Because he makes lots of plays, 85 receptions, at 15 ypc, or the same ypc as Dez, Demarius Thomas, and Julio Jones....he a consistent big play WR.

I get that he is coming off a big year but it was in chip kellys offense. Can he do that in a normal offense? What did he do before this year? I know he made plays here and there but is often been hurt.

What I'm not get is why people are saying he is a clear #1 but Cobb is just a #2 . What makes Maclin better when they have comparable stats?

Maybe, he is a 14 ypc WR for his career and last year was the second time in his career he's had double digit TDs...he's also only 26. You have to think a 26 year old with 343 career receptions and 36 career TDs having a career year coming off knee surgery is in for a big pay day. last year was a career year, but I'd argue that was because DJax was no longer an Eagle and he shifted from #2 to #1 WR...so I dont think it is fair to compare his #1 WR stats with his #2 WR stats playing with DJax...

I'd take Cobb over Maclin. But based on my opinion of our WR group I think we could benefit from Andre Johnson more. He's a solid #1 and has created a name for himself behind numerous mediocre QB's. He and Decker could be a good tandem with Kerley or Harvin in the slot.

Confused, is your proposal for the Jets to have the following WRs: Cobb, Decker, Andre Johnson, Kerley, and harvin?

Really? He is 34 and is surely on the way down. He is out of Houston because of a decreased role. He has little left. If the Pats want to pay that crazy money for him I'm all for it.
Actually he had his only "down" year last year. People don't take into account who had been throwing to him other than Schaub and Fitzpatrick in his earlier years there (who have struggled themselves but for some reason they aren't "down"). The Texans have had a new QB every other year if not every year. Just in the last 2 years I can count 4 different QBs he's had to deal with. Andre Johnson is still recognized as a good pickup if you need a #1 or 2. From what I can see it seems as thought everyone is writing him off because they didn't hear his name in headlines every week last year, which is ridiculous. I can't even hold his age against him because last year people were saying the same thing about Steve Smith being old and look at what he did.

I didn't see they were franchised.... I would think getting one of these guys would change our draft thoughts....

What do you guys think?

Make the trade for Foles, and sign Maclin
Instant legit offense
Add Sproles if released

No.... If you read it again it says Cobb over Maclin but I'd prefer Andre Johnson given we need a #1 . Cobb is a slot but we already have Kerley OR Harvin (depending on what happens with Harvin) so we don't exactly need to go spend big money on another slot receiver. I chose one receiever and kept in mind who we already have.

I used to love Andre Johnson..but at his age and his injury prone-ness I would pass...unless the money was basically nothing

For the money..i would rather keep Harvin..injury prone a bit also..but a lot younger

All of the WR mentioned in this thread are injury prone. Maclin, Cobb, Johnson, and Harvin. Looking past that is what prompted my choice on which Receiver but I can see why that's an issue for most people.

Andre Johnson had 80+ catches for 900+ yards in 2014. Thats impressive for a guy on his "decline". If he's not a starter than I dont know what is. If he can do that with mediocre QBs then Im interested in what he can do with an elite one.

Where are we going to get one of those?

Never did I say we would have an elite QB. There are none available. That wasn't about the Jets, I was making a case for Andre Johnson. The point was that if he can do that with a mediocre QB then he still has some left in the tank, and with an elite QB people (in this forum) would be singing a different tune about Andre Johnson. As far as the Jets go, IF he did come here he wouldn't hurt the team. He had more yards last year than any receiver on this team and supposedly he's too old or he's running out of juice.

Cobb was never a free agent and was just re-signed by GB for 10M. Maclin hasn't reached FA yet either.

Cobb reportedly turned down 6 other offers, and a considerably higher offer from another team. Thereby refuting the idea that money always talks. He could've been richer, and saw that Aaron Rodgers would still be throwing him the football.

It isn't always about money.

Not with AARON RODGERS ITS NOT ABOUT MONEY....I give the kid a little respect...great pay anywhere...but took the sure QB.....you want to chance Carr, Bortles, etc
plus the kid is young enough could get another big deal...its only a 4 yr deal...

Torrey Smith and Maclin should be smiling real big, because now those are the top WRs and Oakland needs to burn some of that $65 mill in cap space...Smith could go get a lot of money right now if he gets out of Baltimore.
