I know I am one of the biggest Dee Milliner homer's on this board, but please hear me out. Would it behoove the Jets to put Dee on Injured Reserve and let him sit until next season, and here's why:

1) Rex or someone rushed him back too early which lead to the achilles injury. Are they not 1 year injuries ?

2) He's only 22 because he went Pro after his Junior year, so time is on his side.

3) We just invested $127M with our 4 NEW DB's, so let that play & thin out.

4) Most fans only give him credit for having only 4 games, but they forgot about the good games he had before Rex benched him. After the benching Dee was playing like a #1 CB.

5) I think the Jets would make a huge mistake by not standing by this kid. He'd be the next Ty Law with the Patsies.

If I have to guess today, Milliner will be there for Training Camp ready to go, because he feels like his job is in jeopardy. I hope #27 is with the Jets a long time.

Cy, I am probably the biggest Milliner critic on the board. I do agree with you that it is too soon to give up on him. I don't think you IR him this year. If he is ready by the middle of the season, great. So far, he has proven one thing, that he can't stay healthy. He had a few good games towards the end of his rookie year. But for all the rest of the games, he couldn't cover anyone. Receivers were running wide open on him. He looked lost.

I think the Jets just need to evaluate him when he is healthy and see where he is. But, based on what we've seen thus far, Milliner was a complete whiff. He has time to turn his career around, but the Jets can't wait for that to happen. They were very smart to move aggressively and fix the defensive backfield. Milliner, if he pans out at this point is a bonus.

Cy, I'm not a big fan of his when he came out and since he was drafted by us. I felt it was a bad pick. I am not one for trading him. At least he had 1 good month compared to Vernon Gholston (Just joking). I would not put him on IR. Give him time to heal and lets see what our coaching staff thinks when he's healthy.

I don't think IR'g him for the season is a good option but with the depth we have I don't think he is going to be rushed back. When he is ready he should play and show the staff if he is worthy of playing time. He has a ton to prove at his point, but in order to do that he is going to have to get healthy first.

Probably no need to IR him.... We can bring him back slowly and have him ready for mid season, if he isn't ready for the start of the season, and if we do have an injury we have him on the active roster for insurance down the road..

well it's only march, so any decision on IR shouldn't be made for 6 months.

as to the much added depth, it allows us the opportunity to not rush him back. if he's not ready to go to begin the season, they can put him on the IR - designated to return list so he can come back after 8(?) weeks.

much too early to give up on the kid. i'm sure the jets will give him his chance to prove his worth at some point.

Thanks NYJETSFANATICS, it's really nice to come to a Jet or NFL web-site and have adult friendly sports conversation without an insult or personal slam. If I had posted a Dee Milliner post on Scout or previous boards I would have been pitch forked and burned @ the stake. Thanks for making me feel welcome here guys. Cy:smiley-cool11:

This is any easy one for me. Dee's problem is and has always been his injuries. To me its clear he has elite talent. I fully believe he can be a top 5 CB if he can stay healthy.

When he has played and played healthy all the signs are there.

Yeah this forum has a much better tone to it than the forums I usually post on. Nice to have conversations without constantly insults and bashing.

This board is much better I will agree. As far as the thread itself, when he is fully ready let him play. Whether its week one or ten, with the depth we have there is no rush. Putting him in IR just for the sake of doing it might hurt him more. He is a football player and will want to play when he is ready so let him. He has ALOT to prove to this regime that he is our future #1 or #2 CB. I believe he will be very good when he has adjusted. I won't say Revis like but Ty Law like I can see that

Ty Law was one heck of a CB!! If Milliner can be half of that I would be happy [emoji4]

Greg, I really like your idea the best. He'll be ready by week 8 and not feel rushed in the designated to return list.

Milliner getting hurt was the best thing to happen to the Jets. If he comes back healthy then its just gravy.

If he can play up to half of his potential the Jets will have a sick secondary. Not a bad problem to have at all! Last time around we had Revis and Cro we didn't have as dominant of a front line and had to get coverage sacks, now we have a monster front line and a solid secondary so we should be able to really get pressure on the QB now.

to clarify, i said see where he is at the end of pre-season, and if not ready, then stash him on the short-term IR. i would not be making that call today, but rather when rosters need to be set before the season starts

Eh, he's a total wild card to our season. Im glad management isnt counting on him at all. I think if they let him get to 100%, he'll be a resource you can use him strategically throughout the game plan maybe as a spy assigned to a mobile QB, maybe for a match up problem to help bracket a Dez Bryant type.

He'll get a year of film room with Revis, Cro, Skrine, Bowles, and new teaching methods as well. I say keep him a year under the new regime, and they'll either mold him into what they feel they need for this system as a high caliber CB, or at the end of the season they'll likely move him, one way or another if they dont think he's the goods.

Simply put-I don't trust him. I don't trust him to stay healthy, I don't trust his football IQ, I don't trust him to be in shape....and as I have said before, he's teetering on being a total bust.

I hope I'm wrong!!!

Cheers CY!

Trust on health? It can not be foreseen. It is all about talent. He has it or not I think he does.
