So clearly geno has the opportunity to be our number 1, it's his position to lose right now. And honestly, if he plays like he has the last 2 years, he is out of excuses.

So when he gets cut in week 3 like a sack of Tom Brady footballs, what teams do you guys think would be interested?

I don't think Geno is going anywhere this year. Even if he gets benched, he won't be cut, but IMO he either finishes the 2015-16 season cemented as the starting QB, to the point where we are no longer looking for a franchise QB because Geno established himself as THE GUY, or he will be off the team entirely next year, Petty will be starting, Fitzpatrick the likely veteran backup, and we'll draft another young QB to compete with Petty.

IOW's this is Geno's last chance, either he takes a giant leap in year three, or its his last year with the Jets.

oh goody....yet another geno thread... :hopelessness:
When you're the star qb of the Jets, people talk.
Would you like to add to the conversation? I'm just curious who everyone thinks would show interest.

To answer your question, plenty of teams will be interested in bringing him in as a backup, but if he fails with the Jets this year, with this defense and improved receiving corp, NO TEAM will be looking at him as a starter.

IMO this is not only his last chance with the Jets, its his last chance to be a starting QB in this league, period.

Nice insight green.
Obviously, every team passed on him in the 1st round, before having a tantrum followed by a pep talk by his agent.

Any coaches or gms out there who were hot on him? Maybe they blame the Jets for his lack of success.

well he's not getting cut. only geno-hating jets fans think he will be cut this year, let alone in week 3. even if you think he doesn't win the starting job, or stinks it up if he does, do you really think the team will go with fitz (coming off a broken leg), petty and simms?

now if you want to talk next year, that's a possibility. but the chances of geno being cut this year are like 10%. after week 3 is like 1%

so yes...oh goody...yet another chance to talk about how much you hate geno...blah blah blah

I think that could have been true two years ago when our WR core was arguably the worst in football, or even last year when we had a strong # 2 (Decker) miscast as a # 1, therefore no # 2, and a decent slot WR in Kerley, then a collection of projects and longshots. But if he fails this year with Marshall being a legit # 1, Decker in a much better suited # 2 role, a legit HR Hitter out of the slot in Devin Smith, Kerley working underneath from the slot, Amaro in his second year, what should be a pretty good complimentary running game, and what looks like a TOP 5 defense on paper, with a real chance to be the best defense in football, nobody is going to blame Jets management, this one is squarely on Geno and everybody knows it, he has all of the necessary pieces to thrive in year three, no excuses at all for failure.

Granted the O-line could be better, but you can't have everything exactly the way you want it, its very rare that a QB has an ideal situation from A to Z, most have to overcome a weakness somewhere and still WIN GAMES.

IMO he has more than enough to win with. Any decent NFL QB would win double-digit games with this team and against this weak schedule. Just go out there, extend some drives, make some big plays, and don't throw the games away.

I hope he can take a big leap in year three because the kid has tons of physical talent. Physically he has all of the tools to be a franchise QB in this league, and now he has the pieces too, he just has to go out there are DO IT.

I'm not ready to give up on the kid after two years and I want him to succeed, but now he has to DO IT.

He won't get cut during the season. He'll get cut at the end of this season. It's way too hard to find a QB that can catch up with what the team is doing during the season. For better or worse, Geno is a permanent cog of this team at least until the end of the season.

Yes but geno is last year's starter, and fitz is coming off a broken leg. So the team, in my mind, would need to see fitzs leg isn't hampering him on the field. And these guys actually believe in competition, so I believe fitz is their clear mindset, but geno is going into camp healthy, is much younger, and has to use this camp to show the staff he has something.

Also worth noting, the Fitzpatrick clip basically cut music, paused, and then you see him in the huddle in a Houston game. Then he starts yelling, "I'm going to put you on my back and lead us to victory, get on my back!" Not just a simple td clip like everyone else.
