Fitzpatrick Thread -- Ryan Fitzpatrick, Jets agree to 1-year, $12M deal

Bottom line here is this...... The QB market is wildly different than what the Jets anticipated it would be...... But the offer for Fitz is a slap in the face.... Unless they feel Petty is way ahead of where everyone else thinks he is than the offer to Fitz should have started about $11 Million per year.

Now I think you have to offer 13-14.... Not because Fitz will sign that elsewhere, he might eventually with Den if things play out a certain way, but because we need his leadership back and we need him all in when he comes back... I like the hardball Mac is playing here cause no way I give Fitz over 14 Mill per but he's earned to make up to that..... We need him to bridge one more year for Petty IMO but maybe the FO believes the kid is ready.... we shall see

But we have cap problems. Not sure we have that kind of money to waste on a career average QB. I would rather take a step back next year than waste money on Fitz.

Reading the latest buzz, it sounds like the Jets are prepared to move on without Fitz if they have to. The preference is obviously to bring him back on the cheap (7,8 million per), but they're view of Fitzpatrick isn't focused just on his 2015 performance. They're considering the entire resume, and what he projects to be for the next couple of years.

The question becomes: who's going to play QB this season? What do you tell guys like Marshall, Mangold, Forte, Revis, ect? We're going to roll the dice with Bryce Petty? We're going to get one more look at Geno Smith? Brian Hoyer?

Maccagnan might have to make a controversial decision in the coming weeks.

I agree, it sucks for the vets especially since we have a solid group of players. It will make Bowles' job much more difficult but remember this is almost the same exact core of players that was excited to go into last year with Geno. They are professionals and will come out and play.

Can't trust Marshall's opinion anymore, haha.

I pray that we don't see Geno as the starter again but if he is, I will be rooting like hell to see him turn that corner.

honestly, i believe bowles' smith experiment ended when enempkali broke his jaw..

why bring in QB's off the street if "next man up" is already on your roster?? my thoughts anyway..

Fitzpatrick needs to realize he is NOT getting a payday for the team's success of a 10 - 6 season, because when it counted and we needed him to win a big game he couldn't come through or instead of working within the system he decided he was going to be a one man hero... One more win and we would of been in the playoffs, but because we weren't he shouldn't expect a 5 year deal at $18 Million annual...

Jets & Fitz need to agree on a 1 year deal for $11 M fully gtd...

Why only one year because his history, cold weather and continuous lack of success shouldn't be ignored but he was a part of a winning team bouncing back from a horrid 4-12 year...

At the end of the year the team will revisit another extension unless they feel Petty is ready to take over... But to offer him more than one year should be off the table... Just my opinion...

3 yr deal.... with the 3rd yr an option.... at 12 mill per...

a 1 year deal isn't getting it done and we want him there for that 2nd yr even if we are handing the team over to Petty as insurance

then make option for year 2 not 3... we don't need to get locked into a deal with someone who is prone to being a failure... but no way offering him over that is sane... $11 M (fully gtd) w/incentives should be more than enough... the second year could be $11 M not gtd... why 2nd year not gtd, is because he isn't guaranteed to stay the starter and leaves the team option to make a move without dead loss, if and once he is named starter the 2nd year can be stipulated to become fully gtd...

he is not worth 11 or 12 mil period. Even though he set some records for us his overall play was in the middle of the OB pack.... I like to resign him because another year in the system should mean more efficiency but I with Mac and he is not being obstinate MJ he is looking at his overall performance which has been spotty.

Mac should reach out and see where things are at and if he still thinks he is worth 15m or more then I say F him and sign RG3 and let the boys fight it out. Enough with the drama ...

Here's the thing I can't get past, and I'm sure the front office.
Fitz signed last year 3.25 mil and 90% of the fan base still didn't want him.
Now that was legit for his resume. 1 year and 10 wins later ,and 2 horrific losses to Rex and company, the last devastating ( at least to me ) he wants 18 mil multi year contract? Do "I" want that , not that it matters-what I want.......another year from him? I really don't can't about the money it's not mine, love to have him as a back up but it's really time "again" to see what we can do to improve the QB position.

When you sign guys, it's 2 humans talking. Forte has stated today, he signed because he was lead to believe Fitz is a done deal. He had 4 other offers. The point is, if the gm breaks his word to his stars, he might just lose the locker room. These players aren't slaves, you can't just say shut up and do what I tell you.

I believe your starter clause is illegal.

Umm, not sure how to say this, but we didn't sign him last year.

His 2 losses to Rex are why he gets 10mill neighborhood, otherwise he would be getting 20. Fox had a great year. Stats show it, but stats aside, Fitz brought life to this team.

He was the undoubted team leader! Think about that. A journeyman making 3mil/year shows up to pre season and makes the team his, a team with Revis, mo,Richardson, marshal, decker. Abs Fitz instantly led this team. That says a lot.

I'm happy with low teens considering his risky slides. I'm fine with a3 year deal 1 or 2 guaranteed, because he would either stay our starter, or he will transition to backup/closer. Petty over the next 3 years will only be making pennies, so the qb payroll is very doable.
