may we should be able to shoot people who look at us the wrong way

In Florida, not for looking at someone the wrong way, but if a person commits an assault on you, that you perceive as an attack, yes, you can shoot them. I know it's not that way in NY or NJ, and that's just one of the reason I live in Florida

In no way do I think IK was "defending himself from a potential physical assault". Based on what we've heard so far, it's MUCH more likely he was acting out of anger, not self-defense.

Having said that, I'll echo Blindside's disbelief with today's society, but in the other direction. I guess I'm old now (43) because I remember a day when getting in someone's face led to getting punched WAY more than it led to any act of self-control. Doesn't make it right -- just real. I guess we're so PC now that we can judge from afar and say what someone should have been thinking/doing, when in reality he did what many here likely would have done.

And let's not overplay the broken jaw -- if you're upset about the punch, you have to be upset regardless of consequence. I doubt IK went into this hoping to break Geno's jaw, and if Bowles is a man of his word IK would have been gone even if his punch only resulted in a paper cut . . .

I am sure I wouldn't..but I wouldn't criminally assault someone over it....

and in the "hood" this leads to more guys getting blown away shot than anything...a guy waves a finger..a guy punches him and then the guy gets shot
I would not exactly call 78th st and 18th ave Bensonhurst in the 60's the hood. I will say this for the last time once you have played by the Marquess of Queensberry rules and got messed up for it IMO waiting and hoping someone brazen enough to step in your face does not have something bad in mind for you is not the best plan of action.

so you are basically saying that if what geno allegedly did in the lockerroom happened to you in florida, something you have called an assault, that you would have no problem shooting that person?

nick, i'm sorry what happened to you in the past happened. i like and respect you.

but do you think what happened to you is comparable to this lockerroom incident between geno and IK? granted none of us were there and we are going on unnamed sources giving out tidbits. but do you think IK had reason to believe he was in danger of being physically harmed by geno and acted in self-defense?

I have a ton of respect for you also Gregg the thing that gets me is Geno escalated it by walking across the room to IK. He does not do that IK is on the team and Geno is playing, None of us know what exactly was said but we all know who got them in punching range and like I said before the 1st punch is better than a possible 2nd if you are lucky enough to be able to throw it.

I guess self control is an ancient, outdated concept around here. The comparisons of each player in relation to blame here is disturbing. Don't give me this Geno deserved it crap. That's ridiculous. You can blame Geno for being immature. You can blame him for not paying back a debt. You can blame him for not having the respect of the team.

But please don't equate his actions with IK's. There's an ENORMOUS difference between arguing with a guy and breaking a guy's jaw. I don't give a rat's ass if Geno put his finger in IK's face. You don't knock a guy out for that. What is this? The mafia? The Wild West? I cannot believe some of what I'm reading from some of you guys.

that is where we don't know did geno walk over in a normal walk, did he walk over like he was going to do something did he run over

i could certainly see a case where IK thought hey he is coming at me it's on

If a man comes at you in the middle of a heated argument, I would say that's a threatening action. If that man also raised his hand and put it in your face, I would also say that is a threatening action. I was raised to defend myself. I was raised that if you are in a situation like that you get the first punch off and knock that f*&^%r out.
Born in Brooklyn - Williamsburg/Greenpoint - Skillman Ave and Lorimer St to be exact.... I am not a thug, I am not a violent person but I will punch anyone that comes at me in that manner. IK needed to be cut but if these reports are 100% accurate Geno is 100% to blame

You are the QB of the team. Team leader; you do not let a situation like this happen you pay the man the $600 and maybe do something to go above and beyond making him happy and showing your teammates the type of leader and person you are..... oh wait... he did...

I don't call it an assault, the law does. Assault
Definition

1. Intentionally putting another person in reasonable apprehension of an imminent harmful or offensive contact. No intent to cause physical injury needs to exist, and no physical injury needs to result. So defined in tort law and the criminal statutes of some states.

I'll tell you a story that happened when I first moved to Florida. I was standing out in front of my office smoking a cigarette about 10am. A car pulled up across the street. A girl in her early 20's got out with a big guy mid 40's. (turned out it was her step father, and he was from LI. The girl went up to the door, the big guy stood bock about 10 feet. When the door opened the girl, and the young guy who opened it, started screaming at one another. The big guy started screaming at the kid. The kid kept on yelling at him "Get off my F N property". The big guy raised his hand and started coming at him, Bang, Bang. The big guy got shot in the chest twice and died.

The cops came and asked me what I saw. I told them. The girl, as hysterical as she was , said pretty much the same thing.

They took the kid with them. when I went to work the next morning, the kid was home. No charges of any kind were pressed.

Wouldn't have shot Smith in a locker room, figure he wasn't armed, I would have hit him, but if it happened from a stranger in the street.......... I don't know

that's what Bowles said in his presser. I'm going with that over "sources".

I watched the press conference, and read the transcript of the press conference which is on the Jets website if you care to look.

He didn't say what you claimed he said.

You made up shit, claimed that the head coach said it.

I called you on your bullshit, now your backpedaling and trying to cover up the fact that you posted false information and attributed it to the head coach.

Just accept the fact that I caught you and mov be on.

And I thnk the players might be angry about what Bowles said. I'm going with what people who were there are saying. Bowles wasn't.

Bowles used the word "cold-cocked" to describe the incident between IK and Geno. Called it "childish."

I just posted the tweets backing my belief. You can disagree all you want. cut out the language and speak intelligently. I'm certainly not back tracking from you or anyone else. it seems like there's more JetsInsider crap here then I originally thought.

not really. it was a sucker punch according to Bowles with Smith sitting on a stool with his back turned. Bowles said players rushed right over and stopped it. think Bart is just morphing into a talking head just like the ones he used to hate.

You claimed that Bowles said that Smith was sitting on a stool with his back turned. (See above.)

Bowles never said that.

I'm right, you're wrong. Move along.

IK was threatened by Geno Smith now. Now the story is really starting to go off in another direction. I'll repeat what Hobson asked: does anyone really think IK was afraid that Geno was going to take him down? I've witnessed heated arguments all the time between guys going nose to nose with no punches thrown. Is Geno Smith really going to kick IK's butt in this instance? Let's remember how big each one of them is b

We're reaching now. I think some personal dissatisfaction with Geno the player is starting to surface here among some posters.
