It wasn't as much tunnel vision as it was pointing out that there needs to be consistency. Either record or head-to-head is the barometer. It can't be head-to-head when Rex is 8-8, but 2-0 against Bowles (10-6), but then record when Rex is 4-2 and Bowles 1-5, but Bowles is 1-0 against Rex.
There needs to be consistency. To me, I always prefer record, as well as the larger sample size. In both cases, since Bowles became the Jets' HC, he is 11-11, while Rex is 12-10, and Rex is 2-1 against him.
The thing is, I think Bowles could end up being a good HC some day. He was an excellent coordinator, and has the former player perspective that few current head coaches have. But it will take some time, and Jets fans would never remain patient for it.
