismissal. I would love to know what really went on behind the scenes because the manner in which the defense fell off the cliff is indicative of major problems. Regardless, the recent firings as well as the news of a divisive/toxic locker-room environment reflect very negatively on Bowles' leadership.

he interviewed with the giants to be DC before they hired spagnola. but maybe saying future HC was a little too optimistic as you are right he hadn't yet been a coordinator. but he was well regarded by belichick and had a very good d-line with the bills under marrone before rex went there and replaced him with dunbar. so at the time the jets hired him, he was very well regarded as a d-line coach.

The one thing I did not consider was that the Rodgers/Bowles relationship became a source of frustration for Johnson. I'm guessing obviously, but perhaps PJ questioned KR's authority or knowledge thus creating a situation where the lack of unity among the coaches was reflected on the field.

Who in the heck is going to want to come here and coach with Bowles who's basically under a one year contract to perform, has a team that needs talent in a lot of places, has no clear path to a starting QB and has Brady/Bellichick in the same division. Anyone who's in demand would have this job very low on their list. We are going to have to most likely settle for second tier folks. Hate to be the bearer of bad news but Woody/Mac have boxed themselves in a corner with keeping Bowles.

you raised some excellent points..

but i can see an former offensive HC or a top level OC taking the open OC job..

with bowles coaching for his job next season, our next OC very well might be our next HC..

keeping bowles seems to be completely on johnson.. with the ass backwards chain of command, who's to say johnson even asked maccagnan's opinion on bowles??

& for what it's worth, as i'm quite sure you/all of us know, bowles is very well regarded by parcells..
