Ben Ijalana - G - Jets
Jets OT Ben Ijalana exited the team's second preseason game with a knee injury.
He was quickly ruled out which is never a good sign. A second-round pick of the Colts in 2011, Ijalana was expected to serve as the Jets' swing tackle. Ijalana has torn his left ACL twice.

Ryan Fitzpatrick - QB - Jets
Ryan Fitzpatrick completed 13-of-19 passes for 118 yards in the Jets' second preseason game.
The Jets found the end zone for the first time this preseason on Fitzpatrick's final drive of the night, though the drive came against the Falcons' twos and threes. Fitzpatrick's first five drives all ended in punts with two three-and-outs. The offense should improve as OC Chan Gailey opens up the playbook, but it has not been a promising start.

Brandon Marshall - WR - Jets
Brandon Marshall caught four passes for 62 yards in the Jets' second preseason game.
Marshall jumpstarted the offense with a 30-yard reception in the second quarter. Chris Ivory scored the Jets' first touchdown of the preseason with a 33-yard romp later on the same drive. Ryan Fitzpatrick peppered Marshall with five targets in basically a quarter and a half at work, a trend which should continue in the regular season. Marshall is a value at the bottom of the fifth round.

The best part of tonight had to be how Bryce Petty went through his progressions like a veteran on that TD pass.

Saw the first option covered, looked left...then looked for a quick dump off to the rb then slinged it to posey.

No way you start him week one. But if he has another solid performance next week vs the 2's, Todd has got to consider him as the season opener backup.

That will be interesting because he didn't seem to "love" the Flynn addition.

I feel like Bryce gets "it". He sees Flynn as both some one to learn from but also as competition.

Bryce is making strides, I think Bowles will allow him to continue to progress at his own pace as opposed to forcing him as the back up.

Only if Petty truly merits the role will he be the opening day Back up QB, if not IMHO, it will be Flynn.

Todd Bowles unloads on Jets’ ‘terrible’ discipline

Coach Todd Bowles was not pleased with all of the penalty flags his team drew in Friday night’s preseason win over the Falcons.
The Jets ended up with 17 penalties, 10 in the first half. Darrelle Revis picked up a holding call in the end zone and the secondary was whistled for three straight penalties at one point. There were personal fouls and holding calls. Tight end Kellen Davis had three penalties by himself.
“You ain’t going to win no ballgames having 17 penalties,” Bowles said. “Effort was great, penalties were terrible. That was way more than imagined. We got better in some areas. We got worse there. We’ve got to clean that up.”
The players said Bowles’ main message after the game was about cleaning up the penalties.
“We can’t beat ourselves,” guard Willie Colon said.
Bowles stressed tackling after a poor performance against the Lions last week. He saw improvement in that area Friday night. Now, he hopes the same thing happens with the flags.
“Hopefully we learn from penalties this week,” Bowles said. “We’ve got to get better every week. We’ve got to progress next week. Hopefully, the penalties go down. We’re going to work our asses off on it and we’ll go from there.”

Aaron Rodgers got 3. Pennington got his first start year 3...while Rodgers got his first start year 4...

Rodgers and Chad were first round picks. Rodgers was sitting behind a SB winning QB and future HOF, and Chad was sitting behind a former number one pick who recently took the Jets to the AFC championship game. The Jets will not wait two years for Petty, Woody Johnson has shown he will go out and sign a starter or draft a better guy...like he did when we drafted Clemens in round 2.

Now these are what i feel preseason is great for. The penalties are something that will be one of Todd Bowles main issues he has to contend with. The off sides, the holdings, the pass interference's are all due to a lack of undisciplined football that has been accepted for the past 5 years with Rex.

Come week one, i'am hoping that disciplinary action will be taken if this garbage further continues. Bowles will have this team ready & the culture will be completely over hauled by this time next year IMHO. This will take some time folks.

I hope no one took me out of contexts last night (including 55) with pre season games. Don't get me wrong, i love watching my green and white play. Though these games are "practice" match ups. win or lose it doesn't matter. Whats important are to see the flaws of the team and have the coach rectify the issues back at Florham so that when the games do matter, these mistakes can be taken care of.

Yes, i stated that i feel the team will win 10 games this season. That isn't piggy backing off of last nights performance and dreaming. It's more to the knowledge that this team is well built all around. Unfortuantley our QB is average at best. Yet, with that being said, many teams have won with a journey man Quarterback in this league.

We have a sick defense in which i'am glad Todd isn't showing what he has because it would absoluetly be ridiculous to gift wrap game tape to our 1st three to four opponents.

Our WR core is top 5 in the NFL. They can catch and fly fellas.

Our RB situation can grind and as Ivory illustrated yesterday, he can break one for a long distance.

Our O-Line will continue to gel together.

We have excellent depth ALL AROUND.

The preseason is also to evaluate what we have and to make tough decisions as to who makes it on the roster, who starts and who deserves to be promoted/demoted. Lets not think for a second that last nights game is any indication on how this team will perform week one.

Its day and night, game play wise and schematically.

On Petty starting week 1 : Maybe but probably not. He looks like he may be the real deal but I hate to see the team ruin him. But you know what, if he totally steps up next week then the JETs are fools to not look forward. So far, he looks like a very good prospect.

Don't think we'll see Petty week one, nor should we. Maybe later in the season, but only if it goes sideways. Petty will be well served by a red shirt year. He could have a horrific game just as easily next time.

With that said I am very encouraged by what we saw last night.

I do agree, though if Petty continues to progress, i feel what would impede him from adapting more would be to demote him to 3rd string come week one. If he stumbles next week and week four, i'am on board to jotting him down as the number three for week one.

I definetly understand that there is a learning curve. Though there are QBs (and other positions) that lear quicker than others. As Bowles said, Petty wont learn unless he's getting snaps. This is all contingent on how Petty continues to grow in the next two weeks. If he's not ready for a back up role, thats fine a red shirt year would do him well. Yet if he makes all the right throws and is getting it, to me it doesnt make much sense stripping him of snaps in practice merely on the fact that he's a rook.

I don't know fellas. After watching both pre season games this looks like a 4-6 win team. Hope I'm wrong but the talent looks thin to me...

No question the 1's look bad. Don't think it's the talent as much as they just don't seem to be playing together. More a mob then a team.

Next week, when the 1's will probably play into the 3rd 1/4 will tell a lot.

I was discouraged by the showing of the starters, no doubt about it. I understand the offense isn't going to open up the playbook, but it would've been nice to see a few more first down conversions early, and maybe a score against their first team defense. They just didn't look ready to me. Fitzpatrick needs to really start clicking by next game. Defensively, it wasn't much better. I know that's Matt Ryan, but he was making it look too easy out there. I expect better from our starters.

I'm not gonna freak out about it, but the starters should be running gassers in practice all week. Bowles needs to crack the whip a little bit around here. Seventeen penalties is atrocious. This week's game is the last real game for the starters to play significant time. No more sluggishness. That first half against the Giants needs to be a good showing.

mauldin should be in the convo to start this year...get him out of the game.

Good for Miles. I like him a lot.

Anyone saying Mauldin wont make team is misguided......he is good now...imagine how electric and exciting he could be with the first team defense and theother offense's attention divided on everyone else freeing him up...

1) Penalties killed/helped to kill first 2 drives

2) They look like offense is scripted..no matter what down and distance

3) Cople cant cover in space like we knew

Time to turn on the DONALD FOX NEW

Not penalties...special teams in the 2nd drive. Remember the Hester return..

Meant offensively..both drives to start game had penalties mess them up....

It was two plays that destroyed the defense yesterday. The long completion to the fullback for 60+ yards and Hester's return. I think our defense this year will be a more bend but don't break team. If that is going to be the case, then we need to own the field position battle.

Hopefully, Bowles learned yesterday what we all knew. Cople should not be dropping back into coverage. Bring that guy up the middle or the ends. Pure blitzer

My assessment of watching Fitz over the past two games is he is your basic, play it safe to the MAX and check down king of QBs. Ofcourse this isn't news to anyone and we all know this but to see in action for two straight games is something else. I've never really watched or paid any attention to Fitz until now. Back to my point, Caption check-down can be an asset because he won't or you wouldn't expect him to turn the ball over as much as Geno, Sanchez or even a Petty. With that said, we can win 10-11 games with him if he play this way and limits the turnovers.

However; this puts much pressure on the D, o-line and running game in which this would of most likely been the case with Geno but for a different reason and that is the TOs. With Fitz, there will be a lot of three and outs and as we saw over the first two pre-season games. When he and the O can get it going they will score nicely but don't expect much of it. So the D, o-line and running game has to keep the games close for us to win. If they can do that, Fitz plays his basic, check-down and safe game and limits the TOs then we have a chance to win.

Problem is, what happens when we go up against high scoring teams the D can't do but so much? Or high powered defenses that can shut down our basic offense and not allow us to score what appears to be a 17 point offense max? Guess only time will tell but I'm trying my best to be optimistic here Jets faithful. It appears any pass over 25 yards and we might as well forget it. Looks to me like the pass will either fall short or get intercepted. I'm not sure if Fitz will even throw a pass over 25 yards to be honest, even if the play is designed to do so.

I truly am liking what I'm seeing from Petty and I think if he can show something the third game, they should consider giving him the nod as starter. Petty passes looked sharp and he has a much better then an average NFL arm. Question is, has he grasped the NFL other aspects of the game, majority and leadership qualities and he probably has not. Give him a year on the bench to learn and I think we will have something special. I want to see him playing from game one now but that will probably hurt more then help. J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets

yeah, they just didn't seem to be on the same page last night. Hopefully against the Giants they will look more in sync
