Fitzpatrick Thread: Latest Update - Jets concerns growing over Ryan Fitzpatrick's inability to throw

a 10-15 yard out is his biggest weakness
throws outside the numbers has always been an issue for guys without a big arm..

can fitzpatrick get it done when the temperature drops & the wind starts howling?? we'll see..

i just think the pop gun arm thing was overplayed while fitzpatrick was still recovering from a broken leg..

that said, whatever his arm may or may not be, with the help of his OL & quick decision making fitzpatrick has only been sacked once in the regular season after to games..

He does a good job rolling out to complete those passes

I'm definitely happy with his game the last two weeks and the zip on the ball he has shown.
I'm hopeful that it continues on thru tomorrow and onwards.
...and if so we can do some real damage.
He can be the best QB we've had since a healthy Pennington not that that is saying much but I'd be happy with that.

What strikes me is his calmness and quiet confidence coming out of the huddle,
lining up, and surveying the field.
It's as if he's lining up for practice.
Great observation, I've noticed that too, there is no trace of excitement in his game, not even in the hurry-up offense, it never looks frantic, its very subdued and business like, like you said, it almost looks like Fitz is just taking practice reps, its that calm. NOT COMPARING THE TALENT, but Monatna was like that too, he never looked stressed or excited, Joe Cool

No. I ABSOLUTELY do NOT think the Jets have a defense comparable to the 2000 Ravens. Which is what you referred to, NOT just tops in the NFL. NOT EVEN CLOSE. The comparison alone is completely absurd.[/QUOTE

If all goes as planned the Jets could very well end up being the top defense in the league. You don't need to be historically the best defense but one that gives trouble to opposing qbs. We have made two offenses look like crap so far and that's without our defense having arguably its best player. When Sheldon comes back, we will be even better. A defense that could carry a qb

But that's NOT what Ucrenegade posted Elias. I posted that Ryan will NEVER take the Jets to the SB. NEVER. He posted Trent Dilfer says hi. As if to indicate that sh*tty QB's can take a team to the SB and win it.

The 2000 Ravens had statistically the very best defense in the history of the NFL.

Are YOU saying that Ryan Fitzpatrick can lead the Jets to the SB and WIN it? You couldn't possibly believe that? If you do, you're only insulting yourself. That will NEVER happen.

Never wise to speak in absolutes. Fitzpatrick isn't a problem either. On the contrary my jet brethren.

YES. Fitz is the nest QB on the roster. The thought that it could be Geno was just wishful thinking by some fans around here. Geno sucks and he would made this loss a lot worse today. He's a turnover machine. Fitz, on the other hand, has protected the ball quite well through 3 games.

Yeah man, it was just a sh*tty game. Days like today can be good for the long run though. And I think that's what's gonna happen. This will be a well coached team. And we have a field general.

I guess this says a lot about how Jet fans view Geno, and I think Bowles is probably with the fans at this point:

Gary Myers @garymyersNYDN

We Want Geno? As bad as Ryan Fitzpatrick was Sunday, no chants for Geno Smith from Jets fans.

We can't expect the Jets to win when Fitz has to throw the ball almost 60 times in a game. Our running attack, defense and ST have to be better.

I think Bowles is as stern as they come. If he felt Fitz was stinking it up, i think he would have been pulled in favor of Geno.

I'am in no way advocating for Geno to start over Fitz by no means. Tho Bowles knows whats best for this team. If our Offensive line needs a QB to scramble and elongate drives, then i feel a switch may be on the horizon.

Time will tell wether Fitz has more games like this, though it's no surprise as we all know his ceiling, even with excellent receivers as he had in Houston with Hopkins & Johnson. Geno on the other hand, the jury is out on how he can play in this system with the quality group of talent we have at his disposal.

Again, if a change is made it wont be because the fans are chanting or calamouring for him. Bowles is more than that. If he does make a switch, it will be well calculated to help this team win.

Look, NYJ fans must understand what Ryan Fitzpatrick is.....

Ryan Fitzpatrick is not a good QB by any stretch. He never has been and he never will be. What he is a suitable stopgap until the Jets can find a franchise to put in there. Ryan Fitzpatrick CAN protect the ball and have limited success through the air. He can. The team must set him up that way though and they did not do that yesterday.

If you understand what Ryan Fitzpatrick is, then you won't be disappointed with him for yesterday's performance. He did what he could do.

Fitzpatrick played well enough for us to win the game yesterday, it was the rest of the offense that let him down. Marshall's crazy attempt represents a 14-point swing, in my view. We looked like we would have scored on that drive, and obviously they would not have scored if he hadn't given them the ball. Seven more for us, seven less for them - would have changed the game completely, especially with our defense shutting them out in the second half.

To me, this loss is primarily on Marshall. Even with all the other gaffes the team made, we probably would have won the game if not for his huge brain-lock.

But I still think he is a great player and I'm glad he's here...

Don't forget the easy catch on the sidelines that went through his hands for a pick.

The drop from Ivory to Stacy/Powell is crazy. I know everyone on here loves Powell, but man he doesn't do much. One nice run in which he dances behind the line every couple of weeks, that's about it.

So now we pretty much know why Kerley has been benched, or at least part of the reason. With the increased chances of batted balls, they want tall WRs so the balls can go up high

I think the league in general is trending towards tall physical receivers. The Edelmans and Welkers are becoming the outliers. Kerley is very short compared to the other receivers on the roster. It's very apparent when you see the games live.

kerley sucks can't get separation or run good routes is more for his non-active part in the team. Huge drop-off after marshall and decker.
