FitzMagic and the NY Jets Record book

All of these long standing NY Jets passing /receiving records could fall by the wayside, this weekend against the Bills ......

Passing Yards 4,007 Joe Namath 1967
Passing TDs 29 Vinny Testaverde 1998

Ryan Fitzpatrick has the 29 TD's so one more breaks the record .....currently has 3,724 yards 283 short of Namath record.
That plus team total offensive yards will be a new team record.

Receiving Yards 1,434 Don Maynard 1967

Brandon Marshall already has 1,376 so needs 59 yards to have the record.

That plus the Decker + Marshall combo has a few others!

Not really. It's the most important one though.

If we get to the playoffs and go out to the Bengals... We'll remember the Fitz/Marshall glory year for years to come... But not so much the season records!

If we win the SB however... [emoji2]

I won't remember individual records. Making the playoffs to me is only thing that matters.

Yeah I could care less about TD records, yardage records, Pro Bowls, all any of that does is make it harder to re-sign a player.

All I care about is that the Jets don't throw a stinker up the way they did the last time they played the Bills.

As a team ofcourse it does and in the scheme of things, I get your point but it would be really cool for Fitz, Marshall and the offense as a whole to break these records. I'm personally hoping they do (as we all do I'm sure) but I also want Decker to catch ten balls for over 100 yards to give him 85 catches and hopefully 1100 yards. That just would be nice to see also.

Sad that we have to celebrate FINALLY joining the modern-day NFL.

hopefully this year starts setting these stats as expectations instead of great achievements . . .

Great point

Maccagnan, Bowles took over a 4-12 awfully coached laughing stock. They cleaned out the Aegean Stable of mess Rex had made. Ridded the team of his incompetent position coaches, uncovered some drafted talent Rex had left to rot like Enunwa and Winters and restocked the team adding a pro bowl wide receiver for a fifth, a competant NFL starting QB for a sixth and an eventual if not already elite DT in Williams and Mauldin and others

Their terrific work in one season completely removed the stench of the Rex clown circus and gave Jet fans the best all around football team theyve seen since 1998

Thanks Woody and Mike and Todd for making us PROUD of the Green and White in 2015

alot of very sound points LGM..

but as great a turnaround the jets have had, getting swept by ryan & not making the playoffs as a result would be brutal..

not because of ryan, BTW.. because i think we can make a real run at winning the whole damn thing this year!!

do things look great going foward?? damn right they do but special seasons can be a perfect storm & we are right in the middle of one!!

the time is now because we are healthy, confident & playing by far our best football of the season.. very similar december to what we had in'98.. oh & that #14 guy with the beard?? yeah, he's pretty good too..

for this season to truly be a success, we beat buffalo this sunday..

& if we do, let the chips fall where they may in the playoffs..

I know this isn't a popular point but what made Mac do all the great things he was able to do was Idzik's cap management. He did a phenomenal job of cleaning up the mess. Having said that, no way in hell does he do what Mac did this season. He was slow in negotiating and didn't know how to set up a scouting department for long term success. More importantly, I think he was invested in Geno which means he wouldn't have traded for Fitz

Don't know if it's been mentioned that Marshall and Decker had their 8th game this season where both caught TD passes, a new NFL record.

For those who have been around long enough to watch the current record holders it's a reminder of those times. But it also shows the instability of this franchise since those glory days. Our history shows years of futility with some sprinkling of success. To think the records that are being challenged now were established back in 14 game seasons.

Our recent history shows playoff runs in '04, '06, '08 and '09 as wild card teams that didn't win the division. Also '01 as 2nd WC. Last division title 2002 at 9-7. You have to go back to '98 when the division was won without needing a tie breaker. Who was coaching after that year? Groh who quit after 1 season. Edwards who ran to KC after 5 years. Mangini, 3 years; Ryan 6 years. Bowles is the 5th coach since Parcells. That was the last time we were serious SB contenders.

We need more than just breaking records. We need to end the drought. 11-5 only matters if you make it to 15-5. That's the record I'm hoping to see this year.

Actually, Parcells coached 1 more season after that. The year Vinny went down at the start and we finished 8-8.

Thanks for pointing that out. The idea behind the statement was the amount of coaching changes from Parcells it took to get a team that resembled the one in '98.
