I predict that the running game will now revert to being putrid. The one plus that Geno gave the jets was the ability to throw outside the numbers and deep. No 8-man boxes. With Fitz, our opponents can put 9 men in the box if they so choose. Once Petty does get to play, we should see an improvement in the running game because teams will have to respect his arm strength.

Agree. I'm no expert, but it did appear to me that when Geno was in the game it opened up the defense a bit. Would have liked to see him in there long enough to take some shots downfield. He hits on one or two, things really open up. Thats the big issue with Fitz, his physical limitations can't overcome simple constraints that the defenses put on him.

Fitz/Geno forget wasting time on! Petty just back from injury cant start. So that leaves 2nd round pick Mackenburg who the reason for Drafting was he knows & played a pro style Offense! So Mackenburg has a bigger advantage over the current 4 rookie QB's that started this season & all have done well, even 4th round Dak of Dallas! So lets see Mackenburg for 10 games & I dont want to hear BS that he isnt ready when 4 rookies who never played in a Pro Style in College are in & doin g fine! If Jets dont start Mackenburg its because of the REAL reason...he is a 6th round pick or a BUST like the Entire NFL Teams & Scouts have said. I think Mikey Mac is covering Mackenburg draft mistake if he doesnt play him. So lets see him play

We did in preseason and he was horrible....

We seem to have a lot of qb gurus here. I see a lot of suggestions regarding petty and hacks ability to play despite the public having zero access to the progress of these 2.
Coach Bowles wants to win, if petty could come in and light it up, Bowles would play him in a heartbeat.

Last 2 QB's we rushed on the field are mark Sanchez and geno Smith. Let's rush pretty onto the field, great idea, because you want to see him sink or swim.

& like most defensive minded head coaches, they trust their jobs with seasoned QB's over upstarts.....

I understand the psychology behind wanting Petty to be the QB: He is neither Fitz nor Geno. However, there is an *assumption* by some of you that Petty is a proven commodity. That is simply irrational. WE just don't know. There are some aspects of Bowles' coaching that I'm not crazy about, but the man played defensive back in the NFL. Yet, some of you, who never sniffed the league are sure that you know better than he does when a QB is ready??? Seriously?? By the way, I am not a Fitz supporter. Feel free to check my post about him when he first became the starter. I hope that Petty is ready soon, but I trust the opinions of a former player more than i trust the rants that appear so frequently on these pages.

This is very true and i 100% trust management that when the time is right Bryce will see the field. Sure there has been many downers than ups this season. THough one constant that i actually give the benefit of the doubt is how we're grooming the young QB's.

Rushing Bryce is just the worst thing to do. We all knew that he came from a "NONE-PRO" style offense. Where it was mainly read two or throw it away. There aren't many progressions in the Baylor offense. Its quick. If its not there...go onto the next play. If anyone feels thats an easy transition, just look at RG3 when he couldn't use his legs any more.

The Jets are moving onto the direction of Bryce Petty sooner rather than later. Hopefully Fitz can turn it around and win us some more games to allow Bryce to progress and develop more.

I'm starting to get the feeling either Gailey or Bowles (or both) don't really like this guy......

I don't see it this way at all. I feel like they drafted Petty with a plan in mind as they did Hack.
There is no reason to rush him to apease the masses. We did that with Mark and Geno. No one knows how Bryce is progressing more than Chan.
By the way Fitz called out management, i feel Bowles cant wait until Chan honestly gives Todd the full green light on allowing Bryce to take the full reigns.

Give it time brother. I feel if groomed the right way, he will surprise many,

Fans over simplify constantly. Rush Aaron Rodgers game 1,and maybe he would have gone down a different path, instead he learned watching a hall of famer do it the right way. Maybe he would have torn his knee up on a sack.

I think they only drafted Hack because they had already drafted Petty.

What I mean by that is, Petty gave them the luxury of swinging for the fences. Petty doesn't have quite as high a potential ceiling as Hack, but he has a much higher floor. He is far less of a chance to bust.

Hack, though, could either show those physical skills that got him so highly recruited, or he could completely bomb. Higher ceiling than Petty, but also a lower floor.

We also rushed both of them in as rookies. Not a year and a half of being in the NFL. All Fitz can offer or has ever been able to offer is to totally screw up our draft position. One more game max for Fitz and lets see what we have. Fitz is a glorified QB coach at this point.

Makes a ton of sense to me, but what do I know.

A big question for the offseason is if you keep Fitz around as a mentor to at least justify the $5 million owed to him. Maybe his 'outburst' after the last game answered that question. I suspect that these 3 QBs will be in camp next year and one of the 2 young guys will win the competition. Depending how far along Hack is, will determine Fitz's fate.

I don't see Fitz being content to be a mentor. Plus, there is always more pressure on the starter because of Fitz's presence.

There are few guys I would want more to mentor young QBs, especially in Gailey's system, than Fitz. But his history here makes that difficult, if not impossible.

The ideal situation involves Petty showing enough to go into next season as the #1, the team signing a veteran backup, and letting Hack continue to develop. This provides both time for Hack and a safety blanket if Petty is not the answer.

all of it... 5 days after the Super Bowl he will receive it as compensation for this season...

it was how the Jets were able to give him his pay for this year, we couldn't fit it all under this year's cap...

as it shows 2017 base salary $0...

Reading a great espn article about parcels and romos path to the nfl. Undrafted out of a small school. It really provides great insight into Parcells and how he treats QB's. Bowles is a Parcells disciple.
Bill Parcells: "When you have a young quarterback from a smaller school, you're not gonna throw this guy to the wolves. That would've been a disastrous decision."

Patrick Crayton, Cowboys receiver, 2004-09: "Parcells had the three-year rule. First year, you get a pass while you learn. The second year, you gotta start showing me what you know. Year 3, I gotta see whether you can play or it's time to cut my ties with you."

Stephen Jones: "Bill was never in a hurry with Tony. Bill believes the best way to bring a young quarterback along is to let them watch."

Tony Sparano: "I remember Bill thinking this guy has a lot of ability and he can make plays, but we have to make sure he's ready when he went into a ballgame because there was no turning back."
