There was a QB in this draft, unknown, just a generic QB, who played big-time D1A college football, completed 71% of his passes in 2017, a higher percentage than any other D1A QB being considered in RD's 1 & 2, while simultaneously throwing more downfield passes than any other QB being seriously considered in D1A, and that his overall numbers were astounding; 4,627 Yards Passing in a college season, not a 17 Game NFL season, with 43 TD Passes compared to only 6 INT's. I repeat, astounding numbers across the board.

Then if I told you he essentially duplicated those numbers in 2016, slightly less, but only slight, thus proving that 2017 was not a fluke.

If you had no idea who that "Generic QB" was, you would probably say he sounds like a FQB waiting to happen, or someone we should at least seriously consider.

Well as I'm sure you have surmised, that guys name is BAKER MAYFIELD

I’m not going to automatically assume that Mayfield won’t become a quality QB in the NFL. With only a few exceptions around here, I don’t think anyone is.

But what a guy did in college doesn’t mean that’s anywhere close to happening in the NFL. The examples are endless. I’ll say it again: what he did in a spread offense (or RPO, if that’s what we’re calling it) is nothing compared to what he’ll see in the NFL. It’s not going to be that easy for him. It’s just not. Wide receivers aren’t going to be that open, and fast edge rushers are going to be harassing him much more.

That goes for all of these QB’s by the way. Even the ones who played more of a traditional QB “under center” pro style offense.

I could post the ridiculous numbers Case Keenum posted at Houston, but I won’t because he had more yards in each of his 3 seasons than Baker. He would have had four years of crazy numbers if he wouldn’t have been hurt his junior season.

If the Jets picked up Baker as an undrafted FA then I would be fine with it, but not with the 3rd pick. He is too risky, too douchey to be picked at #3.

By Thursday afternoon Ham will have repeated Mayfield's stats 97 times and increased each category that you'll think he's talking about Brady/Manning/Brees all rolled into one.

I obviously don't remember the stats nor do I care to look them up but they then asked the same question, doesn't this sound like a franchise QB that you would want on your team? And these were NFL stats, not college. The QB was Blake Bortles

Seriously, you're probably too young to remember, but trust me, Namath would have turned you into an NFL/Giants fan.

If you think Mayfield is cocky, Namath made him look like a lightweight in that department ... and that was BEFORE Namath won a Super Bowl.

Cover of magazines (Broadway Joe etc.), commercials, all of it ... took self promotion to a whole new level, cause Jets owner, Sonny Werblin, represented Hollywood stars and he insisted the Jets needed a star, not just a QB ... even Werblin's wife explained to Namath; "Joseph, this is entertainment and you're doing fine."

Yes I'm too young at almost 47. I just hate all millennials. I coach them daily and see their stupidity. I just wish he was a little more humble and a little taller. I don't have a problem with magazine covers, but he has done nothing outside of winning the Heisman. He has never won a playoff game in college. I think if he tones it down and loves being a Jet I can accept him. If not, I'm going to be rooting really hard for Teddy B.
