Another QB discussion that is trending toward lacking civility. Who'da thunk it?
I don't hate the person, i hate the football player. The guy is a dud. Theres always an excuse for him. Now what is this sanity you speak of? Is it the usual 4 years in a row BS of how "good and sharp" he looks in the off season. How amazing his throws are in training camp? How coaches are impressed about his strong arm?
That isn't called sanity-more down the lines of insanity thinking this player will translate that play when the bullets shoot for real. He hasn't done it ever consistently. When the game is on the line he chokes, we all know that, but hell-i'am sure in his 5th season it'll click. smh.
It'll click alright, probably vs the Buffalo again, when there is absolutley nothing to play for. When players on the opposite end just want to start their respective vacations with their families. Having another last game of the season Geno'esque perfromance like he did in '13 & '14 that made so many fans delusional thinking that he's actually a starting caliber QB in this league.
Geno had his opportunity vs Oakland when Fitz went down. That was his game to retake his position so many stated he earned in training camp. He choked. He had better players around him than he did in '13 & '14. It's his kind of system with the spread. Oh yes, he did wat he typically does, squander it.
Nick Foles on the other hand, in '13 when then Philadelphia Eagle starter Mike Vick went down at Metlife stadium versus a meaningful game against the Giants, went in and lit it up and took full advantage of the task at hand.
I just find it funny how some fans look at Smith and think to themselves that he actually has a chance and forget that he is just another:
Eric Zeier
David Klingler
Browning Nagle
JaMarcus Russell
Ryan Leaf
..... All this none-sense that some of you are saying about Geno Smith is like stating that one of the aforementioned QB busts were any good in their NFL career.
Just stop it already. It's comical at this point. Thankfully this will be placed to bed once FItz returns and the pro Geno supporters can go back into oblivion for one more season just like in 2015. Where there wasn't a peep about replacing Ryan with Va'Geno.
I wish Bowles started Geno in the last game against the Bills then, the Jets would've made the playoffs.
You mean petty?I wish Bowles started Geno in the last game against the Bills then, the Jets would've made the playoffs.
I wish Bowles started Geno in the last game against the Bills then, the Jets would've made the playoffs.
You see, it wouldn't have worked. There was something to play for. When that occurs, Geno chokes by the middle of the 1st quarter (3interceptions at best). At-least we had some sort of chance with Fitz.
Now had the Jets been out of playoff contention heading into Buffalo, Geno would have thrown for 5,000 yards, 9 TD's and would have baked a tiramisu cake blind folded....AND would have prevented Beyonce' from ever making that Lemonade song.
(The guy is a phenom when theres no pressure.... Just check out how amazing he does in shorts and Pads. He's the David Blaine of Football. He has tricked many Jets fans into thinking we could actually give him an extension before the season starts in case he has a break out year, Just becuase he excels yearly in OTA's)
So we ended up at the same place with Fitz. No playoffs. Let me say I think Fitz gives us the best chance to win, but I would rather spend his money on Mo.
Fitz is 6 mill per year with a6 mill signing bonus, 8 mill per for arguments sakeI hear you 100% and my sentiments exactly on Mo. Though in this league without a competent QB, we wont be in games. I dont believe Fitz is worth $12 mil a season. The league though has changed. What Philly did over paying for Sam Bradford and Chase Daniels upped the level of pay for above average QB's.
As far as having Geno, we would not have been in that position any way leading up to the last game vs Buffalo. We would have easily lost the pats and Giants game with Smith at the helm judging by how horrible the guy is.
I'm wondering at what point do the Jets just fold their hand and move on. Fitz was great for us last season but he is overplaying that hand. Anyway you look at it, he is a bridge player and even beyond Fitz we need to improve at the position, so at what point do the Jets say "enough is enough, have a nice life"??

I know as a fan I'm over it, but I'm assuming the Jets have more patience than I do.
When they no longer believe he improves the team enough to warrant his asking price.

both sides seem content to wait until just before training camp..which doesn't appear to be happening anytime soon . . .

Without even getting into the specific criticisms of Geno, I have never pretended that he has been consistently great, and I have acknowledged many times that he has had many bad games as well as some truly awful ones. I don't agree that he has only been good when it has been meaningless - for example, he played well enough that he gave the Jets a shot at winning both Patriot games in 2014, against one of the best defenses in the league - however, my biggest issue with your position is that you make no allowance for the fact that he was thrown into the fire as a rookie and a second year player, without much talent around him and certainly without a good OC to develop him. You vilify Geno by comparing what he did in 2013/2014 to what Fitz did in 2015, without acknowledging that Fitz came in as an 11 year veteran, coming into an offensive system in which had had not only played previously, but in which he had experienced his greatest success as a pro, as opposed to Geno being a rookie and sophomore, coming out of a spread offense in college. The fact that Geno made dumb decisions and often locked onto receivers then doesn't mean that with experience and better coaching, and especially now with having had a chance to sit and learn for a year which he never had before, he doesn't have a chance, even a probability, of doing better. And especially with a more talented offense around him. I simply don't understand the conviction that whatever he was in his first two years is as good as he's ever going to be.
Yes, geno can certainly take this opportunity to show management Fitz who.Without even getting into the specific criticisms of Geno, I have never pretended that he has been consistently great, and I have acknowledged many times that he has had many bad games as well as some truly awful ones. You couldn't be more off base. And the fact that you are accusing rational people who have no confidence in geno, of being hateful, is sick. We are people, we have opinions. Geno has shown nothing except negatives. You see a guy shine 20%of the time and assume that's the real him. I see a guy who had achieved nothing except in garbage time, and is a cry baby.
Is it possible geno matured YES! Is it likely that he is going to be a top 20qb this year NO! not because I hate him, but because it isn't likely. And if you believe he will shock us this year, you are assuming he's going to suddenly perform based on zero evidence.
I hope he becomes Joe Namath and wins 4 super bowls as a jet, but what in the world would lead me to believe that's likely??? Because every year the team says he's having a great camp?
How many times does a guy need to piss on your head before you realize it's not rain?
Geno is in the final year of his deal, the Jets have announced a fa as their starter. The Jets haven't offered geno an extension. The Jets have 3 mill in cap space and haven't been able to lock up mo yet, and are offering Fitz 12 mill this year, 24 total, to be the starter. That doesn't shout confidence in any way about what they see in geno. It also happens to match the back of geno's card. We know who he is, if he changes, it will be that, a change.
But your confidence in geno is not based in reality, it's an assumption. And to accuse people who don't blindly believe the way you do of being hateful is not ok. I am a jet fan, I will route for my qb,whoever that is, but that doesn't mean that I have to blindly believe any qb wearing a Jets Jersey is destined for greatness.

But I am not suggesting that the Jets should move forward with certainty of Geno becoming a franchise QB. I am saying that it is worth seeing if he has improved his understanding and decision-making after sitting for a year, and learning from Gailey - and Fitz to some extent - and if so, can he be a better and more consistent - and most importantly, a winning - QB with Marshall & Decker and this current Jets team.
One thing we all agree about is that ultimately it doesn't matter what his coaches and teammates say now, the only thing that will matter is whether he is able to produce on the field, when it counts, and under pressure. I do feel, though, that even in some of the interview clips with Geno, he seems more mature and personable, and I am hopeful that that is a sign of personal growth that will manifest itself as well in his play on the field.
