Even though Jon Gruden has said the same kind words about virtually every QB drafted since he retired from coaching and became a media expert.

You know how long I have been frustrated with fans convinced of their own opinions over those of guys who have spent their lives in the game.
Not everyone, just certain people who have a personal beef with Geno for whatever reason. Geno can win us a SB this year and they will still have something negative to say.

And if they run Smith out there again in 2015 and he drops us to 2-14 or less, one broken record will still be playing a positive tune about him

I do think he'll be on the roster. He's cost effective and under control through 2016. At worst, he'd be a decent backup. As far as starting goes, Smith has an opportunity between now and camp(unless we somehow get Winston or Mariota) to earn his keep. Fitzpatrick won't be ready until july. If he doesn't show improvement, Fitzpatrick will take over come training camp. I believe the new regime will put the qb who performs the best out there week one regardless of his name.

It's not a matter of "keeping Geno" as there's absolutely no reason to cut him at his current price/situation. And whether he starts or not may be more of a reflection on the competition than on management's opinion of Geno himself . . .
