I am throughorly convinced this franchise is the place where old washed vets come to die, EVENTUALLY!!! They don’t die immediately because it seems to be the place they come and mysteriously their careers get re-energized. Whether they were ever excellent QBs in the first place or just reject backups holding onto their NFL careers. They come to this team and automatically they become what they once were or never was and that hasn’t panned out well for this franchise.

Testerverde we came very close to true success but didn’t pan out. By the way he never really lived up to his talent in the NFL prior to becoming a Jet. Farve is a first ballot and played like a beast franchise guy his entire career for the most part. Came to the Jets and if he wouldn’t of gotten hurt who knows but he did. Odonell was a guy who had some success in Pittsburgh but was just tagging along mainly. Came to the Jets and flopped. Fitzpatrick and now McCown were always backups just simply surviving and now they come here and blow up. For the first year but the second Fitzpatrick flopped and so will McCown.

Point being here is this all a mirage with McCown and the Jets will be dumb enough to drink the water. Their already dumb to keep playing him when we clearly aren’t making the playoffs. Even if they won 9 games, which they won’t it won’t be enough to make the playoffs. But the Jets will continue to play him and think he’s the answer next year like they did with Fitzpatrick and it will fail.

The Jets appear to be a cursed franchise because only cursed franchises fall for shit like this. Only cursed franchises will take the bait that they don’t really need to find a young franchise QB. They will continue to go with these retread vets without drafting and starting immediately that franchise guy. Or drafting and developing that franchise guy. Don’t get me wrong, they have tried it but it just hasn’t worked out like it did with other franchises like Dallas, GB, NE, Giants, Pittsburgh, LA (both teams), Seattle, Phila, Oak, Houston etc-etc...

Point being, it has happened with majority of the league except for a few teams and the Jets are one of them. What makes it worse for the Jets is they can’t even do it right. If your going to suck then just suck!!! No, they will fight to very end for that 5-11 or 7-9 record just to not make the playoffs anyway and not be able to draft that franchise QB without giving up the farm for them. Or even worse, that franchise QB will be staring them right in the face and they won’t draft him, Dak for someone like Hack and we see how that turned out. That is just one example but there are many more. The closest the Jets ever come to doing it correctly was Testerverde and Pennington but injuries killed that.

IMO the Jets are a cursed franchise and may never break it. So they won today, so what!!! What exactly is that supposed to mean but a 5-7 record and a lost hope for a season that will fail regardless. I’m not just being a Debbie downer here, I’m speaking facts and you guys know it. This team will not make the playoffs, so why the hell are they playing McCown and not the younger QBs? It makes absolutely no sense and I’m just so done with this damn team. I’m so sick and tired of this team, I just don’t know what to do anymore!!!

You know that I agree with you. Reason being , is because this is the Jets and they have never done anything right. Just a bunch of random thoughts:

If there is such a thing as a cursed franchise then the Jets are certainly it

if you really can sell your soul, then certainly Namath did so. And I'll go one further, Namath sold his soul for the 1 superbowl victory and forever cursed the franchise. When belichick was approached for his soul he discussed it with Namath and Namath told him to make sure he gets a multi year deal. If we someday see belichick, drunk, at halftime of an NFL game being interviewed and he offers to kiss the commentator then we will have our proof of this

When this season started, anyone who has watched the Jets for years should have known that McCown was going to have a career year and repeat the whole Fitzpatrick fiasco. If he holds out for big bucks next season like Fitzpatrick did, will the Jets pay him and then watch him play like crap next season? Of course they will. this is the Jets.

That said. McCown seems like a good guy so I wish him well. But the sad fact is -we will not be winning the superbowl while he is here. It's not his fault. It's just his age and the timing of things.

Some guys here, (GMF), believe we are building things correctly now. Maybe we are, but because this is the cursed Jets franchise that we have all watched fail for almost 50 years, it's hard to believe that it's true.

As a long time Jet fan it's easier for us to believe that this year is a fluke. There is a very good chance that we have won a few games this season because the team has a chip on it's shoulder. No one wants to be told they will lose 16 games. Are we building with young talent or are we beating a few not so great teams because we want to prove everyone wrong?

Next season, we will expect improvement on this season and if we truly are building things correctly, then we will see that improvement. If we are the same old Jets, then we will have the same old record next season as usual.

As a pessimistic Jet fan, I believe that the team is shooting for the draft pick right after the playoff teams, you know, the unlucky pick 13. After 40 some years of mediocrity, it's hard to imagine otherwise.

If you put the curse aside and want to be positive about things(I don't know how you can do this as a Jet fan), then maybe things do look better. We seem to have some young talent. We have won more games then anyone imagined(although for me I expect the Jets every year to be between 6-10 and 10-6 and usually closer to 6-10). I will believe in this system when and only when they address the oline. Parcells came here , and one of the first things he did was bring in Mawae. Mawae made Vinny look like a hero. belichick brought his oline coach out of retirement because he knows the importance of giving your qb time. Does anybody really think brady would be what he is today if he didn't have time to write a book while standing in the pocket waiting for someone to get open, since day 1 of his career?

The sad fact here, is that belichick isn't ever going to change the way he does things and the NFL, I believe is done trying to stop him from cheating, so right now is a good time to be re building because the next bunch of superbowls are already won by the cheatahs. They will hold every single record before they are done.

My neighbor is a former NFL player . I was talking to him yesterday at our town tree lighting. He doesnt admit to being a cheatah fan but he goes to alot of their games. Surprisingly, he agrees with my rants about the cheatahs. He said , watch belichick in the first half of games, he's watching the other sideline and writing things down. Stealing the signals for use in the second half. He says the things belichick does are not cheating, just bending the rules. My point to him is that rules are insinuated. The rule book shouldn't have to point out things like "don't dress guys in NFL films clothing and send them out to tape other teams signals". The rulebook only states that "the air pressure in the footballs has to be correct at the time of testing". It doesn't state that you can't take the balls into the bathroom and deflate them after the testing. But as long as the rulebook doesn't spell out what is cheating, belichick will do whatever he can to bend the rules in his favor. and until other coaches have the same attitude then belichick will remain ahead of the pack.... so our good old Jets have plenty of time to rebuild because belichicks not that old yet.

I too am not watching much football this year. I do watch most of the Jet games when they are on tv here but I watch them with no emotion what so ever. I don't have every teams record memorized or have a good idea of the wildcard outlook, because it doesn't matter. I know without watching any games, who will be 14-2 at seasons end. I know that without Peyton around that there is no competition in the AFC and that the cheatahs will have an easy ride to another superbowl. I know that there are a bunch of NFC teams that are a little better then average and that they will beat each other up in the playoffs and whoever gets to the superbowl will be happy to get there but will not be up to the challenge of beating a team that knows every one of their plays before they run them.

As for our Jets rebuilding I'll agree with my buddy. When building a winning team, you first build a defense , then an offensive line, and then the rest will fall into place. Can and will the Jets do this? History says "no" Optimism says "we will see". But remember, the defintion of " insanity" is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome. Isn't that what we do as Jet fans?

Exactly, but I'd reverse the order, OLine before DLine, because if you're controlling the ball, the defense has a chance to rest. A good DLine, and even if you get a 3 and out, the (lesser) offense is back on the field for their own 3 and out. As others have said, there have been some bright spots this year. That can happen. But to sustain winning, you have to build units. The only units that have shown promise are the safeties and the receiving corps. Other than that, it has been individual efforts.

Yes that is what Jets fans do and I don’t know why but we do it. Guess were no different then Browns fans really!!! You are right that optimism would lead us all to hope they do the right thing here but realism tells us what’s really going to happen. My thought process know is until the Jets prove me wrong and show me they will do the right thing, I won’t expect nothing less from them. Not only will I not expect any less but I won’t even watch them play. Until we get a franchise QB, whatever they do IMO will mean nothing. Absolutely nothing!!! Sorry for those that disagree but after 35 years of being a Jets fan, I have come to this conclusion and won’t change my mind on this.

Giants just fired their HC and GM after that BS fiasco with Eli and everything else they’ve done. That’s a franchise that’s about their business and won’t allow themselves to fall into the curse. They won’t allow themselves to be a laughing stock like the other team sharing the stadium with them. Take notes Jets, this is what a real franchise does and how they handle business correctly. Maybe I should become a Giants fan now. I mean I was born and raised in NYC so it would makes sense. Then again, I’ve been a dumbass Jets fan for the past 35+ plus years and I just can’t turn my back on them like that. Especially for the hated Giants!!!

My Jet fandom is sadder than most. My father is a Giants fan. When I was very young, I knew he loved football but I didn't pay attention to what team he rooted for. I went to a book fair and knowing my father was a big football fan, I picked out a football book. Of course it was about Joe Namath. Ever since i have been a Jet fan first and Giant fan second but as life got busier with family, I really only had time for 1 game a week and it has always been the Jets. Very bad decision at a very young age. Should have paid more attention to what my father was doing and then my team would have been the only team to save the superbowl from the clutches of evil. and twice at that. and that's only 2 of their superbowls. how many superbowls have the Jets won since I read that Namath book? The entire football world knows the answer to that question.

I understand your want for the franchise qb and I won't say that I disagree but I will say this. A mediocre QB can win the superbowl behind a great Offensive line but not to many great qb's can win a superbowl behind a bad offensive line

I'm for just letting Petty and Hackenberg play. Lets see what we have. Let them play! If they don't pan out, sign a good FA or trade up in the Draft. We have 3 picks in the first 3 Rds. QB is our #1 priority for many years.

We actually have 3 picks in the first two rounds. However, the Seahawks pick will probably be a low second, pretty much a third.

In 1978, fans of the New York Giants were convinced their team was a cursed franchise. They hadn't made the playoffs in years. They hadn't whiffed at an NFC championship game. Remember THE Fumble? Their drafting was about the worst in the league. And they had a meddling owner. Yes, Mara was meddling. Then the league stepped in and forced the G-men to hire George Young who took control of the franchise. His first few drafts were nothing special, but he got better. Eventually he drafted LT and a year later they were on their way. Young built that team through the draft not unlike Mac is trying to do now.

To think that losing games would benefit this team is just ridiculous. I see a team developing around Todd Bowles. He benched two of their best (ok, better) players yesterday and the team rallied around their coach. They fought like hell and they won. I give Bowles a ton of credit for benching those guys and showing leadership.

This year's rookie class is about the best I've seen for the Jets. Mac's pickups (ASJ and Kony Ealy) have been like adding an additional first and second round pick. UDFA Robbie Anderson was brilliant. Mac will have more than $90mm in cap space. Signing ASJ, Claiborne (if he stays healthy the rest of the year), and Ealy should reduce that to around $75mm. Most importantly, players are going to want to play for this team next year, especially on defense. If I'm a top rated cornerback, I would want to play with the Jets safeties and defensive line. Ditto for an OLB. And IF Mac hits another grand slam in the 2018 draft, there will be high expectations for this team. The difference between this year's team and Mac's first year team is that the biggest contributors on this team are from young players, with the obvious exception of QB. There will be free agent QB's and second round choices to improve that position.

The youngsters will only get better, especially Adams, Maye, McGuire, Donohue and most likely Stewart and Hansen. This team is starting to develop an identity and for that there is reason for hope.

You are right that a mediocre QB or QBs have won SBs with great olines but since 1990 there have been very few to do it. Don’t know the number but very few QBs to do it. Hear is my thinking, the Jets have tried it the mediocre QB way numerous times ever since Namath and it hasn’t worked. Can we atleast for once try it the other way and see what happens?

Yes with Testerverde he was a above average QB with a great oline that the Jets should won a SB but it didn’t happen. Odonell was a average QB with a decent oline and no ring. Then you have Farve a great QB with a excellent oline that it might have happened but Farve got hurt. Pennington was a above average QB with a great oline but injuries killed those chances and then there is Sanchez, a below average with a great oline and two failed tries.

So we’ve tried that way numerous times and no SB. So can we atleast few once in my lifetime try it the other way and see what happens?

I’m with you but I’ve been saying start the young QBs since week one. What do or did they have to lose? Of course we all had the frame of mind they were a 1 win team max but of course the Jets didn’t. However; you can’t tell me they actually thought this was a playoff caliber team. With that said and I think that statement is a fair one, why not start the younger QBs to see what they have. Evaluate them along with the rest of the young team to figure if either of them could be our guy.

They could have started Hack the first 6 games and if he absolutely flopped then it’s Petty’s turn for 6 games. If Petty then flopped then the last four games they could have gone back to Hack to see if he learned anything or just went to McCown. Mccown should have strictly been on the team to mentor the younger QBs. Yes I’m sure most will say TB couldn’t afford to think that way because it’s win now or get fired. With the team they gave him to work with this should have been a mulligan year just to rebuild and evaluate.

I think Mac knows that the objective is to get better. I also do not believe he's drinking the Kool Aid this time either. Regardless, of if he keeps McCown or not Mac will select a QB. I'm certain of it. Either through FA, trade, or the draft there will be a new QB in NY. Mac's not going to get any more chances to select QB's after this season IMO. If he decides not to select a QB next April and a few turn out to be franchise guys, Woody's going to want to know why Mac passed on them? He'll be looking at Deshaun Watson also?

I'm convinced if he doesn't select a QB this time around and the guy doesn't work out, Mac will never get any more chances. Mac will decide he's a good GM, but not a good enough GM to get the Jets to the promised land? He'll start comparing him to all the other GM's that were ultimately failures in NY. What will set Mac apart will be him selecting that franchise guy and after two failed attempts Woody I'm sure is growing a little impatient

I agree with this... I think there is no doubt the Jets will take a QB in the draft in RD1. I also believe Mac goes all in for a QB so if he has to trade up to get his guy he will. At this point if I am the Jets I package. This years #1, #2 #5 and Next years #1 and Throw in MO to the Browns for the #1 Overall .. Is that enough? IDK all I know whatever we give up to move up I'll be ok with. This is a QB driven league and McCown is the reason we are 5-7 sith how good he has played but McCown has also been the reason we are 5-7 instead of 7-5 or 8-4 with some seriously bad play in the 4th qtr in several games.

I don't see the browns skipping on a qb again. They've been burned by not taking wentz and now Watson. They can't not take a qb. Unless kizer goes off these last few weeks.
Only real problem with trading up for the top qbs is right now 1 and 2 are the browns and the giants. Who will most likely take the top 2 qbs, being rosen and darnold. I don't know if we offer the moon in picks if they will give up their slot???

And I agree. I would give up anything to ge the qb. I don't think eagle fans are upset with the load of picks they gave up to get wentz to philly. If the qb pans out, its worth it. with so much cap space we can address many needs in free agency.

I see your point.

I think the Giants will trade out.. I think they may start to think hey we need picks and we need to get an OL around Eli, he has 3-4 years left. And they may believe draft picks and taking a QB at 10-13 wherever we are is the best long term solution for the Franchise. I agree the Browns would be idiots to pass on a QB at 1 but again they may thing they can get a QB with the #1 pick we give them or their 2nd #1 pick and both might be in the top 10.

I get the franchise QB sentiment, but I don't think this is a mirage. This team has talent and is developing. We can all see it.

In terms of this draft - There's no Peyton Manning, Eli Manning or Andrew Luck in this class. All the "top" QBs have issues, some physical, some mental, some character based. It's a deep class, but no can't miss prospects either.

IMO, The Jets need to continue to draft the best players, and when the opportunity comes along to grab the QB you want, you take them. If that happens in this draft early, great. If not, ok, continue to build the roster. After watching this season, and seeing this team start to develop, they're not that far away. And McCown has played great this year. Certainly in the top half of the league and probably in the top quarter. He's made some mistakes, but he's also made some fantastic plays. Not sure a rookie Qb would have put up these kinds of numbers.

So yes, we need to find a QB for the long term, but the Jets shouldn't overdraft either. This is supposed to be a deep QB class. The Jets will draft a QB this year. Or, they'll pick up one in free agency. If Kirk Cousins is available, I think the Jets make a run at him...

Believe me, my plan this year was to try it the other way but we've already blown that chance unless we trade more good Picks to move up. Once We Get The Franchise Qb We Still Need The Great Oline To Win Most Likely. Look At Andrew Luck. Imagine How Many Superbowls Peyton Manning Would Have won If He Had A Better Team Around Him. Imagine If Peyton And brady Had Switched Teams For Their Careers. Peyton Might Have A Dozen Superbowl Wins If He Had bradys Oline.

I Hate To Say This, But Watching McCown Play And His Energy, I Like The Guy. If We Do Draft S Qb, It Might Not Be Bad To Let Him Watch For A Year While We Build The Line. I Dont Know? It's Hard To Have That Much Patience

For those saying how great Favre was. He had some pretty good teams around him and only 1superbowl. He did some really stupid stuff.

His last pass in Green bay was a game losing int. Vs.Giants in playoffs.

Believe it or not, his last pass in Minnesota was also a game losing int. I'm the playoffs

And while I don't think it was his very last pass with the Jets, he did end his last game as a Jet with an int. That cost us the game.

I think we would have complained about Favre had he been a Jet for his entire career.

Marino went to only 1 superbowl and lost in his first season, then never went back. Although he ruined us many, many times he never won the superbowl. I don't think we'd have been happy with those results had he been out qb.

I know 1 superbowl appearance is better than none, but just sayin...

If this doesn’t prove how cursed this franchise is, I don’t know what will. While the Giants will draft their next franchise QB for the next 15 plus years. You know, the one we should have but because we’re a cursed franchise, we al resign McCown and start him next year because he’s our guy! Bullshit!!!

Note: with the new GM hire, the Browns may finally get it right while the Jets keep trucking down the dumb-dumb lane. SMDH!!!
