I want some bloody camp news.

I want to know how Mcdonald, Kuntz, and Abaniguadalajara are doing. My favorite youtube channel isn't providing it. One Jets Drive and Hard Knocks won't either. I miss the days when I could go myself and report on it. But I no longer live near the facility and they're charging admission to camp.

I was there Saturday. First of all, it was a ZOO! Huge crowds. Very positive. I haven't seen much of how McDonald is doing.

McGovern was taking a lot of snaps as the #1C. It will be up to Tipp to beat him out for the job.

Kuntz? I did not notice him much, but his mere presence has led to Ruckert taking a big step.

Kuntz is probably practicing with special teams and/or 2nd team. I was at Favre's first practice.

Consistently reading Garrett Wilson is shining and looks like a stud.

Becton got some kudos for good play and attacking defenders and stopping them in their tracks (that’s always good to hear). Max still running with the ones, so for now Becton & Mitchell have been the starting tackles

Turner has been getting the majority of first team reps over Becton. Becton is still working his knee into shape and has been limited in snaps.

I don’t want to jump on the Becton knee just yet. A lot of guys have been having leg stiffness and being held out here/there. He has a surgically repaired knee, some soreness is to be expected

7/26 practice

General Notes

- Practice ran 2 hours and 15 minutes

- Players in full pads

- Mekhi Becton was working on a side field with a trainer. I have no idea what his
issue was

- Strong bounce back performance by the defense as they won the day. The offense had
to do punishment "up downs"

1 on 1 Notes

- With pads on there was a period of OLine/DLine 1 on 1, some notable reps:
* Quinnen Williams pushed back Laken Tomlinson
* Zack Kuntz held his own as he fought off Tanzel Smart
* Jermaine Johnson, Will McDonald and Bryce Huff were hard to control
coming off the edges
* Connor McGovern was impressive as he "stalemated" Williams
* Billy Turner had difficulty in his reps as he was on "skates" and was
pushed back
* Joe Tippmann is very flexible for a tall center. He's able to stay low
to keep leverage and able to "re-anchor" his feet when he gets pushed back

7 on 7 Notes

- The defense clamped down on Aaron Rodgers during his reps forcing incompletions
on throws to Corey Davis, Garrett Wilson and Jeremy Ruckert

- Zach Wilson was sharper in his reps completing 20+ yard passes to Ruckert and
Xavier Gipson

Defense Notes

- The defense clamped down on the run game today and they also generated two INTs.
They recorded multiple TFLs some of the highlights were:
* Quinnen Williams with a TFL on Michael Carter
* John Franklin-Myers and Quincy Williams with a TFL on Carter
* Carl Lawson with a TFL on Carter

- Jermaine Johnson was all over the field today as he recorded two "sacks" and
was in the backfield multiple times on run plays

- In addition to his strong performance during 1 on 1 Bryce Huff also generated
a "sack" against Chris Streveler

- The range that Tony Adams showed in previous reports was on full display today.
On one play Rodgers checked a pass down to Carter and Adams closed from about 15
yards to stop the play for no gain. And finally he had a textbook INT as he came
from between the hashes to the right sideline to pick off a Rodgers 40+ yard pass
to Davis

- Finally rookie LB Zaire Barnes had a "pick 6" against Tim Boyle as he was in zone
and picked off a slant

Offense Notes

- On the #1 Oline Max Mitchell and Billy Turner have flipped positions. Mitchell
was at LT and Turner was at RT

- No real standout players on offense today

QB Notes

- It had to be a frustrating day for Aaron Rodgers. On his first rep during 11 on 11
there was a miscommunication which caused the offense to "re-huddle". In addition to
that the defense clamped down on his 7 on 7 reps (mentioned earlier) and he threw an INT.
And finally during a situation drill to end practice (41 seconds on the clock, the offense
is down 7-3, ball at midfield) Rodgers moved the ball into the red zone but couldn't
score as his pass to Davis was incomplete

- Zach Wilson continues to "find completions" and probably had the two "sexiest" plays
of the day. He found Alex Erickson (new WR) for a 50+ yard TD down the left sideline.
And during red zone Wilson found Jason Brownlee for a 20+ yard corner TD. During his
reps in the situation drill (mentioned earlier) Wilson found Xavier Gipson for 20+
yards that got him into the red zone. But he also wasn't able to get the offense into
the end zone

Standouts

- The defense
- Tony Adams
- Jermaine Johnson

Concerns

- Will be interesting to see how the offense bounces back tomorrow (my final practice)

    From KRL

    General Notes

    - Practice ran 2 hours and 20 minutes, there were more 11 on 11 periods
    added

    - Players in jersey and shorts for the final time before pads on Tuesday

    - Will McDonald was back at practice but didn't see any reps

    - Another "fight" broke out between Solomon Thomas and I think Laken
    Tomlinson

    - I have to correct a mistake I made about the returners, Xavier Gipson
is auditioning for the spot not TJ Luther

    - It was a fairly even practice but in my opinion the offense won the day
with a strong red zone period

    Defense Notes

    - Strong day for Michael Clemons as he had a "sack" of Zach Wilson. And
combined with Jamien Sherwood to produce a TFL on Michael Carter during
    11 on 11

    - Jamien Sherwood was active with the previously mentioned TFL he also
caused a fumble as he stripped Carter during 11 on 11

    - Quinnen Williams flashed today as he also got Carter for a TFL during
    11 on 11

    - Nice combo coverage by DJ Reed and Jordan Whitehead to break up a 50+
yarder from Aaron Rodgers to Allen Lazard

    Offense Notes

    - The offense pushed the ball down the field today which generated quite
a few "chunk plays". But they need to improve on the "back shoulder"
throws. Because there were a few miscommunications where the receiver
never turned around and the ball sailed out of bounds

    - Nick Bawden (FB) is carving out a role for himself in this offense.
He's not just a blocking back, he's very nimble in space and has very
good hands. He caught multiple balls from all the QBs and they weren't
just dump offs. Bawden is able to get down field and beat LBs, he caught
a 20+ yard "wheel route" from Chris Streveler during 11 on 11

    - TE is going to be a significant position in this offense, the question
is how many will be carried. Because Tyler Conklin, Jeremy Ruckert,
Kenny Yeboah and Zack Kuntz are the QBs "security blankets" during practice
and CJ Uzomah isn't even available. Conklin again caught a TD from Rodgers
during the red zone period and Yeboah scored a TD with a crazy one handed
    diving catch from Zach Wilson

    - Standing on the sideline makes it hard to analyze the middle of the OLine.
But two OT that stood out today where Max Mitchell and Mekhi Becton. Mitchell
is still running with the #1 and showed impressive movement/speed in getting
to the second level on an outside run by Carter for 10+ yards. As for Becton
he's striking DLinemen in the chest and stopping them in their tracks. If
he stays healthy it's going to be interesting to see where Duane Brown plays

    - Is Jason Brownlee the reason the team traded Denzel Mims? I would say yes
because so far he's doing everything we expected from Mims. He made an
outrageous catch over Bryce Hall (leaping over him and taking the ball away)
for 20+ yards from Wilson. What will help Brownlee make this team is he's
    already on special teams

    - Garrett Wilson was being targeted by Rodgers today and he made quite a few
    big plays:
    * 30+ yard TD where he found a seam in the zone and then ran away from the
    defense
    * During red zone Wilson made a diving TD catch as Rodgers put it where only
    he could catch it
    * When the defense came with a blitz Rodgers adjusted the play and found Wilson
    for a 15+ yarder

    QB Notes

    - Aaron Rodgers was sharp today and started to incorporate his "hand signals"
into reps to change receiver routes. One time he went through two sets of
signals and on the snap he found Lazard for a 50+ yard TD through the middle
of the defense. And as practice closed out he had TDs to Conklin and Wilson
    to close out practice

    - Nice follow up day by Zach Wilson as he continues to "find completions" and
move the ball. He's developing better chemistry with the TE (Yeboah) and RB
(Carter, Abanikanda) spots to pick up easy yards. Also, as Wilson finishes
his drop and hits his back foot the ball isn't being held like before

    Standouts

    - Garrett Wilson
    - Nick Bawden
    - TE spot
    - Mekhi Becton

    Concerns

    - The chemistry/sync on back shoulder throws has to improve

Jets Practice Report | Which Two Young Defenders Continue to Flash?

Jets Practice Report | Which Two Young Defenders Continue to Flash?

Aaron Rodgers Says Offense Made Mental Mistakes; HC Robert Saleh Not Concerned About O-Line

Jul 26, 2023 at 06:30 PM

Ethan Greenberg

Wednesday's practice was unlike the first five for the offense, according to QB Aaron Rodgers.

"I thought we had five practices where we improved and today was kind of a step back a little bit," Rodgers said. "Felt a little bit tired, I think, as a whole. Mentally made a lot of mistakes, so we have to clean some stuff up, but that's part of training camp."

Defensively, second-year S Tony Adams and rookie LB Zaire Barnes continued to flash.

Adams, who played in 11 games as a rookie last season, picked off Rodgers on a deep pass down the right sideline intended for WR Corey Davis. Adams patrolled center field before he broke to the boundary and kept his feet in bounds. The play, however, did not count because Rodgers got DT Al Woods to jump offside.

"The cat is coming out the bag a little bit, but Tony has an unbelievable mental makeup," HC Robert Saleh said. "Does everything we ask of him and his effort, strain communication, football IQ, all of it is pretty damn good. And he's competing. They're in a competition – him, Ashtyn [Davis], [Adrian] Amos."

Barnes, a sixth-round pick out of Western Michigan, picked off QB Tim Boyle.

"He's doing a really nice job," Saleh said. "He's part of that third linebacker competition. There's a lot of information, still a long way for him to go. … There's a lot of different things that can happen, but I think he's going to continue to get better. Really excited about who he is and his mental makeup. He's definitely someone who we think is going to be around in this league for a long time, too."

O-Line Chemistry
The Jets offensive line was decimated by injuries last season and started nine different combinations. In the early parts of camp, the group has been rotating at tackle -- Duane Brown remains on the active/physically unable to perform list. Max Mitchell took most of his snaps at right tackle and Billy Turner at left in the first five practices. They swapped Wednesday.

Neither Rodgers nor Saleh seemed concerned about having a rotation early in training camp. Saleh believes the unit, which surrendered 42 sacks last season, will improve because of Rodgers' processing speed.

"I won't say where, but I remember I was in place where we gave up like 50 sacks one year," Saleh said. "Then it was the same O-line and a new quarterback and it was like 25. The guy just gets rid of the ball and he's so smart.

"Eighteen years in, he knows exactly where the ball needs to go and how it needs to get there, so he can help a lot." Practice Gallery | Day 6 of Jets Training Camp in Photos

Jetcetera

Players who did not practice (and are not on PUP) include Mekhi Becton and Allen Lazard. John Franklin-Myers(groin) was pulled from practice and could miss a couple days. … Zach Wilson, who had another good practice, found Alex Erickson crossing the field for a chunk gain with Ashtyn Davis in coverage.

Jermaine Johnson, Bryce Huff and Connor McGovernwere impressive in the first OL/DL 1-on-1s of camp. … Jason Brownlee hauled in a lob from Wilson for a touchdown in the front of the end zone. Brownlee and Brandin Echols jostled for position waiting for the ball to come down until Brownlee used his body to create space to secure the catch. …TE Tyler Conklin was a big fixture for Rodgers in the move-the-ball period that simulated an end-of-half situation. The drive resulted in a field goal. … The defense won the competition period, which took place in the red zone, and the offense had to do up-downs as a result.

Jets’ offensive line excels and other key takeaways from Tuesday’s training camp practice

Jets’ offensive line excels and other key takeaways from Tuesday’s training camp practice

By Nick FariaPosted on July 25, 2023

FLORHAM PARK — Another day, another practice for the New York Jets at 1 Jets Drive. New York put on the pads for the first time in training camp Tuesday morning and the practice that followed was rich in competition and excitement.

As with any practice, New York had plenty of updates and highlights from key players.

Let’s get to it.

Offensive Line excels in the run game

It was easily the best day running the football for the Jets at camp. The interior of the offensive line moved defensive players effortlessly and continuously opened up holes for running backs to move through. Israel Abanikanda busted off a long touchdown run thanks to his offensive line, while other backs like Michael Carter had plenty of solid runs as well.

While the group still had some issues in pass protection, it should come as a comfort to know that this was easily one of the group’s better days. Alijah Vera-Tucker and Laken Tomlinson were both solid throughout.

Aaron Rodgers – Garrett Wilson connection

Tuesday wasn’t the best day for the Jets’ starting quarterback by Aaron Rodgers standards, but he still managed to make some incredible throws throughout practice.

To start, Rodgers threw a back shoulder bullet to Jeremy Ruckert that had the entire press room stunned. Ruckert appeared completely covered by CJ Mosley but Rodgers found a tight window and threaded the needle for a first-down gain.

Rodgers was a tad inaccurate though as practice wore on. The future Hall-of-Famer threw his first pick of camp on an overthrow to Ruckert and missed on three-straight deep passes. The quarterback ended strong though with a 35-yard touchdown to Garrett Wilson.

Head coach Robert Saleh continues to compare the Rodgers-Wilson chemistry to the old Rodgers-Adams one of the past and it’s for good reason. Both the quarterback and receiver are getting more and more comfortable with each other by the day.

Injury Updates

Duane Brown, CJ Uzomah, and Breece Hall were seen working off to the side to start practice but are still on the PUP list. While that isn’t a major update, the Jets later had an injury scare with free agent acquisition Allen Lazard who had to step away from team drills to deal with a muscle tightness issue according to Saleh.

The injury is not considered to be serious.

Left tackle Mekhi Becton also did not take part in team drills later on in practice, but Saleh confirmed that the former first-round pick was on a “pitch count” as he comes back from a knee injury that has cost him the last few seasons.

The Defensive Line continues to swarm

The defensive line may have been pushed around at times against the run, but they were up to their old bag of tricks when it came to rushing the passer. New York had Jermaine Johnson and John Franklin-Myers as the starting group but the combination of them, Carl Lawson, and Michael Clemons made life difficult for Gang Green’s tackles.

First-Team All-Pro Quinnen Williams also got in on the action with two straight dominant reps in team scrimmages. Williams blew up a screen and even recorded a “sack” the play before.

Whether it was against the starters or the second team, it was another ferocious day for the defensive line.

2023 Rookie Class continues to shine

It was a great day for the 2023 draft class for the Jets. We’ve already mentioned Abanikanda’s long run that turned heads but the rest of the class had their moments as well.

Will McDonald IV continues to dominate against the second team in team drills. Whether it was Becton or fellow rookie Carter Warren, McDonald has been a very promising prospect so far.

Joe Tippmann continues to learn at center while working with the backups, but Zaire Barnes made a couple of nice plays from the linebacker position as well. He’s currently behind Jamien Sherwood, but New York has to be pleased with how the young linebacker has looked so far.
