To quote Stubby Kaye in the airport scene in Mad Mad Mad Mad World when Paul Ford was trying to talk down Buddy Hackett and Mickey Rooney:

"Why don't we just shoot them down and be through with it?"

As much as the general consensus (and i'am one of them) believe Geno isn't the right guy...

Lets see how he does. The guy is in his contract year. It seems anyone in their respective final year plays ridiculously outstanding. WHo knows, maybe it all comes together for him and year 4 truly is what everyone says its all about-coming of age.

Geno finally viewed the game from the sidelines. Something i vyed for for the longest when he was drafted. He had no buisness being thrown out there in '13 and '14. Yet we judge him by. I'am full guilty of that too. Hopefully he shows something and pulls out a wn for us tomorrow and takes us on a winning streak we havent seen in ages.

Lets rally around this guy. Hell, this will also help Bryce learn as well while he isnt rushed back. Remember, Petty comes from a very similar offense Geno ran at West Virginia. If we rush him, then he'll be placed into the same predicament Smith is in. Perceived by many as a failure.

actually Bryce Petty ran a similar style to what Chan Gailey runs... Baylor was a vertical spread passing attack... Geno in college ran screens and slants in college at WVU... the reason he had good stats was YAC by the receivers which was misleading to how good or average Geno was...

Your probably right.

It's hard to re-tweak my thinking of Geno because of the style of QB he is. I've watched countless QB's that remind me so much of Smith through the years. Two university of Houston signal callers always come to mind:

Andre Ware and David Klingler.

Both promising young kids with a bright future who were forced onto the playing field too soon. They failed and failed miserably. They were very high draft choices for their respective organizations. Fans turned on them immediately. They just could not develop and transition to a pro style offense.

This is why i'am enamored by how the Jets organization is grooming Bryce the right way. No rush. Don't listen to fans, not lending an ear to the media who are just ready to call Petty a bust.
Let the kid get all the fundamentals of the game off the field first and foremost then apply them onto the field when the time is right.

As for Geno. This is his fourth year. Lets see if all the pouting and the "Antsy-ness" is on full display that he is ready to play in this league. If he is not. Then I'am more than sure Woody will want to appease the fans and get Bryce in there ASAP. Hopefully it doesn't hinder his progression.

Two very good back to back posts Dan.

Just curious what you folks all see in Petty or is it just give someone a chance and you never know what will happen?

He looked good in a couple of preseason games against guys who would get cut by opening day. If that was enough to generate such confidence, wouldn't Matt Simms be the QB today (or Jim Corcoran in the 60's)?

Perhaps my feelings about Petty are tainted by the two horrible practices this year I saw when he couldn't make any throws at all, but I am wondering what I am missing that y'all see

Prototypical size, displays enough functional movement outside the pocket... He is known as a strong leader, very competitive... He is tough and smart... Plays through minor injuries... Very good deep ball accuracy and understands when to throw the fastball and when to use touch... He sets his feet with good balance on his delivery... Quick high release... Nearly never under throws deep passes... Understands on how to buy time and elude pressure to give his receivers more time...

I'm starting to get the feeling either Gailey or Bowles (or both) don't really like this guy......

I knew Bowles would go back to Fitz, thats why I got zero enjoyment out of beating the Ravens.

At best it was bitter sweet because I know how Bowles operates, he's always taking what he perceives as the safe choice, I knew he would be too chickenshit to give the ball to Petty next week following a win, even if we won in spite of Fitzpatrick.

I understand the psychology behind wanting Petty to be the QB: He is neither Fitz nor Geno. However, there is an *assumption* by some of you that Petty is a proven commodity. That is simply irrational. WE just don't know. There are some aspects of Bowles' coaching that I'm not crazy about, but the man played defensive back in the NFL. Yet, some of you, who never sniffed the league are sure that you know better than he does when a QB is ready??? Seriously?? By the way, I am not a Fitz supporter. Feel free to check my post about him when he first became the starter. I hope that Petty is ready soon, but I trust the opinions of a former player more than i trust the rants that appear so frequently on these pages.

Lol, that's how you set em straight and chin check em, Including me! I never thought of it like that but it is true. Can't speak for everyone but for me, I just can't take it anymore seeing that hack of a QB in fitzgarbage on the field anymore. Being patient is the key but that is a hard thing to do. What your saying makes since but you may never convince some people like Mainejet and a few others who is just dead set that TB is a moron. Even if we won a SB with him, they would probably say the same thing about him.

Just like the group of giants fans that hate eli. Wait until he retires, then tell me what you think of Eli as a giant.

I will hope for Fitz to struggle vs Browns so Petty can get in the game. I'm sure Fitz will continue beating up on bad teams.

I wonder if we will dress all three this week. If you recall, last week after Geno was injured the next man up after Fitz was Bilal Powell. Powell was held out to avoid injury. Luckily we didn't need him, but to have to hold back arguably your best RB is bad planning IMHO.

They asked Bowles if he'll suit up 3 QBs yesterday and he said no

No sense suiting up Hackenburg at all this year. Hasn't he just been taking snaps with the scout team?

Also nothing makes me madder than JETS humiliated & beaten down like a College team on NATIONAL TV!!!! Other ones are getting beat by big scores by PATRIOTS! I dont mind losing a close game & we should be able to keep it close! But JETS are not even competitive at all & its due to GAILEYS OFFENSIVE SCHEMES! WHY cant JETS see this? Why cant Bowles order Gailey on the field so he can talk to him & have a feel for the Offensive Players? Why isnt the QB change happening last week & this week? FIRE GAILEY LIKE BILLS & RAVENS DID to their OC & TRY PETTY & HACKENBARFF at QB. I'm embarrassed to wear my JETS gear after last nights horrible Offense & no heart on entire team except for Brandon Marshall & Williams.

I can see where you think this way;however, if there are weakness in the OL or lack of execution, then it's not the OC plan that is at fault. It is the players or injuries etc. Cam Newton was going to the HOF last year and this year they are 1-5. Your logic is not correct.

That's what it is. Good post above mentioning all of the reasons to like Petty, but that is all draft hype- not saying it isn't true, but it's true to the degree that a 4th round pick is likely to display those attributes on an NFL field.

I know how Bowles operates, he's always taking what he perceives as the safe choice, I knew he would be too chickenshit to give the ball to Petty next week following a win, even if we won in spite of Fitzpatrick.

Agree it was a safe bet, but I don't know if it's as much him being chickenshit as it is the standard mindset of a young defensive-minded coach in his first HC gig. They all seem to start out with "let's play great D - oh, yeah, O- you guys try not to lose the game, k?"
