Game Thread: NY Jets @ Buffalo Bills

Clutch reason for loss:

1. Dropped passes by Thompkins, Decker and Enunwa that all could have been TDs.

2. Defense played like shit today, gave up to many 3rd down conversion and 2-3 4th down conversions.

3. Watkins killed Revis today, mainly on 3rd downs. Revis looked like a real bitch out there today.

4. Missing of Powell's play today. That was so evident it wasn't even funny.

5. Not giving the ball enough to Ivory for whatever reason. When he got the ball he made something happen with it but less then 10 touches and how can you expect him to have an impact. This should have been a 25 touch game for Ivory. Maybe he was truly hampered and couldn't give anymore.

6. Continuing from #4 and #5, Ridley couldn't make up the difference and pretty much stunk today.

7. Fitz came up real short today. His lack of arm strength or accuracy showed today.

8. Play calling was atrocious and the coaching staff should be ashamed of themselves.

9. Rex and the Bills wanted it more then the Jets and got it.

10. Continuing from #9, the team as a whole just didn't want it bad enough, laid a huge fat egg and don't deserve to be in the play offs.

no matter how much Bowles tries to downplay the cheater games , when a team beats you 9 out of 10 times and you finally beat them once it is huge. Not surprising at all that we had a big letdown this week. What's really bad to me is now we have 2 coaches in our division that want nothing more then to beat us and so far under Bowles we are 1-3 against them.

I'm glad as hell that we finally beat the cheaters but sadly they are still in and we are out after a complete meltdown today... and the dolphins beating them today takes a little something way from our win

Bowles didn't have this team ready against Rex both games... As someone said earlier Rex knows how to motivate guys when the game is personal to him but over a full season he just doesn't get his team as amped... Not sure why but that will always be Rex's down fall.

I was one of the posters that said this. For one game that is personal to Rex (especially) its like no one can beat him but for a season, he sucks ass and will fail you every time. To bad these were the two games he rallied the troops for and our Jets are paying for it. They didn't want it bad enough and don't deserve to go to the playoffs. When it comes down to it, it shouldn't matter what Rex does or who we played against, they should of won the game but they didn't because they weren't prepared enough and didn't want it bad enough. Case Closed and season done!

Basically, you can't get a team playing above itself for 16 games. For the occasional big game? Sure. But when you make every game out to be your Super Bowl, your team tunes you out, because it's all empty rhetoric.

The Jets benefited from Bowles' even-keeled approach week after week, but suffered from it in comparison to Rex's Super Bowl hype going into Week 17. The point is, if Bowles had been more like Rex, the Jets might have beaten the Bills today, but there is no way they would have gone into Week 17 with a 10-5 record.

Jets are definitely headed in the right direction to ensure REX RYAN makes the Jets his BITCH twice s season.

Good for Rex. If he actually got his team to play against everyone the way he does against the Jets, maybe he wouldn't have produced a worse record than Marrone had last year in Buffalo.

Bowles improves the team he inherited by 6 games, Rex inherits a team with a winning record and makes them .500, and you're bashing Bowles and hyping Rex.

Clutch reason for loss:

1. Drop passes will always hurt
2. Defensive game plan could of been better, but there were some blown assignments on setting the edge
3. Revis played the position and the game plan installed - the Jets were in a zone off man coverage preventing the deep ball
4. Yes we missed Bilal Powell and his overall contributions
5. Ivory came into this game roughly 60 - 70% healthy and was used sparingly - he was frequently getting treatment throughout the game
6. Instead of utilizing Ridley as that alternate option to spell Ivory they reversed roles which bit us badly
7. Weather conditions were a factor, but play calling was poor by itself
8. Yes play calling was pathetic especially in these elements - Gailey should of known better
9. Yes Rex wanted to make a mockery of his former team and did so
10. Shit happens, time to move on still an impressive turn around from last seasons 4 - 12 record

Bowles: "Every loss stings. It stings because it's the last loss."

So this was the equivalent of a loss in September, they all sting?

Is he friggin delusional?

Does he really think thats what Jets fans want to hear tonight, with their bleeping hearts ripped out?

Dude, drop the Mr. Cool act, this loss is DEVASTATING!!!

If the Jets had lost against the Giants, then beat the Bills today but were kept out of the playoffs by the Steelers winning, would it really be any different?

Or is it just that fans treat it differently because Rex was here before Bowles came here?

What if Bowles was Bowles for the first 15 Games, but had recognized that the situation calls for more THIS WEEK, this being the last game of the regular season with everything on the line, and PICKED HIS SPOT to ratchet up the motivation ten fold to insure his team was mentally prepared to match or exceed Buffalo's intensity?

If he had done that, not all season, just this week, I think there's a good chance we're in the playoffs tonight.

I like Rex. I'm disgusted today because we lost a game against a team with a losing record and nothing to play for while a win for us meant playoffs

I respectfully disagree.

If we did everything we could, we would have showed up like a team on a mission today, beat the Buffalo Bills, and we would be in the playoffs. Thats the truth of it, Tebow, fact of the matter is, we DIDN'T do everything we could because we didn't finish the job when we were 60 minutes away and controlled our own destiny.

I won't sugarcoat this ... I SAW IT COMING ... I saw this letdown coming ... unfortunately our head coach didn't see it too, or if he did, he didn't do enough to combat it ... so everything we accomplished this year was for nothing.
So should they fire Bowles tomorrow, Ham?

After all he only got us to 10-6 only 6 games better than last season

Lets put up a billboard!!

You know I think you are one of the best posters ever here, at JA and one of the greats at JI....

But between friends, you are getting way to heated up about this.

The Jets won 10 games after losing 12 in 2014. They found a competent QB and a probowl WR for peanuts. They had a great 2015 draft and even salvaged a number of previously written off players from Idziks drafts.

All things considered we had a good season and hopes should be high for 2016.....especially with Miami starting over, Rex at Buffalo and Brady 39+ when next season begins

no one had us winning these many games before the season...
so for us to turn around from last year horrendous season is feat in itself...
he is calm, cool and collective in front of the camera, he isn't wear it on his sleeve like Rex so get used it...
he is far from delusional but as a true leader he has been he knows it is what it is and this team is far from a built contender, this off season will be key to replace the missing pieces so next year we can continue to build upon what we started this season...
we should of won other games this season but beat ourselves... a lot of what ifs, I understand divisional games sting worse then non-divisional games...
give this guy credit he turned us around into a respectable team in one season...
there is no reaction now that will help us, we are out of the playoffs and all he can do is help GM Maccagnan and review what players need to move on...

I get your point, but there's a difference when its the last game of the season and its WIN AND YOU'RE IN, you can't be dismissive of a loss of that magnitude and imply all losses are the same in terms of how much they sting. That makes him sound painfully unaware of just how devastated Jets fans are tonight.

G,
It might be a big turn around from last year but with the amount of money we spent and the players we added, combined with the weakest schedule we will ever see I consider it a letdown. Forgetting we are the Jets when you looked at the teams on our schedule you could see a 10 win season for any mediocre team. We have a lot of good players. We should have beat the cheaters twice and Rex twice and we should have been the team with homefield advantage... but we Jeted in our pants like we always do

trust me Bowles right now is disgusted but he has been all season long an even keeled guy especially in front of the cameras...

fans are devastated but have to realize that we actually have a better regime in place to continue to evolve next season and seasons on after that...

WOW, do we actually have some one worse then sg3 in Mainejet? I guess I never really noticed how bad this guy was because of my personal battles and damn near hatred for sg3 but man, Mainejet you truly ae a negative guy aren't you? Are you truly a Jets fan or what?
Have to agree. Glad that sg3 guy is gone

look at this as well as Marshall played this year in a whole he also was the goat in a couple of our losses...
yes we should of beaten the Patriots twice as I mentioned some where on a thread tonight...

I saw this team having potential for a decent season, as you know...
I also saw the chance of us beating ourselves when we put the ball in Fitzpatrick's hands and he starts forcing the issue which he did today in a key critical drive when we were in the red zone down 2 points...

Injuries also were a factor this season, so we need to get younger and faster on all 3 phases of this team... If that means parting way with long time Jets then so be it, but it is time to break up this roster and start building then trying to win now...

You're a good guy, gmf, you too LGM, perhaps its time I get a cold drink and settle down. This game really pushed my buttons, big time, it started in the first quarter and I'm still pissed off, its a miracle I haven't had a stroke!

Anyway, I just need a little time to wind down, its a good time to step away.

Oh and sack, I'm sorry we had words earlier today in the game thread, that game put me in a bad mood and it just kept getting worse by the minute, but still, I'm sorry we had words cause you're a good guy too.

If he had done that, not all season, just this week, I think there's a good chance we're in the playoffs tonight.

I would have been fine with that. However, would that have undermined longterm his message of remaining steady? In other words, if he puts 10 times more emphasis on this game, how can he come back next year and preach about an even keel?

The key is in front of the cameras.

Fans only see what he wants fans to see. Did he amp up the energy this week during practice? Did he tear into the team at halftime?

We probably will never know. And honestly, we don't need to know. There are certain things that are for public consumption, and others that are meant to be kept behind closed doors. Just because Rex blabbed to everyone with a microphone about the team's business doesn't mean Bowles has to.
