and i've seen reports that geno said he would pay him back. now i agree that geno was delinquent in paying him back and rightfully should be criticized for that and for letting the situation getting to the point it did. but nowhere has it been shown that geno said he won't pay him. we don't know what the quote "what you gonna do about it" was in reference to. you just assumed that geno told IK that he would never pay him back.

i'm not really looking to defend geno. he shares responsibility for letting the situation get to the point it did. but given none of us know exactly what went down, we can't just assume geno told IK he would never pay him back.

of course this is all irrelevant. you hate geno and now you seem to hate anyone who actually defends geno. i look forward to your posts this coming year deriding and mocking marshall...
You have me all wrong on Marshall. I think he was a great addition by Mikey Mac and he and Decker will be a fabulous duo at WR for the Jets.

My only problem is that his statement about Geno's part in the altercation is 180 degrees different from the previously reported accounts of the incident.

Obviously he is Smith's friend and I guess I would say stuff to support a friend too. But dozens of eyewitness accounts say a finger was pointed in a face and the direct quote reported was "I'm not paying back the money, now what are you gonna do about it?"

"Breno Giacomini was quick to react when asked whether Geno Smith was losing the faith of the Jets' locker room in light of last week's jawbreaking incident.

"No," Giacomini, the Jets' starting right tackle, told NJ Advance Media after a training camp practice in Florham Park over the weekend. "That's our guy. Nobody's losing faith in nobody, especially in the locker room."

Giacomini's on-the-record defense of Smith—along with one from wideout Brandon Marshall—stands in contrast to the various reports from last week that cast aspersions on Smith and his ability to command respect within the locker room.

"I do believe in him," Giacomini said. "I've been basically to war with him. I feel bad for him. he was working his butt off—and it showing, man, you know? This offseason has been better than what I've seen. His confidence in the huddle, his leadership off the field. It's just a very unfortunate situation."

I'm surprised at the level of childishness. I probably shouldn't be, as there were obviously a few of those types on the old scout who made it over here. And maybe I'm naive, but it just seems like some of the attacks here are so petty and juvenile, it's ridiculous.

Agreed

Very impressive

The guy who has been booted off a number of teams for being a bad locker room presence and who is currently living with (and probably sleeping with ) the defendant offers his unbiased eyewitness testimony that the glove didn't fit so the defendant is innoc

well excuse me for thinking you are not a fan of marshall. i guess it was the post where you said he is living (and probably sleeping) with geno that led me to believe you didn't like him. or maybe the part about you mentioning what a bad lockerroom presence he is. yup, that seems like you think he is a great addition to the team...

as to the quote, i've seen reporting about the "what are you going to do about it" line. i've never seen one report where some source says geno said "i'm not paying back the money". if you have a link to such words being attributed to geno, i'd like to see it. that would definitely add some clarity to the discussion.

People that like Geno and people that hate Geno have made up their mind way before these events took place.

Only way this debate is settled is when we see these guys take the field.

I dont 100% agree with this, as someone placed in the Geno camp. I've even started a response to renegade on another thread that I didnt finish typing.

There is still a minimal lvel of uncertainty with Geno some people want to see pan out. is there a 20% or 10% chance he's a good NFL QB? Probably...which isnt enough for some or higher than some believe...fine. But there is still a small % Geno and Gailey can be something.

Ive said 100 times, even if Geno sucks in the preseason, bench him and go with Fitz week 1. Now we're going with Fitz week 1 no matter what.

No matter what anyone says, Fitz sucks. The entire league knows he sucks. There's no way any NFL GM says we're Ryan Fitzpatrick away from being good.

Even last year when everyone says "look how amazing Ryan Fitzpatrick was!" They're just being lazy, Ryan Fitzpatrick was 9 TDs - 0 INTs vs Titans, Jags, and Raiders, 8 TDs and 8 INTs against everyone else.

He isn't good, has been on 3 teams in 3 years for a reason, and has never won more than 6 games in a season. When your QB decision gets to Ryan Fitzpatrick...it's your last option, no other choice, your season is over. I know some hold out on hope, but if the Patriots were going into this season with Ryan Fitzpatrick at QB, we're all be high-fiving on the board.

truth is, if Fitz looks better, let's play him and pray for a miracle...but I don't believe that every Geno supporter believes he will be a success...I just know what I have in the other guy and hold out hope Gailey and Geno can get on the same page. if they can't, go with Fitz and hope it's not much worse than Geno...but Im not foolish enough to say a guy who has never won 7 NFL games can win 12...just cant bring myself to do it...and he;s had lots of chances (including last year with a top 7 defense and top 5 running game and was still 6-6). It's not being down on Fitz, it's he is what he is...a bottom 5 starting QB in the NFL...but so is Geno. We're not splitting the atom here, we're praying for a miracle for either of them to be any good...shouldnt be a shock to anyone.

I've decided to stop talking about Smith.

He's no longer the QB of the Jets and so it's time to move on to discussing Fitzpatrick and Petty and the vet they sign when cuts are made who will be on the roster this season

And the eventual 2016 competition for the QB job between Fitzpatrick,.Petty and the 2016 draft pick they add from the terrific 2016 draft class

So consider me done on the subject of you know who. I wish him luck with whatever team in whatever league he ends up in after the Jets waive him NLT the end of this season

probably not a huge difference, but fitz was 6-5 last year. hard to attribute the 6th loss to him in a game where he threw 6 passes and suffered a broken leg early in the game.

Frankly, not much. But something is better then nothing and right now he is a distraction and a S***y QB to boot.

jets can free up 200k this year and $1.3 mill next if they cut him; if this management team felt that way, he'd be gone by now.

i did. and there are no quotes saying what said.

so again, until proven otherwise, i will assume you just made that part up. and so will the other posters here.

here are ryan clark's words:

http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2015/08/ex-nfl_safety_ryan_clark_says_jets_geno_smith_not.html

Clark offered the following account of what happened Tuesday, which The Big Lead's Jason McIntyre transcribed:

"It became about the fact that Geno wasn't necessarily apologetic, and being in a way remorseful about the money, when saying he was going to pay IK back. You know, he didn't, and he was rather smug about it. So these guys got into it earlier in camp about this money. My report says Geno put his finger in [Enemkpali's] face and told the guy, 'Well, you're not going to do anything about it.'

"This wasn't the first time they had an issue over this same situation, and nothing came from it the first time. You know, the first time they got into an argument, you know, words were said, disrespect thrown both ways, both guys separate and walk away. So when you have that situation happen one time, I'm sure a lot of people weren't expecting it to get where it's gone."

Hard to argue with that. Right now I think he stays on the team, and unless Bowles really hates him, probably next year to while they find/develop his replacement. Think the only thing that might change that is if they add a young veteran QB, like maybe Glennon, or if they feel Petty is ready to be the future

I think that is the disconnect that we are having here on this board. I would label myself as a Geno supporter but that's because I want to give him a chance to play out. If he falters than by all means get him out of here. I'll be the first to call for his head.

Geno haters don't want to see him out on the field at all. They've seen enough.

http://nypost.com/2015/08/12/smug-geno-smith-goaded-his-sucker-puncher-ex-player/

It started with a dare.

Ryan Clark, an NFL analyst for ESPN, gave a blow-by-blow Wednesday morning of how the drama between Jets quarterback Geno Smith and now-former reserve linebacker IK Enemkpali unfolded after speaking with two players who were in the locker room.

Smith “put his fingers” in his teammate’s face before he was sucker-punched, sustaining a broken jaw that will sideline him for at least six weeks.

“These guys were in each other’s face,” Clark said on ESPN’s radio show “Mike & Mike.” “Geno put his finger in his face and told the guy, ‘Well, you’re not going to do anything about it.’”

He was wrong, as the tough-guy comments caused Enemkpali to knock Smith to the ground with a single punch. The trouble started when Enemkpali laid out $600 for Smith to travel to a football camp in July. Weeks went by and he didn’t get reimbursed.

“It became about the fact that Geno wasn’t necessarily apologetic and being in a way remorseful about the money when saying he was going to pay IK back and he didn’t,” said Clark, a former safety with the Steelers, Redskins and Giants. “He was rather smug about it.”

Clark knows from his own dealings with Enemkpali that the hulking 24-year-old doesn’t mess around when it comes to his money.

“This guy is really tight about money, he really is,” Clark said. “He couldn’t [move on].”

He added he’s spoken to Enemkpali since the fight, saying he was “extremely apologetic.”
