Here is the ultimate question

why if you were deciding to draft KT or JJ at No. 4 would you bring in yet another veteran in Vinny Curry to the roster that is definitely getting bolstered at key positions? don't get me wrong I am not one for either of those prospects but then again if they are drafted then I will root for them nonetheless.

because now it looks like this is the starting lineup on the defensive line, I could be wrong but I just don't think I am.

LE Vinny CurryLDT John Franklin MyersRDT Quinnen WilliamsRE Carl Lawson

in a way with this signing kind of debunks us taking an EDGE early in the first. but now we also have the likes of Bradlee Anae, Bryce Huff and LB/DE Jacob Martin not to mention Jabari Zuniga, and not to mention Solomon Thomas can play both inside and at end for Saleh and Ulbrich's defense

They love to rotate guys to keep them fresh. I wouldn't be surprised to see more than one Edge drafted before all is said and done.

Vinny Curry is not stopping me from drafting any of the top tier Edge rushers in this draft .what signing him might do is allow me the chance to draft an Ojabo late in the 1st or early in the 2nd via a trade down .

The signings of Vinny Curry and Solomon Thomas mean very little in terms of addressing the defensive line. We are drafting defensive linemen in this draft. An Edge is all but certain.

Curry is a depth guy, and honestly could help teach a young edge that was drafted. This might make it MORE likely the Jets are going edge early.

JFM praised him for the help that Curry gave him last off season. But make no mind they are looking to veteran guys that can spot start in key situations. V.C. can start especially in a heavy rotation to keep guys fresh he is like Carl Lawson the most experienced and with him on one side and hopefully Lawson on the other would have both JFM & Q on the inside.

Well, let me respond with a question. With 2 early picks in a draft heavy with elite EDGE rushers and a need for EDGE rushers, why would you not draft and EDGE rusher but instead sign journeymen to play EDGE? If this is truly JD's plan then nobody should have any confidence in him. Even I give JD more credit than that.
Like others have said, the veterans are probably situational/rotational.

the ultimate question was...

i took that to mean as a mentor, advocate, etc to the DE's we are bringing in.

I think you nailed the playing time aspect as "situational/rotational."

better yet let's take a look at the roster with recent signings:

Jets have options at the defensive end positions in multiple formations
Carl Lawson, Vinny Curry and Jacob Martin. The key is JFM DE or DT we don't know.
Upside potential in Bryce Huff gives us another option as a spot starter.
The depth is the question, Bradlee Anae, Tim Ward, Hamilcar Rashed Jr.,
there is a question what is up with Jabari Zuniga they have his ERFA rights but yet to offer him a contract.

Hoping JFM is moved inside will then open who they might target for DE and not just DE but an EDGE.

We've already addressed, Safety, CB, and EDGE in FA. Our o-line is in good shape. There aren't any LBs around our drafting spots. This probably isn't the best draft to blindside Wilson and pick another QB early (and I'm not saying that this would even be a thought for the team right now). So who's left? WR, RB, TE ....with 4 picks in the top 40?!?

addressed tight end in free agency signing two.
need to draft at least one receiver to pair with Moore and Davis.
addressed one safety that plays in the box but the coverage safety is short term.
addressed corner in free agency but people are uncertain that it wasn't enough.
addressed defensive line with a couple of signings but long term potential is questionable.
addressed the front seven with some linebacker signings but there are still questions.
offensive line is curious subject, two competing for left tackle with the loser being awarded right tackle start <<< that to me is wrong.
offensive line at center, is under contract for next season but rumors he is not the guy for long term.
running back they have Carter, re-signed Coleman and have Austin Walter as the three. Ty Johnson & Perine are questionable.
blocking back, we have our full back re-signed but we also have a blocking tight end in Wesco.
quarterbacks from Mike White to ageless unvaccinated Joe Flacco does not put me at ease.
the real questions are they satisfied with the depth and key starters and if not will they address them in this draft?

2 fighting for LT, loser should end up on the trade block regardless of who it is.
Team should invest in a real IOL Center through the draft with the in house backup re-signed. allows the team to develop their own guy.
RB could draft someone on day 3 there is plenty of options like James Cook, UGA and Pierre Strong Jr. SDSU among others.
We know the Jets like five versatile receivers from Jameson Williams, Jahan Dotson, Bo Melton, Romeo Doubs and Taysir Mack
Jets also opened to drafting another tight end to pair with the 2 free agent signings.
they will add depth throughout the roster, but which positions will they target.

I see depth/competition pieces in Curry, Martin, and Huff. I see roster cuts in the rest. Lawson is the only Dawg. Let’s get an Edge early to really take this pass rush up a notch. It’ll benefit guys like JFM and Quinnen Williams inside, too.

My other big needs are WR1, FS, an “off ball”LB, and depth on the o-line, CB, and RB.

I keep seeing TE’s getting drafted by fans in the mid rounds and I honestly don’t get it. We just got two young, pretty good ones in FA.

if not mistaken I know you are a Kayvon Thibodeaux guy but the feeling from the front office they see red flags with him could be smoke but feeling is they won't draft him even if he is on the board when they pick.

reports of Jameson Williams not being ready until November/December has be defunct with the video Jameson posted post his surgery.

I still believe from talks inside the organization that there are now three teams have talked with Joe Douglas about moving up to fourth overall. the tenth overall makes more sense for us to use for many prospects.

I don't feel that we need to draft a CB, SAF or OLM early. Could have a luxury pick with TE while also grabbing at least one receiver. EDGE is not top need but at this point is a luxury pick with the moves on the roster. still feel IDL unless JFM is our 2nd DT is the starter then IDL is a NEED.
