I looked on a Panthers website yesterday and folk there were unhappy with the state of the O line and crying out for their #1 pick to be used there. One guy said the Jets are a franchise that keeps pressing the reset button and will never succeed .

Valid critique, but it's because of two things.

1. Our previous GMs have drafted horribly, as their history suggests, and
2. When the Jets begin a rebuild, the pressure immediately mounts from the NY tabloids and some fans about wanting to be instantly credible. Long-term builds are pushed aside midstream for the instant credibility of the shortcut in free agency, but that never builds a true winner.

A few in the media make it sound like the trade was like Nolan Ryan for Jim Fregosi. They truly believe (their right) to say Sam
will do much better as a Panther. A great RB in McCafferty, re-united with Robby, etc. All true. They bring up Ryan Tannehill , Baker Mayfield and their improvement.
As Yogi said when hearing about the Francis Gary Powers-Russian spy swap, "it will help both teams".
darn when did that happen...man I always miss everything. I go for a beer & they trade Ryan.

Media can bullshit this anyway they want
Read the panthers forums
This is basically what they’re saying

“Teddy was mediocre, but a competent game manager with good skill players. Darnold has bee a complete dumpster fire, and you don't win more than 4 games with him unless he improves tremendously “

Good luck with that

Yeah as really hope that the Jets can find a player. That can be there for years to come. Just hope they can rebuild.

Their "O" line could use a little help, but.........they are nowhere near as bad as the "O" line that Sam had to play behind and he does have some good weapons to work with even before the draft. That one guy, whoever he is, is only partially correct. The Jets have hit the reset button several times in the last few years but I think most of us would agree that the reset was more in search of a quality GM and a coaching staff that could put a good team together and coach it well. As near as I can tell the general consensus among the people in he right position to know and most of the Jets fans I have heard from is that the Jets have finally taken care of that situation. Hopefully they are correct and the Jets are on their way up out of the bottom of the heap. :eyebrows:

So are we sure it’s Zach and not Justin ???
Draft analysers are now predicting that Fields isn't even the third QB taken, so it would raise some eyebrows if we took him at #2. The Jags aren't going to be fooled into dropping Lawrence. The other possibility is that Joe is letting Zach's stock rise so he has to give less makeweight in a trade for R Wilson or Watson, but we don't have the supporting cast to put around a known winner and it would be the opposite of resetting the QB salary clock.

Before the Darnold trade, media types that were talking to NFL GM’s, were saying the Jets would be lucky to get a 3rd rounder for Sam.
JD gets a 6th, a 2nd and a 4th rounder, then the narrative is, how great Sam will be now that he’s off that dumpster fire Jets team.
Everyone, but Jet fans, loves to dump on the Jets. Nobody wants the Jets to succeed because they would lose the easy target, their favorite punching bag.
JD saw Sam up close and personal, he watched his practices, game film, know what offense he was in and the difficulty with it.
He is not hanging his career on him, that tells you all you need to know. JD likes to build through the draft, he would most definitely get a boatload of premium draft picks to move down off of 2. He’s staying at 2 and replacing Darnold, that tells you how he feels about Darnold. He can soap it up anyway he wants, actions always speak loader than words.
When he says, if the Jets didn’t have such a high pick, he’d stay with Sam. Translation, if Sam was a better QB, the Jets woulda won more games and wouldn’t be in a position to draft his replacement.

I firmly believe that the financial reset with the rookie QB is the direction that JD is going. Adding Watson or Wilson with draft picks as bait and absorbing the cap hits for either with the roster that we have would be GM suicide IMHO.

Definitely starting with young QB. Wilson isn’t going anywhere and no one is touching Watson right now.
