Current Draft Order

nice display of draft order and info

And the good news is that only 3 of the teams ahead of us are in dire need of a QB, so, there is no reason that we shouldn't draft a decent QB this time around. I stress the word "decent " because you never know for certain that a good college QB will turn out to be a good NFL QB. Players acquired through the draft are always a gamble. Because of this, if it were me I might even draft 2 if I had the opportunity and the picks but not forgetting the team has other needs as well. Our "O" line still needs work. A stellar left tackle would be nice and at least one more good running back, and, our defense could use some help deep in the backfield along with a couple of good edge rushers.

Well, Rams are resting some players against the 49ers, Maybe San Fran pulls out a win and the Jets move up.
Texans are playing the Colts too maybe they'll get a W. That'll put them at 5 wins. Don't know how the SOS plays out and if the Jets jump ahead of them with both teams at 5 wins.
Chiefs at the Boncos
Saints at Tampa
Two upsets there and the Jets are looking good.

It will be very interesting to see how Mayfield plays in the college playoffs. If he plays well against the better defense he'll be facing, he may make himself a top 5 pick. On the other hand, if he measures under 6' at the combine, some teams will be hesitant to draft him. It will be very interesting as well to see how Josh Allen practices before and plays in the Senior Bowl. Scouts place a great deal of value in that week.
I agree Mayfield could play his way up in the draft with 2 good games in the College Playoffs. Maybe as high as top 3 QB. He is also playing in the Senior Bowl which could help his draft stock as well.
i bet he measures just under 6 ft at the combine.

Allen is supposed to make his decision regarding the senior bowl after January 1st. I don't know why he hasn't said yes all ready unless he is confident that Denver is going to take him with their first pick. There have been reports stating that Denver really wants him and Elway has been struggling several of his games and his bowl game. Playing can only improve his draft stock.

So if all the teams that are 5-10 like the Jets lose this week, will the draft order stay the same? Or will the strength of schedule thing move the positions around?

According to Tankathon.com just recently updated we are now at number 7 pick. With only 3 teams likely to take a QB with their 1st pick ahead of us we are in pretty good shape. We could actually wind up with Rosen if we want him, not 100% sure I do, because the Browns GM has publicly said that he doesn't want him. They appear to be considering Darnold. Another GM, unnamed said the same thing for the same reason, personality and leadership issues. Rumor has it that the Giants are interested in Jackson and that Denver is interested in Mayfield. If it goes down that way it would give us Rosen or Allen. All of these guys are in the top 5. We have a shot at a top 5 pick no matter which way it unfolds. I'm not keen on Jackson because his passing ability leaves a lot to be desired but I'd settle for any of the others no problem.

Lets say that we are one of the four teams picking a qb in the top ten. If true the

Odds are

one will be great or good
Two will be good or avg
One will be avg or poor

If we are the 4th team taking a qb the odds are we will get a good , avg or poor qb. The other teams better make a mistake or two.

Now We really need a qb that will be in the top 8 to 10 in the league within three years of this years draft. maybe two of this years draft will end up in that group

The odds are still against us.

Big mac needs help from other teams (make mistakes) & .he needs to hit a Home Run..

My figures say we have a 20% chance of getting the Qb we need.

It certainly wouldn't hurt to have the football Gods looking out for us because as I mentioned any of those picks are a gamble. Our pick, whoever it is, could turn out to be great, my preference, or good, or just decent, which would still be better than a bust like we've picked in the past. Of course, if we don't improve the "O" line as well it will be a difficult situation anyway.

Well that makes two of us that understand that getting one of the top 5 QBs doesn't come with any guarantee of a franchise QB, but, will possibly put us in better shape than we are now. I think we will still need a vet from free agency until he learns the system. It might wind up being McCown again as his wrist will be healed by then and there's no denying that he did his part and he has a good relationship with the players and already knows the system.

I'll try my question one more time, since the first time I got no answers. If all the teams with 5-10 records lose this week, will their relative draft positioning stay the same? Or is it possible for the strength of schedule to change based on who beats them, and thus change the draft positioning? My main interest in this is I have a bet with a Bears fan on which of our teams will draft higher. Right now both teams are 5-10, and both are expected to lose this week. If they do both lose, will the Jets pick ahead of the Bears, or is it possible the Bears will pick first?

As I understand it, the strength of schedule is a set thing that the League determines after the end of the season, not a set thing like they've determined it prior to the season? I have no idea if what I am telling you is correct, just giving you my own understanding of the process. So in this case, if both the Jets and Bears finished 5-11 after this week the league would put whoever had highest strength of schedule drafting with the highest pick available for 5-11 teams?

Here's a link that explains the whole process. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Football_League_Draft

Thanks for the replies guys. I found a commentary on another Jet fan site where the guy seemed to pretty much know what he was talking about. According to his analysis, at this point it is impossible for the Bears to win a tiebreaker with the Jets. So as long as both teams lose or both win this week, the Jets should pick higher than the Bears. That is, if the guy knows what he is talking about.

I really hate to say it because I hate cheating but I think we should start a video library of every teams signals and get a direct phone line to the booth officials. We have a better chance with this tactic then we do of ending up with the right qb in this draft.

Add a tremendous oline and a qb picked in the 6th round and we can win the next 20 Superbowls. It's a tried and true method. I've seen it somewhere before

?

Looks like the Browns, Giants (definitely) and Broncos (maybe) will be drafting ahead of us and they all need QBs. Darnold and Rosen will most likely go one and two. Which leaves the Broncos to either Allen or Mayfield. Then should come us and who knows who will be left and what the Jets will do then.

Kansas City is starting Mahomes at QB against Denver.
Hopefully that'll give the Broncos the W.

plus another team may always trade up (az) etc

Another team trading up is really the only way we don't get the chance at one of the top 5. If that happens we could still have a shot at Mason Rudolf who was impressive in the 3 games I watched or Lamar Jackson. I believe that if the Jets are going to pick a QB in this draft, and they had better, we will still wind up improving our QB situation.

If we draft Mason & he stinks....we will need to fire you too :global (14): LOL I don't follow the college game so Rudolph or Rudolf does not mean anything to me.....Well i guess I could tell by his red nose. But the Gm better get it right
