We know a couple things now about Robert Saleh and his desires on specific players/prospects so what if this occurred, could it -- should it I mean it makes sense and would make us a contending team not just next year but for years to come... We know Saleh loves his safety converted into linebackers prospects what about current safety professionals, would he dare to take some of the best safeties and make them our new starting outside linebackers?
Justin Reid current free safety for the Houston Texans right now is 24 years and UFA, sign him to a 5 year deal to play the weak side linebacker role... He has the coverage ability to shut down tight ends, speed to stay with running backs and the quickness to handle speedy slot receivers... He stands at 6'1" roughly 207 lbs which is slightly under what both rookies we drafted and converted...
Next
Terrell Edmunds just turned 25 last month (January), strong safety for the Pittsburgh Steelers could also make the conversion to Rush linebacker in this defense... He has shown the ability to be physical at the point of attack against tight ends, running backs and shade slot receivers with quickness... He also stands at 6'1" slightly heavier than Reid at 217 lbs but these two safeties would be a major upgrade to what we have now...
Opens the door for the Jets to be aggressive at the safety position... Ashtyn Davis to me is that hybrid guy who has the range to play nickel corner which leaves former converted corner and claimed safety as the backups for these two free agent signings:
Tampa Bay Buccaneers clearly are going to be more focused on scrambling after the Tom Brady retirement then focused on actual players hitting free agency... We know this the Bucs tried to trade for Marcus Maye, low ball offer and Joe Douglas left that conversation then Maye got hurt... Jordan Whitehead another 24 going to be 25 year old strong safety should hit free agency and would be an ideal free agent signing... Just believe Maye will end up back with Todd Bowles in Tampa... So Whitehead should choose to play elsewhere with that in mind...
New Orleans Saints are in cap nightmare mode reason why HC Sean Payton stepped aside... Free Safety Marcus Williams I think could be convinced to sign with the Jets, stand alone reason is Robert Saleh and his reputation... Explain the idea of Reid and Edmunds to Williams who might be intrigued to step in knowing that three of his fellow safeties all are signing 5 year deals with a plan to take this defense and secondary to another level...
Basically starting Linebackers would be:
Safety would look like this:
I know seems far fetched but this is how Saleh thinks and yes we could afford to make this happen would also gives us flexibility and a different style of attitude that teams have not seen before...
Thoughts???

Basically starting Linebackers would be:

Safety would look like this:
| FS Marcus Williams | SS Jordan Whitehead |
| FS Jason Pinnock | SS Elijah Riley |
