He has great intangibles but I prefer Grayson in the later rounds after the top three QB'S are gone
What do you think of Petty? Walters mock has us taking him in the 4 th round

i'm not a college football guy.. all i want to know is petty a kid we should take a flyer on.. clearly it looks like the jets can draft him if they want him.. would you??
He has the size and the arm needed to succeed. He has a lot of work to do to be a pro QB. If we took a flyer on him it would not be the worst move but I don't think he beats out Geno right away.
LOLz mariota probably wouldn't beat out smith year one either.. regardless what QB we draft a veteran QB needs to be brought in to complete for the starting job..
If we draft Mariota I don't think he should start right away but I disagree that he can't beat Geno out. I have stated in hundreds of posts between the sites we need to sign a vet plus draft a QB so I agree with that part.
i didn't say mariota "couldn't" beat out smith i said he probably "wouldn't" year one.. anyway, i hope we find out one way or another..

I think you're right and I think our resident Raiders fan (see above) telegraphed where this is headed. If I had it to do over again, I'd project White to the Raiders at #4 and Amari Cooper to the Jets at #6 , which I'm totally fine with, if you told me after we stupidly won that Miami game that we would still be in a position to draft Cooper I would have been thrilled, that kid has elite #1 WR written all over him too, but man that Kevin White is a beast.
I could see a scenario where the first five picks were this . 1. Tampa Bay - Winston 2 Titans- Leonard Williams 3. Some team trades up, or Jaguars pick him Kevin White ( Jaguars have a lot of money, and can address their defensive needs in Fa. White was that impressive. 4. Raiders- Amari Cooper ( they talk a lot of smoke with Gregory at the combine -Jmo this was for the Jaguars if they were thinking of trading back. nice fallback option. Redskins- Browns team trades up for Mariotta - Redskins regroup some of draft picks they lost for Rg111.
I'm sorry Gjh not trying to change the topic , and hijack your thread but under that scenario who would you pick for the Jets. 1. Winston 2. Willliams 3 K White 4 Amari Cooper 5. Mariota. 6 Jets ?

Gj&H Hypothetical question as I'm not trying to change your topic . ( just want to know what you think Jets would do under this scenario) What would you do if the First five Picks were this . 1 Tb- Winston 2. ten- Williams 3. Jaguars - Wr Kevin White( solve their defensive needs in Fa. 4 . Raiders -Amari Cooper 5. Browns- Mariotta ( Redskins get some draft picks) 6. Jets ? jets have a lot of very good pass rushers on board . who would you pick. Thanks .

I just wanted to thank the Hammer for taking the time to do this draft. It obviously is generating a lot of great discussion, and it has made me think a lot about what our options are at 6 and 37 and how our draft as a whole is going to take shape. Thanks!
Agreed completely. Ham's mock drafts, power rankings and KRL's camp reports have been some of the greatest reads on Jets message board!

But I have to admit that while I'm pretty sure Tampa will take a QB with the first pick, I'm not sure which one?
Two weeks ago I thought it would be Winston. Just prior to the combines heating up I thought Mariota, and now, after the combines and Winston's damn impressive display with Mooch (grasping terminology so quickly is huge), I'm probably leaning back towards Winston.
That said, Winston sliding to 10 was not suggesting he sucks. It was more about needs and value for the individual teams between 1 and 10. If I had Winston going #1 to Tampa, I would have had Mariota sliding to 10 too. IMO, BARRING A TRADE, there are only two teams in the TOP 10 who will take the other QB, the Jets or Rams, and if he gets by the Jets, that leaves the Rams. We see QB's slide every year and this is how it happens. That doesn't mean he sucks, there's just a lot of variables; bigger needs, higher graded players etc., but I don't believe Tennessee is taking a QB at #2 , I believe them when they say they like Mettenberger, there's no reason for them to lie about that and plenty of reasons to suggest the opposite if they want to trade the pick. The next three teams are all committed to young QB's, and after the Jets, 7, 8 and 9 all have veteran QB's with mega contracts, so do the Rams with Bradford, but at least he's in the last year of his contract and tradable. So I think its the Jets or Rams for the second QB, unless somebody (Eagles?) trades up for the other guy, which is entirely possible.
I just wanted to explain my thinking there because it was obviously the most controversial projection.
Oh and for the record, I think Winston and Mariota are good QB prospects, but not elite QB prospects. Thats why both will be closer to 10 than 1 when I put together my first big board.

Well guys, I'm a lot of things but I like to think that stubborn and stupid are not two of them. I like to think I can observe the evidence and not just bury my head in the sand. That said, its pretty obvious Winston impressed a lot of people at the combines, truth be told; including me, and he's now the overwhelming favorite to go #1 overall to Tampa, so I had to make the edit to my mock draft which now has Winston going #1. In my next mock I'll probably have Mariota going higher too, but for now I would have been obtuse not to correct the Winston projection.

If Mariota is out there at 6, he'll be #8 in Jet green and white IMO but I think he is Music City bound unless the Bucs take him at 1
I'll be happy with any of Mariota, Winston, White, Cooper, Williams or Fowler at 6

I could be wrong, but right now I really believe he will be there for us at 6 if we want him. Unless somebody trades up for him, which is entirely possible, but that aside, I don't believe Tennessee is taking a QB and once he gets past Tennessee, the next possible landing spot is us ... again, barring a trade.
I feel this way for two reasons. First because I genuinely believe the Titans are high on Mettenberger, and second because they hired Dick LeBeau and a stud 3-4 RUSH OLB is essential to make his defense work, and they are in a position to take whoever they determine to be the best 3-4 edge rusher in the draft, from a list of some elite edge rushing prospects.
