Gotta make this trade for the long run...

Exactly. And Mac is not going to give in and give him JJ money. And if you do, Sheldon's going to ask for more in 2 years. Leonard after that.

Let's say Mo can sign with the Jets for $12mm, $13mm, $14mm, $15mm all guaranteed. That's $54mm over 4 years plus about $16mm he's earned so far. That ain't hay. That's supporting your family for life and then some. If Mac is offering that then he should take it. If he's not then I don't blame Mo.

Gang Green Nation reporting this morning that the Bears have enquired about Mo 'more than once', as have other teams. And the Bears have the cap space. Gotta think Mac is confident he can get what he's looking for in a trade near the draft. Still think a second and fourth gets it done. Not sure if there's anyone on the Bears roster that's worth throwing in instead of a second pick. If not I really believe 6 picks in the first 4 rounds brings in lots of needed talent. That includes an OL which means Giacomini can be cut which, along with Mo off the books, frees up $20mm of cap space. Draft David Harris' replacement and you add another $7.5mm off the books for next year.

Agree Mydog, but I think Taiwan Jones is the heir apparent to Harris' spot.

Mac did what he had to do last year to make the Jets a respectable team again after years of mismanagement. I think even he was surprised by how quickly that happened. This year Mac realizes he needs to make moves to make this team younger and set them up for the future. In order for that to happen, he needs to draft D'Brick and Harris's replacements for 2017 and will need to replace Mangold, Brandon Marshall and possibly Decker for 2018. Add to that finding their QB and OLB of the future which I think will need to be put off until next year's draft. In order to that to happen the Jets cannot afford the embarrassment of riches they currently have at DL.

you hit a lot of nails on the head..

hopefully mac & gailey feel good enough about what petty can be that we don't reach on a QB in the 1st or 2nd round, this april or next..

not to say we should stop drafting QB's simply because we already have petty on the roster..

I hope you are right about Petty as well, certainly would allow us to fill other holes with premium pick. I have us taking Lynch with #20 in the JFU thread, but even if he is the long term answer he won't help this year.

I completely agree. A few guys I would keep an eye on in the middle to late rounds are Brandon Allen and Kevin Hogan. Neither have guns for arms but both are smart, game managers and are more NFL ready than some of the others. Hackenburg is a guy I would not draft.

I am tired of these weak arm QB's like Chad. Get me a Bradshaw/Namath type anyday.......

It will be a cash line if they overpay MO. This time I agree with Woody & Big Mac...but is keeping him for another year worth a trip to the SB?????????

Maybe Tom wants to be on top for a change:global (47):

Do you mean the $100mm+ that Brady makes isn't enough for him to be generous??? Do you really think his wife's fortune is the reason he left money on the table to continue winning? I don't.

Do you think the $75mm+ that Mo will make in his career isn't quite enough? Sorry but I'm just not buying it. The bottom line is guys in the upper echelon of the NFL will have more money then they or their family will ever need. The difference here is that some players feel winning a super bowl (or five) is worth the discount.

What is enough money lets say I was in Mo's shoes I might want to buy the Jets someday or the SS United States. who knows what people want to do with their money. But there is the Brady type. I guess we have the one that wants the most

I propose trading Mo and our 4th to the Raiders for their 2nd and 3rd and draft...

#20 - Reggie Ragland or Darren Lee, LB

#44 - Jason Spriggs or Germain Ifedi, OT
#51 - Kendall Fuller, CB

#75 - Yannick Ngakoue, OLB
#83 - Deon Bush, S

#157 - Devontae Booker, RB

#241 - Jack Allen, C

Mac officially puts D'Brick, Mangold, Harris and Gilchrist on notice. Take a serious pay cut or be gone! The linebackers are younger and faster. The secondary retools. And the RB of the future has arrived.

The Jets have been inexplicably quiet and that fact that we are just about completely out of cap space (with players still to draft & sign) I'm just waiting for the windstorm to hit. I think there are several players that will be cut or reworked.

Last year showed me one thing, Mac knows what he is doing, he is a great at evaluating talent, and he isn't afraid to take some risks. After our offseason last year I'm really not expecting us to just sit tight with our hands in our pockets and say "lets see what happens". He is setting us up for the future and his stance with Mo and Fitz is setting a precedent for all of our other players coming up for free agency. Mac is a stone cold poker player and he is calling everyone's bluffs. He'll make the necessary moves and trades and I fully expect us to improve next season.

Only a couple of weeks before the draft so things are about to get interesting :bananapartyhat:

I agree on the Mo & fitz thing...he needs to show the Jets are not a cash cow. He needs to show me he is a complete GM. I won't put the belt around his waist yet. He is no hulk Hogan Yet:global (20):
